My daughter decided she wanted to upgrade her laptop from Win8.1 to Win10 after all, at the last minute.
While it was installing, she got the blue screen of death, and now it won't even boot. It's the only 32-bit machine in the house, and everything else is Win10.
MS won't let me download a 32-bit ISO of Win8.1 or Win10 on any of the 64-bit machines. Now what?

You should be able to download the 8.1 ISO here if you have a keycode. This guide might also help.

Found the ISO, but can't seem to get the machine to boot from anywhere but the hard drive. There's no other option available in the UEFI.

Manufacturer and model # of the laptop?

If you go into the BIOS and switch from UEFI to Legacy, you might get the option to boot off of the DVD drive. This video might help.

Asus X205TA
There's no optical drive.
I only skimmed the linked video, because I'm getting ready for a trip, but at first glance it seems the UEFI in the video has much more available functionality than the one on this laptop.

OK, then did you create a bootable USB thumb drive for the install via the Microsoft site?

Argh. Got distracted since vacation and forgot about this thread.

Yes, I did try the bootable thumb drive, but couldn't get beyond the splash screen. I tried a bunch of other stuff, with no success.
I finally called ASUS customer support, we tried some things together, and the upshot is that I'm shipping it to them tomorrow. It appears that they're willing to treat it as a warranty repair, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks to all for the suggestions!

It's back and working fine. Still at Win 8.1, but she can live with that.
BTW, the ASUS customer support experience was surprisingly smooth. We tried some things on the phone, none worked, they gave me an RMA then and there, and it's back already in fine shape.
