taking the boys to see the Columbia Fireflies play the hometown Greensboro Grasshoppers this Friday. Anyone in particular I should keep an eye on? Love minor league ball, so it'll be fun regardless but thought I'd check in with those of you who follow prospects more closely than I do.

At least with Moncada, you can point to the strike outs to possibly keep him in Salem. Nintendo has 7 strikeouts in 107 PA (ab+bb, no hbp), and to date he has 31 strikeouts in 340 PA (no hbp) to go with 45 walks in his pro career. He should be up in Portland soon.

cuz wrote about the PawSox first month of the season at the .com

With one month gone in the International League season, the PawSox have split their first 24 games. Unsurprisingly, both their offense and pitching rank at about the median of the league. However, the performance of a minor league team is not just its wins and losses, but in how players progress and, in the case of AAA teams, how individuals have stepped up to help the major league team. So, what has gone right for the PawSox thus far and what needs further improvement?

We will attempt to figure out the com issues you are having.

We would prefer not to have duplication of effort... because that would be dumb.

Both Basabe's were supposed to be legit prospects, but as of to date, Alexander started to seperate himself and Alejandro was looking suspect. Alejandro is changing that so far this season.

Alejandro is hitting .296/.367/.451 and strikes out far less than his brother and walks more. Alexander is hitting .236/.277/.416. They are both only 19. If Alejandro also develops power like Alexander, he's probably going to be the better prospect. Something to keep an eye on.

Cuz's influence is definitely felt, glad this thread exists. That breakdown of all of affiliate box scores is nice to have!

Moncada and Benintendi really need to be in Portland. They are playing as men among boys, as they are in reality. The Cuban Major leagues are better than single -A, and the national collegiate player of the year also should be head and shoulders above that level. Time to find out what they've really got here.

Heres some game footage of Espinoza that someone posted at soxprospects. First time I've seen him pitch from the cf tv angle. Looks like they mostly have him using fb/ch but he throws a few good looking breaking balls too.

While not even close to being in the same class of prospect, I imagine Dubon will get promoted when those 2 do as well.

And as mind boggling as that is, tonight's Greenville starter turned 18 in January of this year.

Hits are starting to fall in pretty regularly for Devers now. Validating the on the scene reporting of one of our members last week about how hard Devers was hitting the ball.

Trey Ball, who is repeating A ball again, managed to last 6 innings and give up no runs despite only striking out 2 batters

So no HR for Moncada's first 21 games, and now three in 7. OPS up to .990; wRC+ up to 180. 12 XBH and 18 SB in 128 PA.

I think this kid might be pretty good.

Devers was 2/4 with his 3rd HR of the season. Now up to .184/.288/.350. 117 PA on the year, 15bb/19k. Last year, he had 24 walks in 493 PA (minus hbp as milb.com doesn't keep that information.) He was hitting .132 a week ago. Great ISOd and ISO numbers too. Everything keeping his numbers suppressed is batting average related.

Trey Ball, who is 1 year younger than the average high A pitcher, is putting up career best numbers in Hit/9, HR/9, BB/9, K/BB.

This game is fun.

Erod getting some work today. The original intent was to get him to Boston asap but since he's already in AAA, wouldn't this be a good time to leave him there a while to work on some things like more separation between the fastball and changeup, and a third pitch? We have a good number of starters if you include Kelly, Owens and Johnson so Erod is not desperately needed in Boston right now

Key seasons for Marrero, Coyle and Henry Ramos as they head toward offical "suspect" status. Marrero looked to be a valuable trade chip as a potential starting ML shortstop, but his slow start this year reduces his value. Coyle is talented but just can't seem to get out from under his high strikeout rate.

Kelly's on the DL and Owens got demoted after only lasting 3 innings in his last start. Maybe Johnson if they really want to give Eddie more time to get ready, but I think it's more likely they don't hold him back.

He'll be 22 in June, which isn't really young for the league if you are a real prospect. Plus he's pitched 10 innings. I'd like to see him pitch well enough to end up in Portland by the end of the year.

Feels like we've been chasing big bonus high school potential power bats for years with little to show for it, but Josh Ockimey is rolling along at .295/.446/.579 so far in Greenville with 6 bombs and a 1/1 bb/k ratio. Manageable 22% k rate after striking out in a 3rd of his NYPL plate appearances last season.
