They can still renounce the RFA offers at any time, correct?
Yes.

you come to tell me that none of the 5 Celtics 2nd rounders could have landed Meeks? James Young + 2nd for Meeks?
why would they want him?
Nothing like filling up $6.6M in cap space for a mediocre backup SG coming off a season missed with a broken foot, especially when your team has no roster space and 8 million guards.

I'm torn on Barnes. The sixers are so far below the floor. He's young he can defend and he fits. I think he'll be massively overpaid role player if things go well, but the team doesn't get expensive for some time and of all the players they are being linked to he's probably the least shite.

I don't think he will sign but I'd rather live with a 24 years peak years even if that peak is lower than you'd want from a max.

Waiters. Fuck me no. And most of the others too.

Just sign a pg!
throw a max offer at any of the good rfa if you want. You're not getting them so eh.

Joakim Noah has a 12:01 meeting set Friday with the Knicks and is expected to sign a deal around $18M per year.

Even with all the hype of the expanding cap, I have incredibly underestimated what Silly Season will look like.

He is probably not signing the minute free agency starts for one year
Do we really think free agency starts at 12:01 tomorrow night? Or do we think agents and players and teams have been talking for the last 3 months? I know which one I think.

Players and agents have a strong sense of their market at this point. If that's the sort of deal Noah feels is the best fit for him, I can certainly see the appeal of signing for a lot of money with his hometown team, and being in a situation where he'll start.

Teams are all on plan A right now. Some players may have decided but most have not. Teams losing out on plan A will have a lot of money. More so this year than ever before. If Noah signs a one year deal for $18M tonight he's an idiot.

With another cap jump next season, and a better free agent class, there will be a lot of teams for whom Plan A is to overpay players on short-term deals to avoid longterm commitments.

I don't disagree with this. If you think Noah is signing a one year deal right away, that's great. I highly doubt it.

Yeah, that may be the team's plan, but I doubt Noah is going to go for that 1 minute into FA.

It'll be interesting to see which team identifies and capitalizes on a market inefficiency. Portland struck quickly to sign Aminu and Ed Davis on deals that were largely panned when they were signed, but are total steals one year later. Some GM is going to pounce early on off the radar guys.

Even with the crazy money, I think there are rotation guys or fringy starters out there that can be had for less than eight figures. Just a guess, but I think those guys will fall into one of four groups:

The intriguing, but flawed (Solomon Hill, Shane Larkin)
The recently injured or ineffective (Terrence Jones, Eric Gordon)
The serviceable but forgotten (DJ Augustin, Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries)
The out of favor bigs (Roy Hibbert, Timofey Mozgov, Al Jefferson)

The crazy AAV is fine on Noah and Bazemore because of the cap jump but I really wouldn't want to pay those guys three or four years from now in a flat cap environment. The smart teams are going to go short and reset expectations in 2018.

-Beal signing a five year max with Washington

-Lakers going hard after Mozgov

-Bazemore meeting with Rockets. Has offers in the $20 million range according to his agent

Mozgov to Lakers - 4 years/$65 million

I totally thought I was ready for this, but I'm not. I need to go lie down. The room is spinning.

Lowe just said that teams think it's going to take $20M a year to get Bazemore.
Good for him. We went to the same college (to which he was barely recruited) and I saw him when he was a freshman and could barely handle the ball. He went undrafted and worked at it. He's a good guy.

@ShamsCharania: Sources on @TheVertical: DeMar DeRozan, Toronto Raptors reach agreement on five-year, $139M-plus deal.
@WojVerticalNBA: Sources: Free agent guard Eric Gordon has emerged as Knicks' top perimeter target. Sides starting to discuss parameters of a possible deal.

It's funny because like none of these moves so far in any way matter in determining who might win the NBA title next year or the year after

Mozgov gets $16M AAV, Bazemore getting $20M? I'm not ready for this. Steph Curry might be the most underpaid athlete in US sports history next year.

That nylon calculus may want to scrap that model and start over. Their projections are roughly half what everyone has gotten so far. Didn't even have Mosgov or Noah on the tier 2 list.

23 NBA teams last year didn't reach what is this year's minimum salary level. Fellas gonna get paid.

So just reading that Hibbert in LA was the 76 out of 76 centers in RPM and 75th was Mozgov. So... upgrade?!
Okafor was 76th. Hibbert was 74th, Mozgov was 75th, and there was a pretty big gap between the two. So not even an upgrade, but at least Moz will have fun in LA!

Drummond re-sings with Detroit for 5/130

This is the best the Nets can do. Sign back-ups and fringy starters with the promise of an expanded role and hope for the best.

Crazy money out there. Seems like even marginal players are getting P-A-I-D. The Celtics are going to have to spend $$ on SOMEBODY.

The Lin contact is totally sensible. Percentage wise it's basically equivalent to the mid-level exception under the new environment.

Is there a betting pool for how many season-ending knee injuries the Knicks will have in one year?

And can I get in on it?
