Stork analysis is interesting and infuriating.

lol at getting angry for the Pats not drafting freaking guards early or terming it negligent, seems like the kind of folks who would have "cap is crap" as part of their vocabulary. We don't have that many true fellowship of the miserable alums amongst sosh posters, but man, Im not sure if the handful on here are in for either a rude awakening in a few years or are just going to be happier about having more things to be miserable about.

So I've noticed a head bob, or head tilt is something that lineman are doing in hostile environments. Sometimes a guard will look back at the QB and tap the center to let him know when the QB is ready. Sometimes there will be a clear head tilt to one side like the center is looking over their shoulder. Usually it's done either with multiple "sets" when it comes to the guard tapping the center, or a different pace of head tilt to try and keep defenders honest.

What I do not know is, who dictates that? I can't recall which game it was, I want to say Seattle vs. Minnesota, where the Seahwaks LG was nearly standing up looking back at Wilson, then would quickly crouch down and tap the center, and then slowly stand up and turn around again to try and keep the defense off the snap. That seems like it's a clearly orchestrated thing between Wilson and the line to go on 1, 2, 3, etc. In the case of a head movement like Stork, it seems that Brady moves his feet when he's ready, and it's on Stork to change the pace at which he snaps the ball, whether that be with different pace, or hesitation. Is it DeGuglielmo's responsibility to alter the silent count, or would that be something that Brady and Stork would discuss?

I'm genuinely pissed about this silent count and head bob tell that Light has brought into focus. Such a simple thing to prepare for and have ready, something we've been doing for years, with the best QB in the business...and we fail to prepare for the contingency when we might need it? Unreal. When you contrast that versus the anniversary of the Butler interception and the amount of prep that went into that specific play, it boggles the mind. I can still hear Ernie Adams in the "Do Your Job" video, 'we try to be prepared for anything that might come up on a Sunday'. I'm going to spend the whole offseason mildly pissed off.
The silent count and the head bob remind me of another Adams comment in the "Do your Job" video;"Games are won or lost on the practice field"..................As I watched that shitshow unfold in Denver, I kept thinking Denver's defense is good, but they're not THIS good.

Pretty easy to harass Brady all game long and blow up play after play when you basically know the snap count and have it timed perfectly.

And yet despite all that, they were a missed PAT away from tying the game and forcing overtime.

What a huge missed opportunity by this team and this organization.

Kind of surprised that an organization that will obsess over every little detail in preparation missed this.

They're always the more prepared team, but they're not perfect. We've seen them make many coaching mistakes over the years, sometimes they overcome them and sometimes they don't. This time they didn't, it happens.

Mike Reiss - Filed to ESPN: With opening for o-line coach, Patriots in discussions with retired Dante Scarnecchia about a return to the coaching staff.

A very interesting development.

This would be massive, if true. Next year's team will probably go as far as the OL lets them.

Can't think of too many offseason moves they could make that would (hopefully) help more than that one

The timing of the "leak" and the return must be due to the upcoming draft. Besides getting Scar to coach the young OL up all of 2016, having him fully/officially involved in the draft would be tremendous.

Also, you gotta think this is a close-to-done deal, with the (seemingly) sudden dismissal of DeGuglielmo.

One person close to situation said discussions with Dante Scarnecchia far enough along to think there's a good chance he'll be back in 2016.
This is surprising but not stunning. He never truly left, right? Pretty sure the PFW guys flew out to Indy for the combine on the same plane as him last offseason, and he was heavily involved in scouting and working out guys -- basically an emeritus consultant.

I'd be surprised if he's willing to put up with months of pre-dawn workouts and marathon video sessions in the traditional coaching sense. Wouldn't surprise me if they have him return with a younger coach to shadow him and do that kind of grunt work (are Matt Light or Dan Connolly interested... Or even Steve Belichick?) and eventually take over.

This would be the best of all possible scenarios, grooming a successor while fulfilling the critical near-term needs.

I'm hoping Scar is one of these bored retirees just dying to get back to what he loved. I'm guessing he couldn't survive a week with the mall walkers and Tai Chi crowd.

Interesting that Scar approached the Pats

In a shocking development, Dante Scarnecchia has asked the Patriots about coming out of retirement to coach the O-line again, per source.

Scarnecchia has maintained a role as an advisor over the last two years, reporting to the facility once per week to help out the OL.

Awesome. Have a little more confidence in developing a non-first round pick and UDFAs with him here

I don't think you will see Matt Light walking through that door. Last week he was on WAAF, he stated basically that there was no way he could be a coach, he would be in a tree stand in the morning, not on the practice field.

The Patriots have been happy to learn of Scarnecchia's wishes to come out of retirement, and a deal is very likely, per source.
I wonder if this has been in the works since the loss against Denver. Great news indeed. He was probably the 2nd most important coach to this team in the Belichick era. Lots of history there. Good to hopefully have him return.

Has there ever been a more celebrated Offensive Line Coach in NFL history? The only long time o-line coach I can remember is Bobb McKittrick with the 49ers.

Granted, I'm sure some other great line coaches moved on to become coordinators and head coaches...but still. It says something about Scarnecchia's legacy.

Howard Mudd and Callahan come to mind.

Edit: Not saying Callahan is more celebrated. Just generally celebrated.

Alex Gibbs was very celebrated, he was the OL coach under Shanahan in Denver and pretty much wrote the book on the zone blocking scheme. His lineman were known for cutting defensive linemen at the knees and not talking to the press.

This is great news and terrific way to start the offseason. Obviously the biggest problem this season was the o-line and while this along does not solve the problem, it goes a long way.

Wondering if Chris Snee would want to make the move to Foxboro. He's been coaching HS O line in NJ after retirement from NFL. He has always preached loyalty and love for the Giants but maybe he's a little pissed off about them firing his father in law.

Dan Koppen is local, I believe he's coaching in RI, and he's already familiar with how we'd want to handle line play.

Scarnecchia is 67 YO, 68 next week according to Wikipedia. My father came out of retirement at about that age and worked until he was 77. Tom Moore, Colts, Cardinals and a bunch of other teams, is still working the white board and the sleds at 77. 60s are the new 50s. Go Scar, bootstrap that O-line, keep Tommy upright and get #5!

I think this is all good news but I do hope they have an assistant OL coach so we have a smooth succession plan in place in case Scar changes his mind again.

Excellent news.

If we're lucky Dante will push through the end of the Belichick run. Bill is 63, Dante 68.

I'm still a little scarred by the interior line breakdowns in the two super bowls that shall not be named. But the absolute mess this year at OL was shocking. Hopefully Scarnecchia will fix that.

They were playing through some major injuries, right? Mankins had two torn knee ligaments in the second one for sure. I think those were more due to just getting overmatched rather than a lack of preparation or planning. The former sucks but the latter is unacceptable.

If he asked back in, I see no reason Scar doesn't stick with this for at least the rest of the Brady era if not longer.

This is the NUTS!

Apparently it was not Scar's idea. Article in the Globe today where Scar talks about how it was a tough decision when they asked him to come back.

Stephen Neal tore his ACL in XLII and missed the second half as well as parts of the first.
