Carson Smith's elbow was killed until it was dead and there were thread title complaints.

Zero chance Wright goes to the pen given his performance, and if he does, then at that point we have a whole new topic and a serious question about the decision-making process.

If Clay doesn't go DL, then Kelly heads to the pen. As a reminder though, these problems always tend to work themselves out in the end. Let us remember that under no circumstance can one have too much pitching, cash, hookers, or cocaine.
I agree with can't having too much pitching, but these issues don't always work themselves out. They usually do, but not always. The Sox are on the cusp of having six starters and I don't have a link, but heard on the radio that Dombrowski said Kelly is not heading to the pen. I am very skeptical that Clay is headed to the DL, and he doesn't seem suited to relieving. I think Wright should stay in the rotation, but if Kelly isn't heading to the pen then Wright might be the Sox choice as sending any of Price, Porcello or Rodriguez to the pen doesn't make much sense either.

Perhaps it is time for a threat title change -- either referencing CS's TJ surgery or to a reference about the state of the bullpen (isn't there a thread for that?)

As for the ERod situation, I wonder if they will slot in ERod right after Price which would keep Price on his regular rest and then give everyone else (including ERod) one extra day's rest. That give them an extra week to evaluate and make their decision.

I think that based on performance quality, Buch "deserves" the demotion to the pen, but Kelly probably makes more sense in terms of what he can offer from the pen.

Given that Erod's velocity is still down and Clay has historically turned a major corner in June, I'd expect Dombrowski to keep things as they are for another few starts, unless one of the two has a major breakthrough/collapse first.

One really should not discount keeping Eduardo in AAA. He has options and it is the easiest solution.
Good point, but that doesn't seem to be the Sox plan. Dombrowski quote: “His velocity is still solid, but it’s not as good as it’s been in the past. His changeup was outstanding yesterday. He had a good cutter. He’s very close to pitching at the big league level. We will have to sit down and discuss the situation over the next couple of days.”

Yeah, this is by far the easiest option. And probably the best one.

The Sox' prolific offense means even Clay Buchholz is usually keeping games within reach, and Kelly looked so good coming back off the DL that the Sox need to give him some more starts. Porcello and Price are obviously going nowhere. And Wright's knuckler has been a revelation -- it not only knocks other teams' offense out of games but now also his own catcher.

Rodriguez can continue to rehab his knee and build up his leg strength in AAA, so that he's ready to step in at 100% throttle, when the Sox really need him.

And they will, because pitching is always that way.

Edro's velocity is still down by 3-4 mph, even though he was able to get strikeouts. It's probably a good idea to see him get back closer to his old velocity before bringing him up.

There are 2 realities that we need to come to grips with:

1.) JBJ is not getting traded in 2016.

2.) Wright is not going back to the bullpen at this point in time. The team should be putting its best 5 starters out there; that includes Wright. That list does not include Buchholz.

"Very close...sit down and discuss" is still a long fly ball from ""doesn't seem to be the Sox plan."

Yeah, how did this become the "let's talk about the state of the rotation" thread? I don't know where to go to to make my case for giving Cuevas a spot start, nevermind the case to call up Kyle Martin to the pen.

Last night and Today would seem to indicate why losing Carson Smith is a BFD. Koji ain't getting any younger and Taz ain't getting any less overused in 2013-2015.
