Unfortunately, that could end up being a season-ending injury (6 weeks min, assuming no complications (weight loss, loss of breath, etc)). Tyler Bunz had a similar injury two years ago, which did not require surgery.

Jeez, if only it had taken Gus a few more days to come back from his heart attack, this might have been avoided.

Scary stuff. Hope he recovers well.

I'm amazed more goalies don't wear the hanging neck guard. As a goalie myself no matter how often I think I'm squared up on a shot, those guys are trying to tip the low slap shots up. I probably take a tipped puck in the neck every week or two, i don't want to think how many pucks could have ridden up and caught me under my mask. It's never effected my ability to turn my head at all. I cringe each time I see Tukka come back across the crease and see how wide open his neck can be

So my buddy plays in a mens league up here in Maine. He is out to dinner in Portland with his family when his phone rings. Basically its the Bruins.....(via someone from the Pirates). They tell him to get his stuff and get to the Civic Center.
He gets there and ends up Sitting 2 periods as the Backup goalie for Providence.

I asked him why they called him and just didnt have a Healthy Scratch throw on some pads. I guess they were in such a hurry with Subban that when they sent him to the hospital they sent him in pads.....and they didnt have a 3rd (spare) set. So they needed someone with their own pads.

My buddy had a ball. Said they told him to sit in the Tunnel which kinda stunk...but that he had to turn down a little kid who asked him for an autograph ("hey there is a Bruin!") by telling him "Yea....you dont want my autograph on your new hat".

Also said the coach "dedicated the win" to him after the game "hey thanks Joe....without you we wouldnt've won" :)

Per Mark Divver, Subban will be out at least eight weeks after his surgery.

Just saw this, that's a really cool story. There's been a bunch of stories about emergency goalies suiting up over the past couple of years, they're the best.
