I think having an extra week of rest slightly favors Atletico, both because they play a more intense style that requires more energy, and because they have the better coach who will benefit from more time to prepare.

Also this time hopefully Atletico won't be hampered by their star half-fit center forward limping off after ten minutes.
Simeone said just this in his interview yesterday. He said the team is well rested and in good physical condition as it prepares for the final three matches of the year. The implication was that, unlike the previous Champions League Final, this team is not banged up.

Godin is likely to rest this weekend, which is a wise move against bottom-dwelling Levante.

Does anyone know how to buy tickets to the Champions League final? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger and using my airline miles to go.

Edit: A few quick searches showed tickets for well over $1,000 a piece. I thought they'd be expensive, but, wow, I had no idea they'd go for this much. What gives?

I wanted to go last year and entered the lottery for tickets but wasn't selected. Tickets through brokers were upwards of $3000 each. The dropped a little as the event got closer, but not much. So, if anything, I would say that $1,000 is a bargain. The San Siro is a little bigger, so that may keep the prices a bit lower, but it's a very hard ticket to get.

Edit: By the way, the clubs do their draws very close to the date of the game, so that's another factor. Each club this year gets around 19,500 tickets. Real will make about 15,000 of these available to members. Once those tickets are drawn, I bet the market will become softer, because the teams recently played a final and I bet some members go to cash out instead of going to the game.

Many thanks, Denny. Really helpful information.

The countdown begins. We're just four days away.

Varane is out for Real Madrid, but he was not likely to start ahead of Ramos or Pepe. Nacho will be the back-up.

Simeone seems to be still trying to figure out if he wants to play Gimenez or Savic next to Godin at CB. My preference is Savic. I think Gimenez is a more talented defender and is a bit better as an offensive weapon on set-pieces, but I think Savic is less emotional and more level-headed. Gimenez is prone get too wound-up.

It's also likely that Simeone plays with Saul-Gabi-Augusto-Koke in the midfield, therefore trying to neutralize--and maybe overwhelm--Real Madrid in the center of the pitch. Carrasco is first off the bench, mostly to provide an offensive spark as needed. I can see Tiago, the solid defensive midfielder whose been out for about five months, as a sub if Simeone wants to continue to strengthen the midfield.

Fernando Torres probably views this match as the most important and exciting of his career. I imagine he wants nothing more than to win a title for Atletico, his childhood and lifelong club.

Some good early body checks by Atletico. Did they get mixed up and think they were showing up for the Stanley Cup final?

It's amazing to me how both teams have been playing against type the entire game. Real is content to sit back and defend for large periods while Atletico is playing the slow build up passing game.

Not a lot of secondary runs happening out there from the Real attacking players, they look tired as hell. Have to think a big Atletico counter is coming

If this soccer thing doesn't work out, there should be plenty of opportunities in Hollywood for Real Madrid players.

For poetic justice, Ramos has to miss.

edit: well, maybe he will when it comes around again, 13-all.

edit: man, this sporting day sucks. at this rate, USA will lost 6-0 tonight and will have 3 players injured.

That was the most anticlimactic shoot out I've ever seen. Everything down the left side for Oblak.
