That really stinks. Span basically saved that no-no-no two times with spectacular catches. As a side note, Moore is going to be great in the NL West. Assuming his arm doesn't fall off from this outing, he will likely get another shot at a no hitter in the not too distant future.

Listening to Scully call the last few innings of this was a real treat
Absolutely loved Vin and was hoping for Matt as well! Was watching the Dodgers broadcast and saw a fan flipping the double bird to someone probably Hernandez for blowing his chance to see the no no. Quick cutaway after that.

Only 59 pitches through 5.1 innings. It's the 13th time he has no-hit a team through 5, most among active pitchers.

There's maybe the compulsory tough play that saves it, at least for now. Fowler in CF. actually several hard hit balls today too near fielders have kept it going for Jon.

It's actually his third start for LA in the six weeks since they got him and he has yet to give up a run, 18 scoreless innings.

He struck out the side in the sixth, 75 pitches. MLBN said they will show the seventh live.

I have the Dodgers broadcasts on my cable package. Charlie Stein and Orel Hersheiser doing the call. Vin Scully doesn't travel.

I don't recall an MLB pitcher getting pulled after throwing a perfect game through 7. And at only 88 (per ESPN Box Score) pitches. Up 5-0, so they don't exactly need runs. Wow.

Thats just so wrong

I hope he destroys the clubhouse

Maybe I can see a no hitter on a 1-0 game but a 5-0 perfecto?

Cmon

Roberts said there was "heat" on Hill's finger, a sign of the blister resurfacing.
Hill said there was nothing during the post game locker room interview. Let's see the fingers please! Someone is not telling the truth. To Hill's credit he handled the questions with all the right answers. "It is what it is and we're moving on to the next start" thing. You can tell he's still emotional about the missed opportunity.

The Rich Hill story is very interesting. Under any normal, sane circumstance, you'd never ever pull him. But if Roberts believed (rightly or wrongly) that Hill might be headed towards another blister, that could keep him out weeks maybe, then he had an obligation to pull him. I have no idea if Hill's finger showed "heat".

One thing about Hill. The guy went from kind of a journeyman to this indomitable force. In his three starts for the Dodgers, he's gone:

6.0 ip, 5 h, 0 r, 0 er, 0 bb, 3 k
6.0 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 0 er, 2 bb, 8 k
7.0 ip, 0 h, 0 r, 0 er, 0 bb, 9 k
21.0 ip, 6 h, 0 r, 0 er, 2 bb, 20 k

Ridiculous.

And it's really too bad for his injury issues. Because once he started pitching for the Red Sox in 2010, he's put up this line:

199.2 ip, 2.57 era, 2.59 fip, 160 era+, 1.15 whip, 10.9 k/9

Contrast that with his career line up to that point:

395.1 ip, 4.87 era, 4.66 fip, 95 era+, 1.36 whip, 8.1 k/9

So he went from not much to being this incredible pitcher. Would love to have seen him get the perfecto.
