This game was decided when the refs refused to overturn an obvious missed catch. That call lead to 7 points, coupled with the penalty breakdown in the second half and I think the Panthers got screwed even with how many times they turned over the ball.

You know what?

I'm happy for the Broncos and for Manning. Not what I wanted to see, but that defense cranked it up big time, especially in the playoffs, and so they deserve it.

And yes, I'm also happy for Peyton Manning. He's not hogging the spotlight here and he's all but admitting the team carried him to this championship. If nothing else, this game showed me that the guy was humbled by his selfish pass-happy approach his whole career had previously been defined by, and he finally learned it was more important for his TEAM to win than for HIM to win. I'm not being sarcastic when I say you can tell that he learned a lot from TB12. He was humbled and he's basically admitting it and he won a championship.

What more can we ask for in this situation?

Congrats to the Broncos and good luck trying to keep any semblance of that roster together next year.

Jeff Howe: Aqib Talib is at the podium. Mid-question, looks at his wife, "You're looking gorgeous, baby. We're gonna get it in tonight."

It was just Denver's year. They played great defense all year and got break after break. That's a good combination, even without an offense.

The transformation from offensive juggernaut to defensive one in just a few years is amazing

That call lead to 7 points
I guess that will be the lore in the echo chamber. If by "led to" you merely mean "came before" that's fine, but it was second and ten at the 15 yard line after that play. What led to the TD was Newton holding the ball too long and a strip sack fumble recovery by the league's best defense.

Patriots had a chance to take those guys out of the running and just missed twice. I wish we got them once in Foxborough and maybe it's a different season, but the better team tonight won the game.

The strip sack TD does not happen if the refs over turn a clearly missed call. Without that there is no strip sack TD, it led to 7 points. How is this even a question?

I kinda feel like the rest of the NFL world must have felt last year - worst possible outcome.

Oh well, credit where credit is due. A bunch of folks on this board made a big deal about how Denver wasn't a team to be feared, but they kept it together while everyone around them (including the Pats, twice) blew up. Congrats to the Broncs and their fans, hope next year has a more righteous result

I know everyone on this board hates Denver, but I like seeing a defense dominate in today's NFL
It is the least painful Denver win imaginable. No one can even pretend it was about Manning. You have to respect the D. And Elway has done a very, very good job. He'll quickly turn this over to Os and move on from there.

Weird year. I don't think Denver clinched a playoff spot until week 17. Before then, their possibilities ranged from out of the playoffs to the 1 seed. Pittsburgh was a fumble away from beating them in the WC. The constant was the defense. Hat's off.

Luke Russert with some perspective:

Can't really be certain of Brady's #SuperBowl wins. Spygate? Deflategate? Plus last year was a total fluke. Peyton = real winner.
Luke Russert had a rich and famous father and the best school he could get into was Boston College.

I'm a pretty big Cam fan, but he had a pretty bad day beyond just the final score. Hope he can learn from this.

“@billromanowski: You will never last in the NFL with that attitude. The world doesn’t revolve around you, boy! #CamNewton”

I honestly didn't expect to come out of today having more respect (for a multitude of reasons) for Peyton than I do Cam.

Isn't he 26 now? He's not a kid anymore. Can't believe how much he's embarrassed himself over the last two or so hours.

This shouldn't surprise you. Cam has never grown up.

And fuck the Broncos.
