OOC schedule of UMass, Buffalo, UConn, Wagner. Good work, Bates! Funny thing is that we'll probably lose to at least 2 of them.

Just announced a home and home with Purdue in 2018 (at Purdue) and 2020 (at BC). IIRC, this is the first P5 team Bates has gotten on the schedule.

He scheduled tOSU for a home/home in the early 20s. They now have a P5 on their schedule for every year from 2017-2020 (ND and Purdue). They still have open dates for 2018-2020 but their FCS and MAC games are set (Richmond, Holy Cross, NIU and Ohio) as well as their ACC games and P5. Need a few mid majors. They should be getting home/homes with MWC programs and/or BYU.

Still it's less than exciting.

What a cupcake schedule and really awful for season ticket holders. If Addazio can't get this team into a bowl he should be fired.

I'm not sure why the majority of posters here seem to think that BC should model itself after Boise State or similar programs. More home games means more money; weaker opponents means a greater likelihood of making a bowl, or of doing something truly special if you happen to catch lightning in a bottle with an unusually good team coupled with a healthy dose of luck. I don't have data, but it seems to me that the majority of lower-end P5 programs follow basically the same approach as BC. (I don't consider a single game against a big-time opponent to be a fundamental departure from this strategy.)

Next season's schedule is favorable. The four non-conference opponents should be easy wins; only one is an FCS program. In the conference, Syracuse and Louisville are winnable home games, and they should have a fighting chance at Wake Forest too. There isn't a huge margin for error, but 6-6 and a bowl berth isn't out of the realm of possibility, even if the team is only modestly improved from this past season. That's not very exciting, but that kind of modest success for what will be a still-young team should help with Daz's recruiting efforts in 2017-18 and beyond.

What happened to the end of the year "rivalry" game with the 'Cuse? They are playing it in October? Begs the question as to what happened with Wake and their "rival"? I guess it doesn't make much difference anyway. The schedule is awful.

I'm mainly annoyed at paying $150 or whatever it is for season tickets and then being able to get them at significantly discounted prices on Groupon and the likes. Friday games also suck because trying to get to Chestnut Hill on Friday at 7 using public transportation, let alone if you're driving, is quite the pain in the ass.

And UMass and UConn are both FBS teams. Even though UMass doesn't have a conference home and is currently referred to on its Wikipedia page as the "UMass Penisbreathers football team", it is still FBS.

A 6-6 season against garbage teams will do nothing for this program. We need eyeballs and this schedule gives us no shot of it. Basically, they have 2 games to get noticed against Clemson and FSU where they'll probably lose by a combined 40 points.

Not commenting one way or the other about the schedule, but as a BC alum, I'd rather watch them play UConn and UMass than some pair of random MAC opponents.

I literally could not care either way. Neither team nor the MAC does anything to move the needle to make me actually want to watch the games as opposed to going to the tailgates to catch up with friends.

Had a great convo tonight with Dorien Bryant (aka "Piecharts" from EI/EO) as he's dating a guy in my program (yes, he's gay). Surprisingly thought Dana Bible was an offensive genius but held back very significantly by TOBy's style and was actually very forthcoming in his decision to decommit. Chalked it up to a degree of being an 18 year old and to TOBy having a two hour meeting where he showed his potential usage in pie charts. Would've loved to have him and Gunnell lined up together with Ice throwing but so is life. Still looks like he could he play if needed too.

So signing day came and went. BC signed 18 (maybe 19 guys). Class is Bottom of the ACC, near the bottom of P5. Somewhere in the 80s overall it would appear (final numbers still changing as not all LOI are in for some schools)

Daz apparently had one of his WWE type speeches where he talked about how the recruiting services are all wrong and this class is awesome.

The revenue sports are still winless in the ACC since March 2015. Ever to Excel!

Well, it looks like it was not just bad.....but awful. Only 2 P5 schools are ranked lower.....Kansas and Rutgers.

http://www.bcinterruption.com/boston-college-football-recruiting-class-2016/2016/2/3/10908712/national-signing-day-2016-analyzing-the-boston-college-class

.....and highlights from Daz's presser last night:

http://www.bcinterruption.com/boston-college-football-recruiting-class-2016/2016/2/4/10911356/boston-college-football-steve-addazios-national-signing-day-press

One observation....no recruits from CT? I thought he had a pipeline. The whole thing is disappointing as hell, but not surprising. It just is not a desirable place to play P5 football at this point.

And Rivals has Rutgers 6 spots ahead of BC in their ranking despite having 4 fewer recruits

Honestly I am shocked BCI gave them a C-. I don't know anyway you can justify giving more than a D, and it would be hard to argue with an F

It's BCI. They love BC too much to be sane. We've been rebuilding since Jags. Amazing we can't get a single OL recruit in that time.

Fitch gone. Albert gone.

Paul Pasqualoni (yes, that one) the DL coach, Rich Gunnell the WR coach, Ricky Brown recruiting coordination.

I will give Slaughter this - he killed the dead weight off that coaching staff. But he's basically blaming Fitch for the incompetence of the offense. We will see if they can complete a forward pass this season.

The biggest dead weight is the guy making all the decisions. But if we're going to suck, I like giving guys like Gunnell, Brown, Washington, etc. opportunities.

