Does this mean no slaps? That's bullshit if it's part of the interpretation.
Who knows, right? I'm curious about that too. Woodley and Rumble both set up KOs with slaps to the side of the head, which were partially blocked but opened the middle. This are unlike what Jon Jones does which is just stand with fingers out as a way to keep distance. But they are open hand with fingers pointed forward. Maybe swinging is different from keeping them there? Side of the head isn't face/eyes? They'll probably give a direction the the refs, and the refs will have an adjustment period.

Dude ain't carrying me anywhere, ankle or no.

The fingers thing seems directed at the Jon Jones distance move you talk about, which really runs into problems when he feints with the open hand, or half-feints, half-strikes. Slaps to the side of the head, and even things like reaching for a Muay Thai clinch could fall into the broader interpretation that I believe is intended to be avoided by the mention of "face" and "eyes."

Cerrone at 170 is where he belongs. Listen to Joe Rogan's podcast with Cowboy. He's probably never gonna fight 155 again because the cuts are too hellacious on his body. He said he's gone a week without drinking water. THAT IS FUCKING CRAZY.

Anywho, I so want CM Punk to win.

anyone care to guess what time the punk fight would start (eastern). there's a show i want to see tomorrow from around 10-11:30, but i'm going to punt on it if it conflicts with the punk fight, which i think it will.

Okay, I'm already kind of drunk. And super marked out for CM Punk. Two more hours to the prelims. Let's see if I make it to Punk's fight.

@Curll - a couple hours since you posted and I think we need an update. Prelims on FS2 because of the football game going long over on FS1. I'm worried for Punk. I want him to win, but I'm sure its been a while since he's done anything athletically (and mentally) exhausting at 170. I will be very impressed if he (Punk) wins.

CB Dollaway fight off because of that weird elevator malfunction that caused Overeem to be late to the weigh-in and get fined $500. And since Lawler bailed from UFC 205, Cowboy went Cowboy:

As it turns out, I had less beer here than I thought. So, I've been sober for about two hours.

God, I'm boring.

Rogan and Goldberg throwing down the entrance theme gauntlet on Punk's debut.

They both came looking out good. Gall got made a star, gets a feud with Northcutt, and looked very good. Punk got his ass beat, as reasonably expected, but put over Gall and had a good message for the kiddies (UFC's Cena!).

And they both cut a good promo. They made a lot of money. White made a huge spectacle. I was entertained. I felt emotions. I'm happy. Back to real MMA.

Werdum looked great in the first round, won the second easily and then coasted in the third. Don't understand all the boos, Browne had nothing for Werdum, it made absolutely no sense for him to be over aggressive once it was clear he was able to best Travis in the stand up without much effort.

It's hilarious to see the contrast between this carny shit and the professional, legitimate sport image the UFC tries to project.
They really are not that different in the promotion of their events/stars.

People will be making fun of Punk; but the guy wanted to do something and he worked his ass off to try and do it to the best of his ability. I never thought he was going to be very good and the result was predictable, but he did something that took a lot of balls and determination; we shouldn't make fun of someone who does that.

He should not have been allowed to do it. Don't have a problem with him.

When Overeem was juiced to the max in Japan, he always told the media he got bigger eating horse meat

Hey man, the more MMA promotes its carny side, the better. That's why Pride, to me, was far and away more entertaining that the UFC. Just embrace the spectacle, the characters, the feuds and it's instantly more watchable.

Regarding Punk, I have nothing but respect for the work he put in. No ridicule coming from me, especially after his post fight remarks. Wasn't really familiar with him, but seems like a solid dude.

For someone with a dodgy chin, Overeem sure was sloppy defensively. Have no clue what the gameplan was there, he was just throwing wild haymakers and the time he connected he went for the guillotine instead of looking for the finish via ground and pound. Solid work by Stipe, but I don't think he has much of a shot against a fit Cain.

Overeem has finished guys with that guillotine back in the day but he should have used strikes, I agree

That's such a ridiculous oversimplification of everything. If he just wanted money he would have stuck with wrestling. Yeah, it takes courage to train for two years, recover from multiple surgeries (plus God knows how much wear and tear was already on his body) and get in the cage against a trained fighter when you know you are already going to be overmatched. When someone wants to do something and they work hard for years to achieve that goal they should be applauded, not ridiculed. It wasn't about winning and losing for Punk; it was about getting in the cage and trying his hardest and he did that.
