You do know who Costa played for before Chelsea, right?
Yeah. Some players adapt their style to their team or location. Costa plays like the biggest shithead in top-level football everywhere he goes. Atleti is far harder to hate with him gone (and with Griezmann both being awesome and taking a thorough beating every game).

Dier's tackles were both within a few inches of getting the ball and while they were fouls - and one of them obviously carded - I didn't think they were dirty in the flow of play. I thought Kane's was more troubling, he hit the back of the leg kinda dangerously. I just read the whole progression - the majority of which was after the tying goal - as a sign of Spurs' desperation, and possibly their lack of discipline, not an intent to injure. But if you're saying the whole thing devolved into a shitshow because Clattenburg was too permissive (and got no help from his linesmen), you'll get no argument from me.

MOTD's compilation of Spurs' (careless/dirty/reckless/shameful/etc.) tackles. Lamela's late two-footed slide on Cesc on the touchline might be the worst of them:

Just came here to post that.

Spurs were pure filth today and Clattenberg enabled it. Chelsea aren't excused (never are), but a side should be both better prepared for their antics and not try to up the ante.

Ivanovic and Rose should have been booked off the bat. Expecting a warning to suffice was naïveté of the nth degree. Chelsea are a band of thugs at their best. Spurs have known hotheads as well, not the least of which is Rose. The FA has a lot to do retroactively with this game and it doesn't end with the two teams involved.

Watching it again, I don't think most of those challenges are really that bad. A lot of them are clear yellows but generally they aren't dangerous/likely to injure. Obviously Dembele's eye poke is different and he'll likely be suspended.

I think Pocch had the time too keyed up today. They were edgy from the start and with the adrenaline so high they ran out of gas after about 65 minutes -- they had nothing left for the closing stages. It's a young team and they need to learn how to handle the emotional intensity of a match like this. Closing out games is clearly the achilles heel of the team and something they need to work on when they become too tired to press effectively. The good news is that figuring out how to hold leads is generally a lot easier than figuring out how to get the leads in the first place.

I am really glad that MOTD didn't miss the chance to "think about the children". I really like casting Diego Costa's Chelsea as victims, my heart goes out to them.

I don't understand casting what Pochettino did in getting between Rose and Willian as wrong. A manager broke up a fight that was about to start, that happens all the time in American sports and is cast as noble or heroic by the coach. In this case, we see the media and observers here criticizing Poche for coming on the pitch rather than letting Rose and Willian, a key Spurs player and Chelsea's best player, get set sent off?

I'm here too...obviously fouls, shitty fouls given whats going on, but very few looked actually dangerous (the two footer on Cesc was the exception).
