What do we think happens today for the B's, if anything? I'm trying to think of what FAs they might sign and am honestly coming up blank. Anyone that might be attractive they'd likely have to overpay for.

I don't think they'll do much. A second tier RW is my guess, and perhaps a Liles (or Liles equivalent) signing.

I haven't seen any smoke around the B's and Demers, but I suppose it is possible. It fills a need, but I feel like his contract will be crazy.

Sounds like Campbell is going to Chicago but I would love the Bs to sign him to a 1 year big money deal. They have the cap space and it wouldn't interfere with Marchand etc resignings

edit: Brian not Greg

Troy Brouwer is another B's type player that I'm scared of. Basically this year's Beleskey with his 8G playoff performance.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him get 4/20 in this market and wouldn't be surprised to see the B's giving him that contract.

Yeah if Dreger is to be believed on the Helm deal... this could be an ugly day.

Brouwer is heavily rumored to be Calgary-bound but that scares me as well.

Anyone else afraid of Matt Martin walking through that door for 4/12?
Not really. If Chiarelli were here I would be. I think Don is committed to the young guys in the bottom 6 forwards.

Is anyone here going to be happy with ANY of the UFA Defensemen?
I would take Demers for the right price. I don't think the right price will be in play today though.

I agree I just don't think he'll get that here. See above comment on Matt Martin.

Any idea what happened to Brandon Gormley? He was considered a steal when he was drafted a few years ago and just turned 24 in Feb. Not much experience but was productive in AHL. Not an ideal fit as a LH shot but can't see the downside in a signing if he comes cheap.

I would be on board with this. Unfortunately sounds like Chicago is a done deal, as you mentioned.

I'd pay Backes 3/20 if that would get it done. I haven't heard too many rumors about what he's asking for and/or teams. Then trade Krejci and a 1st for a D if he has any value.

Honestly if they sign Backes and Demers to just normal overpayments and nothing crazy and be done with, I am ok with that and think that's a good day. Then sign Vesey in August and figure out a trade for another Dman.

If they sign Backes, I'd like them to explore possible trades for a top 2 or 3 defenseman for Krejci. I feel there is a deal to be had there around him and Trouba. Winnipeg needs someone like Krejci, IMO, if he is healthy. Backes provides depth at Center, and is the type of guy they like anyways.

I think all of this is right. And I think that squad is an EC contender.

So here's where we stand with the initial rush over.

$10.2 million in cap space. Current lineup:

Marchand - Bergeron - Backes
Beleskey - Krejci - Pastrnak
Vatrano - Spooner - Hayes
Xxxx - Acciari - Xxxxx

Chara - McQuaid
Krug - Miller
Liles - XXXX

Rask
Khudobin

RFA's: Colin Miller, Joe Morrow, Brian Ferlin. They shouldn't cost much.

So $5-$6 million left to work with assuming nobody heads out.

Jimmy Murphy throwing shit at the wall saying an "unnamed NHL exec" sees the Bruins offering Krejci to Blues for Shattenkirk. I am not linking it, because fuck that guy. But, what the hell. I refuse to work right now, so I'm posting this.

Essentially trading Krejci for Backes, a D-man and 1.5 m isn't the worst thing. Doing the same for Eric Staal, a D and $4m (and possibly getting out of Staal's deal at age 34) would have been better.
