Bruins sign Dom Moore to a one-year, $900K contract. Was a heck of a player at Harvard, and became a pretty nice scoring forward in his prime. He then lost his wife to cancer and came back after two years off and has been a fourth-line player for NYR the last few years. Will be interesting to see what he has left. Personally rooting for the guy.

He's a great story and I will root for him. But I hate the signing because they keep the retreads for too long and have young players for that spot. Gagne last year and to some extent Kempainen both cost the team. They could use the spot to see what they have in- Heinen, Cznarik, Kuraly, and even Ferlin at age 24 vs. Moore at 36.

I know we'll hear about camp competition but it feels like Moore will make the team no matter the competition. Ideally, this is preparing for a Spooner and D for better D type of trade.

He's a lefty face off specialist. The B's didn't have a reliable-at-the-dot lefty center until 5 minutes ago. Moore was 55.3% on draws last season. The Rangers have utilized that skill to the tune of a 77% d-zone start last year. All 3 of his NYR seasons he was fed 70%+ d-zone starts.

I get it but I still kind of don't. Is the plan to go Moore-Nash-Accari on the fourth line? The roster is basically full now with no empty spots for a young forward to emerge barring a trade.

I think Sweeney is going to try to move an existing forward and Dman + for a top 4 defenseman.

Sweeney has been trying for months with no luck. Given his track record, the lack of a trade may not be a bad thing. I don't know what to expect with Donny Boy, but this team appear to be it.

I hope this season goes well, but I'm not feeling very warm and fuzzy about its chances to do so. The defense remains a significant concern.

Agreed and the D will continue to be their Achilles heel as currently constituted.

Ugh, two days ago I was excited to know that practices had started.

Then you guys started talking again.

Please, just let me live in my fantasy land, where this season will be a lot of fun.

I'm still excited about the season, but more in the way I was excited about the season in 2008. Maybe they make the playoffs!! Maybe an individual wins an award!! I have lost any grandiose expectations for this team until the prospect pool develops.
