I´m from Germany, I really have no idea about your newspapers. I read it in a german newsfeed and looked for the first english speaking link to pop up.

Maybe just go out and look it up yourself if those articles aren´t credible.

In case any of you fucksticks other than DLew* have a sense of humor, the "Roast Of..." threads in r/soccer have been pretty fun and the Liverpool roast is particularly hilarious.

Up tomorrow is ManCity & then ManU, so if you can't laugh at your own expense, you'll find lots to laugh about at theirs.

*Technically, the Arsenal roast was funnier but there's officially no sense of humor at all over there, just fucksticks.

You might want to read up more on Hillsborough, especially the S*n's headline a couple of days afterward.
The guy already admitted to making an honest mistake AND to not being a native English speaker. He explained why he posted that link, and helpfully posted several others. YMMV, but I find @Schnerres to be one of the best posters in this forum. He didn't post the link with malice aforethought, he was probably hoping there'd be a laugh about a sex tape.

Now, can we talk about your right back's sex scandal or am I now gonna suffer a lecture about how Hillsborough and everything connected to it is so super-important that we can't make jokes about Nathaniel Clyne's wanger?

Nobody ripped on him that bad, and I agree it was an honest mistake, but yes, most Liverpool supporters are going to react that way to any mention of that rag, and I think it's important to educate people why. I don't want one penny of ad revenue generated for them based on a click-through from this site or especially this thread. You can mock me or say I'm taking it way too seriously, but some things are more important than getting a laugh.

Now that I've said that, I still pretty much laugh at every mention of Aspas, since I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old.

I was afraid I'd have a spark of some positive feeling about Chelsea because of Conte. Nice to see Fabregas disavow me of that.

Saturday was the 4th time I've seen Liverpool play a friendly live. They wore red in the first 3, and lost them all (the 2 games against Roma at Fenway in 2012 and 2014 and the Chelsea game at the Rose Bowl last week). Saturday they wore the Oregon Ducks unis and won. I'll take it.

Kickoff against Milan was less than 48 hours ago, now they are playing Roma a couple thousand miles away.

Just get through this game with no injuries, please.

If anything, it's a scoreline that catches the eye.

Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona

Mane looked great, Origi was lively in the second half, Lovren was commanding at the back, everyone worked hard, and Grujic scored on a great header with practically the last touch of the game to finish a fun day at Wembley.

Watched this thrill-fest with one eye while also running daddy daycare, but what a match. It really exposed the good, the bad, and the ugly of this squad. First half, I was mortified by how discombobulated and uncomfortable the back four plus Henderson looked against Arsenal's pressing. So many long balls to nowhere and Mingolet clearances...just brutal.

Second half, Coutinho moved in central and all of a sudden, there was fluidity and real threat. The Arsenal defense was all twisted up trying to track Firmino, Lallana, Wijnaldum, and especially Mane weaving in and out while Coutinho demanded constant attention in the middle. Very exciting stuff. Of course, Countinho goes out grabbing his thigh, Can comes in, and we're back to the first half futility. Mingolet, in particular, looked bad down the stretch of this game getting beat near post and staying nailed to his line on Chambers' header.

If today's game is any indication, this is going to be a wild ride.

I agree on the wild ride but it looked to me like the Oxalde Chamberlain goal hit Lovren's foot or shin on the way through and changed direction when Mignolet had it originally covered. Anyway what a fun match to watch and 3 points to the Pool. :)

Yeah, as much as I want to blame Mignolet, Arsenal's second took a deflection off Lovren and he had no time to react.

Fair. I missed that and am predisposed to blame Mingolet.

I am concerned about over-reliance on Coutinho. And, uh...everything about today's defensive set up.

Looked ferocious today on offense (in the 2nd half), definitely had quality, on the free kick, crosses and finishing. I hope that keeps up.

Moreno really seemed a big liability defensively (more than I had noticed before, but I'm pretty casual as a fan and gave him huge benefit of the doubt.)

Not addressing the Moreno situation was one significant disappointment of the summer. At this point he's a winger that the team no longer needs. He plays his defensive duties like they're a nuisance in the way of pushing forward.

His header/slide tackle combination sums him up perfectly. Poor clearance, uses his pace to recover, then slides through recklessly tackling with the wrong foot. He could just as easily have given away the penalty there. He regrouped and gave it away stupidly a few minutes later. He's just not suited to play in the back.

Moreno has had the full heel turn in his Liverpool experience. He was lauded as a real savior when you guys brought him in. You're not wrong for slating him now, but he's one of those players who has had quite the change of narrative.

