Tragic stuff about Kevin Stevens. I knew the guy wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed when I sat next to him in 10-11th grade computer science at Silver Lake (he kinda struggled with BASIC), but he was a great hockey player (probably should be HoF) although after a blaze of glory he sure went out.
Say what you like about the privelege of being a professional athletes, but he got his FACE removed, set aside while they did reconstructive work on his skull, and then stitched it back on...that's some pretty extreme shit. If he was never quite the same after that, I sort of understand...
Still, I hope people can remember the guy who won two cups, was by all accounts very well liked by his team mates, represented the US at the Olympic Games in Calgary, and in the 1996 World Cup, rather then the whole East St Louis crack whore incident, and stuff like this above.
