Ball joins Moncada, Benintendi, and Dubon as Salem successes so far but Rafael Devers season long slump is concerning.
Sounds like box score scouting, as pretty much every scouting report is that he's hitting the ball well just at people. Look at his BABIP 0.209 vs 0.332 last year and 395, 366 in his previous stops.
LD% is 19.1 only concern is the spike in pop ups. Walks are up, strikeouts still a concern.

I've been concerned, too, since Devers has been one of my prospect binkies.

If I were to place a guess, it would be that the Sox are challenging Devers to move past see-ball-hit-ball and onto building a disciplined approach at the plate. Which is perfectly reasonable, except that Devers is also the third-youngest player in the Carolina League.

Now, that would be IMO a necessary step in his development as a power hitter, since his isoD was genuinely horrible last season. Without building a disciplined approach, the pitchers will eventually be good enough not to make mistakes he can punish, and he'd end up buying a ticket on the Wily Mo Pena train to Japan.

My guess is that if he were turned loose to just swing away, the numbers would readily improve. But that might be worse for him, in the long run.

This season the thing I'll be tracking for Devers is incremental improvement month-over-month.

Raudes 6ip, 3h, 8ks. I wonder when this guy starts getting some hype, but I guess his stuff isn't all that good.

Sinister Funkhouse #17
Andrew Benintendi and really that's about it.
I'm not going to argue vehemently (it is an offensive lineup that should be doing far better)... but the starting pitching has been more than adequate. Canderson is scheduled to see Justin Haley and his under 3.00 ERA on the mound.

the lesser Basabe going into the year, Alejandro is putting together quite a campaign so far. .299/.378/.457. He's showing power he hasn't shown before and has the better plate discipline of the two.