The schedule just got a huge upgrade in 2017......no Richmond. Instead, it's Central Michigan!!!!
The schedule now is:

HOME:
ND
FSU
Wake
Central Michigan
NC State
Va Tech

ROAD:
Northern Illinois
Syracuse
Louisville
Virginia
Clemson
UConn

At least there is no FCS opponent on it.

According to a Globe article coming out tomorrow BC passed on an opportunity to host UConn at Fenway this November. Also, BC paid Georgia Tech $900,000 to move their game this year to Dublin yet GT fans have bought more tickets to this point.

As a UConn / Sox fan, that would have been great. Did BC have a bad experience with playing ND at Fenway? Or do they not want to make a UConn game seem special at all by playing it at Fenway?

If I recall, the game at Fenway last year was originally supposed to be UConn vs. ND, right?

If there is a way to create a fun experience for its fans, BC will always choose Door #2.

Bates said their goal is to have 6 home games a year on campus and because the GT game is in Dublin they didn't want to play at Fenway. Why they'd pay GT $900k to play in another country when they could've saved that money plus the travel expenses by playing GT here is beyond me. Save the $900k plus travel expenses and move UConn game to Fenway and they'd have made money. Fenway has less seats but could've charged more per seat (which people would pay for) plus take advantage of having big donor gatherings in and around Fenway pregame. There's your 6 home games plus a "neutral" site game right there.

Pretty sure they agreed to Ireland way before UConn (June vs October per rudimentary Google). And if I'm paying money to watch shitty football I want 5 chances to tailgate with friends instead of 4 and a chance to pay too much to play in a game that will receive little to no fanfare outside the northeast. Bates sucks but this isn't on him. Well aside from his inability to schedule a P5 team for 4 or whatever years.

Put this on the '15 thread....

Can't say I disagree with this decision. Even a blind squirrel catches nut now and then.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...turn-fenway/lfkvEIyfdXxWFIDh1bsv5J/story.html

I think playing in Fenway is a once every 5 year event and it should be for a particular game with a particular opponent. It might be a decent venue for the UMass games or the Holy Cross exhibitions in a few years, or maybe a game against the service academies or some other "hook" opponent, but not against league opponents and I wouldn't move a home game against a team that will put fans in the stadium ( a UConn game will put 40K+ in Alumni solely because of the proximity of the schools and alumni bases). I also wouldn't make it an annual event. Much like the Winter Classic, if you allow the venue to host games too often, as BB King would say,...."The thrill is gone".

But what really is odd is that they (BC administration/athletics) is paying GT to go to Ireland? What was the rationale for this game in the first place?

Was the Spring game this weekend? Lost track on that. Any scouting reports? Haven't heard much news regarding on field developments.
I'll give you the brief overview: our OL still blows and our WRs still can't catch. QB play will obviously be better and defense will be solid.

Did I read this correctly.....6-2 was the score of the McGillis game? No TDs?? I guess the QB "upgrades" haven't done much. I can't believe what has happened to the offense in this program. Unreal.

I don't think it was as bad as the score indicated. I watched the first half and wades team moved the ball pretty good but couldn't score in the red zone. Seemed to be working on a few specific red zone plays.

Wade was the big surprise. He looked veery comfortable and made some nice plays. Defense looks to be very deep again.

Towles was up and down but his squads OL seemed to struggle more than the maroon.

Very positive to see the WRs catching the ball. Focus was on throwing today.

Despite the baseball like score, there were a lot of good things in the game, but since the teams were 'drafted' rather then # 1 O vs # 1 D, the players were all mixed. Wade looked light years better then he did prior to getting hurt vs FSU, and Towles, who I was already calling 'Towlie' like south park, had a gun. The D on both sides looked strong again, Made 2 fg's

I felt much better leaving then i did going in, how many more wins that equals I don't know

Nice article in the New Yorker this week about Bill Campbell, former Chairman of Intuit and mentor to the movers and shakers in Silicon Valley. What everyone probably knows is that "Coach" was the HC at Columbia from '74-79 (no winning seasons) but what is less known is that from 1968-73 he was an assistant at BC under then coach Joe Yukica.

Postscript: Bill Campbell, 1940-2016

We are now about 3 +/- weeks away from summer camp. Any updates on how the whole Ireland thing is turning out? Is it as big a disaster sales wise as most people anticipated? Looking at the schedule this year my annual fall trip back to Andover for meetings at HQ fall during the open week so I won't be seeing any live games this year. Thanks to Tune In radio and ESPN 3 I will get my BC football fix on my Ipad this year, unless I want to get up at 4:30AM here in California for the GT game or leave work at 3PM on a Friday to watch the Clemson game. It's been very quiet on this thread and other BC sites so I'm thinking most people have taken the approach I have this off season.....prove that you should get our support.

Hope they do well and you would think they should with this crap schedule. But bear in mind that the Dazzler has a $2.3M (or thereabouts) guaranteed contract through the 2020 season so the program is stuck with him through at least the 2018 season. They are not going to eat about $9M in dead money and go out and hire a new coach, pay him $2M+ over the same 4 year period. They are in a bad place financially. And don't think Dazzler and his agent didn't figure all this out and realize they were negotiating with a lightweight back in 2014.This is year 4, this is his team now, and the results are all on him. I'm not accepting the "we are a young group" crap anymore. There are 3 recruiting classes in the stable now. Time to step up.