He had a couple of good goals early in his time with the team where he ran the length of the field and scored, reminiscent of John Arne Riise. The problem is that those became less frequent, and the defensive errors more frequent. At this point, other teams are focusing their attacks down that side, knowing he's going to make 3 or 4 major errors a game. It also pulls the rest of the back line out of position trying to cover for him.

He can still be useful against sides that are going to bunker in, but they need a better option to counter teams with skilled attackers out wide.

He showed a ton of promise, especially that solo run down the wing at Spurs with a perfect cross-goal finish to beat Lloris.

It's almost entirely gone downhill from there, however. With Jonas Hector and Ben Chilwell signing new deals at Köln and Leicester respectively, the options look pretty thin... I'm worried they'll end up splashing £10m on a JAG like Yuto Nagatomo and we'll be in the same place come next August.

While Liverpool got a great fee for Brad Smith (with a buyback clause), I would've liked to see him get a consistent run as LB.

Looks like Palace finally blinked and upped their bid for Benteke. 27 million GBP plus 5 million in add-ons. I don't know how reachable those add-ons are, but if they are met the team recoups nearly all the fee paid to Villa to get him.

It's also sounding like Klopp is urging Danny Ings to go out on loan. Seeing as how he's 4th choice striker it does make some sense. On the other hand Daniel Sturridge's injury history might give some pause to the idea one would think.

This is Anfield published a story saying that Benteke would have to play in 10% of the club's games. I'd think that'd be worse than letting him go for free. Getting more than the proverbial bucket (or bag) of balls seems like a win.

Is Sturridge even first-choice anymore? Even if he's the most talented striker on the team you're hesitant to build around him for consistency's sake. Klopp's plan against Arsenal seemed to be to swarm the box with as much attacking talent as possible. It leaves them horribly open to the counter, but that's another discussion... Is Sturridge even the guy for that type of close-quarters pinball? He does his best work with space, taking on defenders. That certainly wasn't the chosen route against the Gunners.

I certainly don't get the impression that DS is an automatic selection. The depth they now have means they can mix and match dependent on the opponent. Against a relative minnow like Burnley - who will presumably park the bus - DS may very well be the chosen guy. In fact both DS and Origi could start against Burnley in some kind of 4-1-3-2 formation. That being said I'm expecting something like:

Mignolet
Clyne - Lovren - Klaven - Moreno
Henderson - Can
Wijnaldum - Firmino - Coutinho
Sturridge/Origi

Subs:
Sturridge for Origi or vice versa
Milner for Moreno
Grujik for Henderson or Can

Who didn't see that coming? It's been an unfortunate pattern for years. Play a good game against a top team, then promptly fall flat on their face against a lesser opponent the following week.

That game was actually supposed to be at Anfield, but the home and away games were swapped to give the club additional time to finish work on the new Main Stand.

Going into an international break with the taste of shit in the mouth is becoming a staple of the supporter's diet.

Glad to get that kind of value back for him.

In other news, the whispers of Everbright, a state-owned Chinese conglomerate, putting in a bid for at least a partial stake in LFC are interesting to say the least. Some will say LFC need the cash injection, but the amount LFC has dropped in the transfer market the past 3-4 summers doesn't scream out for more money IMO. The wisdom of fees in the £25-30m range for guys like Wijnaldum is another discussion.

Of course, there are other elements such as deferment of payments etc that could be driving those fees up for FSG so it isn't quite apples to apples, but i haven't seen any cause for concern from a sheer investment standpoint.

I've quoted This is Anfield a few times around here but I've totally cut them out of my news feed. Their reaction the the defeat is totally over the top. Klopp shouldn't be free of criticism but you'd think he was Brenden Rodgers.

Facing a weak but organized side at their ground is always a difficult task. Clyne's early mistake exacerbated the situation and threw the game plan out the window. The Moreno situation is the baffling part. I wonder if the Milner experiment is over there.

Once some health returns to the back line and the game minutes rack up we'll see an improving defense. Mental lapses are the problem right now and they're difficult (though not impossible) to coach.

SkyNews with some more details. They suggest that this could be the sale of a limited stake to create a strategic partnership. Probably a good move to help better establish the club in the Chinese market. The deal would purportedly value the team at £700m, which is good return on the initial £300m purchase, but it's far below Forbes' recent valuation of about £1.15b. For sake of reference, back in December Man City sold 13% to China Media Capital at a roughly £2b valuation. There's got to be a lot more to the deal than what's leaking out at the moment.

Well, that was refreshingly easy.

Burton Albion 0-5 Liverpool

Origi and Firmino basically ended the contest in the first 22 minutes, then following an own goal an hour in, Sturridge came on and scored twice in 5 minutes.

Matip got the start at center back and played the full 90. Mane came back from injury and looked dangerous all game. Origi may have pulled a hamstring late, so not all the news is good.
