Anyone else finding that the ads are substantially louder than the actual game? There's a Jose Altuve ad that keeps playing that makes me jump every time.

MLB At Bat finally stopped working on my first gen iPad. This despite their website saying it would work with version 6.4.1 running on iOS 5. Guess it's time to find a new device.
If your needs aren't great, you can get a refurbished iPad Air starting at $279 for the 16GB model. I'm guessing since you were using an original model that one from 2013 should be more than capable for you :) You can also get the iPad Air 2 refurbished for $339. Both of those should receive software updates for a good long time.

My budget doesn't allow for that much. Literally the only thing I use the iPad for is watching Sox games. It's unfortunate that the old app just stopped working. It's too bad MLB At Bat doesn't work on a Kindle Fire. That's more in my price range.

In that case, there might be an Android tablet out there that would meet your needs... maybe check eBay for a Nexus 9. You should be able to get one of those for well under $200 I'd imagine. In fact I have one I might be parting with soon, will send you a PM if you're interested.

I think I saw Lorenzo Cain's shitty house 900 times today. He really seems like a great dad.

I feel bad for his lovely wife. If that's the room she put so much work into, I'd hate to see the rooms she's not proud of.

Anybody else finding that it's impossible to turn closed captioning off? Happens to me both on the Mac app and on the iPad. I've tried turning it on and off, I've tried restarting, I've tried updating...

ETA: Looks like @finnVT had the same problem on the last page. So it's not just me. Anyone found a solution?

No closed captioning on my end and that's how I watch every commercial where Tony Gwynn's wife is boring across three or four different devices.

Shoot me a PM with a price. I'm in the market for something ASAP because I have to have something to watch.

Nope. In digging, though, I realized that mac app seems to just be some beta, developmental project thing that isn't an official release (in fact, I couldn't even find a way to re-download it). And since the problem seems to be specific to it, I'm not holding my breath on it getting fixed.

This sounds right. I tried the Mac MLB app last season and couldn't figure out how to get the CC to go away, even when turned off. I stopped using it and just used a browser to access MLB.tv.

Actually, I just tried it again on a couple different games, and it seems to be working-- toggling CC using the button on the on-screen-display seems to correctly turn them on/off. Not sure if they fixed it, or if it's just certain games, or any number of other factors.

I have a Fire Stick and a PS4. The problem is that I like to watch games while my wife watches tv or while I play PS4. The iPad was the perfect solution to this problem until now.

In case you don't mind the small screen, a good smartphone can work.

You can get an iPad 2 on eBay for about $120.

I have this on the Mac app but not the iPad. The Mac app is a beta though (and no longer supported, at that).

Hopefully they'll release a new Mac client at some point this season, because I'm not installing Flash.

Thanks to @donutgore I have a Nexus 9 on the way here. I'd considered an iPad 2, but it would probably stop working next year based on my experience.

The MLB at bat app now forces you to watch an ad before every single highlight even if you are a subscriber to MLB.tv.

What a terrible experience for premium users who support and use the product.

My feed skips a lot, way more than last year. Is there any way to lower the resolution settings?

Also, when I use PIP in the new player I can't seem to switch the big screen and the little screen, like for example during a commercial break. It's pretty annoying. Also, in PIP mode the sound seems to often get stuck in the little picture.

It works on my kindle fire. I just watched a few seconds of both a live game and an archived one.

Chrome has its own included version of Flash, so you can use Safari flashless for general browsing, and then open pages in Chrome when you require Flash.

I'm not sure if that suits your needs, but it's an option.

I do use Chrome for flash sites, but I try to minimize its use whenever possible. The HTML5 player app, even if its in beta, is preferable to me.

MLB.TV is conspiring against me. The Red Sox game keeps timing out with a "network connection" error. Every other game is fine. My internet is fine (52 Mbps up, 28 down, 10ms ping).

I've been having a lot of trouble tonight as well, both getting radio on my iphone, and later with the nesn feed on my roku. Seems especially to time out between innings, and sometimes comes back with crowd noise but no NESN audio, which is odd.

(I know, this isnt the Tech Bargains thread) Walmart lowered their price on new iPad Airs 16gb to $249:

I am watching mlb.tv on an ipad and I cannot get the video out of zoom mode where you cannot see the score in the upper left hand corner. Any ideas how I can do that?

I am unable to see the condensed games in the list of videos on my iPad. Also, the number of videos shown is always one less than the number in the red circle next to the "Videos" tab on the bottom. I've had a couple of go-arounds with MLB tech support, but so far they've just given me a bunch of useless suggestions (for example, "turn airplane mode on for a minute, then back off, and maybe it will reconnect with different routing"). So I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, or if the condensed games are appearing for other people. I can see the condensed games on my iPod Touch, though the app has a somewhat different layout on the iPod Touch.

So, when the MLB EI free preview ended, they SD broadcasts when away at my place, but the HD ones are still going strong.

So, that's cool.

Does this on game from the archive too. Fucking annoying.
It does this when you have an adblocker on. When mlbtv can't load the ad, it freaks out and restarts. I'm hoping the adblockers can work around this somehow eventually.

Download no script, allows only scripts needed to run the video.

CBS.com has full episode videos that will not load because they tell you their ads can't load, I get around it by only allowing CBS.com to load its own script, not advertisers.

Anyone else find the volume won't adjust? Anytime I want to raise or lower the volume I have to reload the page to do it. Changing it while the stream is going does nothing.

Samsumg Smart TV app user here and this service has been brutal so far this season. The feed will start to burp and buffer, the resolution takes a hit and the audio will go mute. It'll buffer and then start the process all over again. Do I need something else to stream this though? A Roku or a Firestick? Forcing someone to watch a laggy feed is probably in the CIA's interrogation toolkit.

I got a new router and my Samsung TV app is working better, but not perfect. I deleted it and downloaded it again and noticed the most recent app date was sometime in 2015. I'm gonna pull the plug on one of those you mentioned. I'm not watching all summer like this. Waiting to see the best way to stream it.

I recently scaled back my package with Verizon, because their fees were outrageous. Unfortunately, the channel lineup I have now sucks, and lacks NESN. I have ESPN, but MLB games (maybe just Red Sox?) get blacked out for some stupid reason.

I do however, have a MLB.TV subscription. I understand that I can get around the blackouts with a VPN, but I know very little about these.

Looking for suggestions/guidance on this, as well as if it'd be possible to play the games over my PS4 somehow, so I don't need to tie up my computer screen to watch the games.

For a PS4 I think you'd need a router that has VPN functionality as you won't have a software solution available on the PS4 system. A nice side benefit is that the router will handle VPN duties for all of your other connected devices so you wouldn't need to pay for a separate software solution for your tablets/computers/set top devices.

I leave it to others to suggest a specific router or VPN service. There is a thread:

VPNs are easy to set up. Follow the directions on the website, then change the IPs (the website will provide you these) of the devices you plan to stream from. You can do this with a PS4 if you manually set up the network connection.

I've noticed a bit of lagginess with MLB.tv over my PS4 (and a couple of times it's gotten caught in a loop and I've had to kill the app and restart,) no issues whatsoever over Roku.
