Irving Fryar - what a classic in Pats history.

It's hard to beat the incident where he left a game (injured?) in the first half, got dressed and left the stadium while the game was still in progress, and crashed his car into a telephone pole on Route 1.

Another glorious story from the Keystone Patriots history circa 1960-2000.

My favorite is the new coach they hired and during his initial press conference, he almost died via electrocution when he grabbed the microphone.....................considering how his tenure went, he probably would have been better off..............

Being a fan of this team during the first 40 years of their existence was torture; the past 16 have been something else, talk about a 180................

They were shitty for at least as many years as they were good, but they allowed us New Englanders to "drop" other teams we had made our favorites because we had no local team. Well, there were teams like the Boston Yanks, before my time. A lot of my friends were Giants fans because they were TV'd into New England. I liked the Browns, largely because of Jim Brown, the most sensational running back in history, still. Within a few short years of 1960, it was all "Go Pats."

Through the 70s and at least part of the 80s, the Giants were on the CBS affiliate in the Boston area every Sunday. Having watched a lot of Giants games over the years as a result, they were the closest I ever had to a "second team" in any sport...until the Game that Shall Not Be Mentioned.

That and the title of this thread makes me gassy.

Or when he missed the AFC Championship Game because of a "kitchen accident." Turns our Mrs. Fryar stabbed him in his hand. Presumably the stabbing took place in the kitchen.

OK, random paranoid thought that just entered my brain.

If Brady were on IR or PUP, would he be eligible to serve his suspension? If the answer is no, and if Brady's injury is such that he actually could not play for several weeks (say, five weeks), what's to prevent the NFL from saying, hey, he's injured to the point he should be on IR, once he comes back from that injury, THEN he'll serve the suspension.

Or am I just completely imagining that this could happen?

They used to be the first team.

The Giants were religiously streamed into New England on CBS; one o'clock Sunday.

Especially when the Pats were in the AFL, they were regarded as junior varsity.

When the Giants (in)famously lost that playoff game to the Rams 31-3, it was like Christmas revisited because there was a ton of resentment over the Giant loyalty.

Beat? Maybe not....but tied? That same year Patriots running back Robert Weathers was playing video games at 2 AM when the battery in his game died. So naturally he went out driving in the rain to get a new battery at the 24 hour CVS.. While he was leaning over looking in his glove compartment for his radar detector because, as he put it "I drive pretty fast," he skidded on the wet road and crashed his car and screwed up his ankle.

I like to be optimistic and think this is a 6-week injury that would have kept Brady out until Cleveland and the suspension has ended up saving them a roster spot for weeks 1-4.

Regardless, you can only be PUP'd before training camp starts. If you don't start on PUP, you can't be added all of a sudden.

Flipper Anderson. 30 yards. Overtime. Tunnel. 19-13

The New York Football Giants have only lost one playoff game to the Rams, and it was infamous.

Rams lost to the 49ers the next week in the NFC Championship game 30-3. Maybe that is the game score that came to mind? The New York Football Giants are 5-0 in the NFCC, 2-0 at San Francisco.

They did lose to the 49ers in the 1993 divisional round 44-3. That was Phil Simms' and Lawrence Taylor's final game, but Michael Strahan's and Jessie Armstead's rookie year. The New York Football Giants wouldn't get back to the playoffs until Tiki's rookie year in 1997.

It's the last "Los Angeles" Rams playoff win, so I'm sure I'll get to see Flipper Anderson through the tunnel a couple more times before the London game.

Yup, the Giants were rammed down my throat when I was a kid every Sunday; what a treat watching Fran Tarkenton run for his life in Yankee Stadium on Sundays. I asked my Dad once "How come they never show the Patriots on TV?" and my he replied "Because they're in the AFL and nobody gives a shit about them."

There are still loads of Giants fans around here thanks to that POW brainwashing tactic from the 1960's.

Thanks for posting one of my all time favorite New York Football Giants playoff memories; do me a solid and post the botched field goal snap vs the 49er's to double the pleasure.

The two Patriots Super Bowl match ups; not so much.

Those two and the 1986 WS will haunt me till I kick the stick.

Without maybe the worst home run swing of all time, it doesn't. That's how I've been able to rationalize the 86 WS for 30 years.

Uuuge Giant following out here in The Berkshires... and we're still part of the Albany metro with it's 4 network affiliates updating us nightly on the doings in the NYS legislature...

Actually, I like this line of thinking better; without that home run, they don't even get to the World Series.

I thought for sure after the way they got there after the nut punches of 67, 72, 75 and 78, they were going to win it.

That said, the way it played out in 2004 was much, much sweeter.................

2-0 in NFC Championships in San Francisco. Wild card games...

Flipper Anderson, Trey Junkin, might as well mention Robert R. Handley and get the hat trick.

Right; 2-0 in the NFC Championship game in San Francisco; they won the first one when Roger Craig of all people fumbled late in the game and they won the second one because Ted Ginn Jr hurt his ankle the week before, so naturally the moron who takes his place fumbles not one but two punts that led to both Giants touchdowns.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

I grew up a Giants fan, for the reasons mentioned above (always on the NFC affiliate in western MA...plus...Dad). I remember this game well. They had a big lead. Shockey had a TD go through his hands in the first half, and Strahan talked shit to TO after he scored to cut the lead. I also remember watching the Flipper Anderson game as a 13-year-old and being devastated as he ran into the end zone and out through the tunnel.

There was also the playoff choke against the Vikings in 1997.

Which is why, when current Giant fans thump their chest in regards to 2007 and 2011, I just can't get behind it, because they were a clownshow from 1991-2007, with a brief respite to receive an ass-kicking by the 2000 Ravens. The proof is in the pudding. How many shitty seasons have the G-men had in between and around/after '07 and '11? As opposed to the Patriots, who just keep producing.

I will always believe that it was expectations and injuries (Stephen Neal, Logan Mankins, Gronk of course) rather than the quality of those NYG teams that beat the Patriots. They didn't win; we lost. I know that organization very well. The last legit team they had was 1990. If any NYG fan wants to come at me over that statement, I will match team knowledge with them any day of the week. I used to be a NYG SoSH-er. I know that org inside and out. They sucked for a decade and a half before Tyree.

Sorry for the thread derail. So...Brady's finger, huh?

"Just a silly accident." - GLA

“Yeah, I was just ready to go, had [my uniform] on. I was just trying to get something out of my shoe and the scissors slipped... I let out probably a pretty loud word I wouldn’t repeat in front of my kids. I couldn’t believe it. I just went and got checked out.

“It took a few days [to heal]. I wanted to go [play] and Coach [Bill Belichick] said it’s probably best, for what I was going to go out and do, if we just take it easy. So that’s what I ended up doing.”

Yeah, you're right.

Craig played for the 49ers for 8 years, had about 1,700 carries/about 7,000 rushing yards and he never fumbled one fucking time in his entire career.

Until that game.

Yes they were, started the season 11-1, then lost 3 of their last 4 to finish 12-4, still clinched the #1 seed, then they shit the bed vs the Iggles and were bounced from the playoffs.

Another one of my favorite Giants memories.

I've only seen this game after the fact, so I knew how it would play out.

Roger Craig fumbled on the first play of that drive, but the 49ers recovered. The fifth play of the drive, Erik Howard fought through a double team to knock the ball loose, and LT recovered it in mid-air. That is what I meant by Roger Craig not having a choice in holding on to the ball. Roger Craig had four carries in the five plays on that drive, and fumbled twice. The 49ers didn't recover the second one.
