Had them on for no more than 2 minutes this afternoon and the trolling was unbelievable (MF: they get no credit for outspending everyone TM: he doesn't even want to be here, this won't work out). Click.

The Red Sox have ponies, they need horses!
This Red Sox organization is cheaping out on the season. It's obvious John Henry doesn't care, he has Liverpool and Rousch Racing and LeBron James!
The Red Sox front office just listens to Carmine. When there is a stud available, they never take care of them.
The Red Sox shouldn't trade their prospects (see Kimbrel, Craig discussion of:) they need to dip into free agency. It's only money, who cares?

Now that they sign David Price, the above is all reversed.

If you listen to Felger and Mazz, then you're a fucking dummy.

Listened for a few today, and was thrilled to hear Mazz scream his head off about no guiding philosophy in the front office. Let's just ignore that there is a new sheriff in town, and maybe this IS the new guiding philosophy. It's astounding how lazy they are.

I don't think their overall take is unreasonable; last year John Henry balked at paying Jon Lester and a year later they spend all this money on Price. At least when it comes to John Henry, I don't disagree with their take.

From the other side I do think its quite ridiculous how much they are killing Price before he's thrown a single pitch. The small amount I was able to listen to them today someone called them out for abandoning one of their commandments, you can't get in trouble for something you haven't done yet. And all they could do was admit it, they are completely ignoring it. The horses vs. ponies thing is another worthy criticism.

Here's the thing though, they balked at paying him the money last February. They wanted to sign him last December but the Cubs beat them to it.

And even if they didn't want to sign Lester, do you want them to keep doing something because they did it last year? By May it was obvious to everyone that the five number threes was a monumentally stupid idea. Do you think it's wise to double down on that stupidity (with a completely different GM) because Felger and fucking Mazz have a hard on for someone else's lack of consistency?

Are you kidding me? Those two idiots flip flop so much I'm surprised their last names aren't Wallenda. They're practically junior Ordways.

I'm glad that the Red Sox front office finally came to their senses and realized they a. needs an ace and b. are sitting in a mountain of cash. They got the first or second best pitcher/player in free agency. How is this not a win for them?

I absolutely hate the argument that because the Sox did one thing in 2014, and then took a different approach with a completely different player under completely different circumstances in 2015, they must be disorganized or poorly run. Bottom line: the Sox put a value on Lester, that was less than the value Theo and Cubs put on him. They put a different value on Price, a younger and significantly better pitcher at a time when the team has few long term contracts to worry about (aside perhaps from Sandoval's). And the Price signing happened after a season where some of the pitchers highly valued by the previous Director of Baseball Operations and previous GM did not pan out as well as everyone hoped. Seems like the move of a smart organization to me.

Felger and Mazz are just too dumb to go beyond verbal clickbait. It's really no more complicated than that.

Marshall Hook still has a big problem with David Ortiz. Thinks the Sox cannot win a World Series in 2016 with Ortiz on the team. About 30 minutes ago a caller absolutely ripped Hook apart for being ungrateful and it was some pretty great radio. The caller reminded me a little bit of Jerome from Manhattan.

Who was the other fella in studio with them discounting Ortiz' clutch performances?the voice was foreign to me but it sounded like he had a major Ortiz axe to grind too.

Edit - or was that hook and I'm an idiot?

Yes that other fella was Hook. Mazz was out so Murray was Mazz Ana Hook was Murray.

Normally I like Hook's passion if not always his takes. Yesterday it was ridiculous. Somehow having Ortiz on the team in 2016 blocks the development of Betts, Xander, and Bradley Jr. Or something.

Hook has had something against Ortiz for months. He was dismissive of him after he hit his 500th homer earlier this year. Like literally as Ortiz was rounding second, Hook was tweeting bullshit about how he was overrated or something.

I've paid zero attention to him since. It was an obvious Tangwayian cry for attention. "Look at me! I ain't no fanboy!"

Mazz is outraged that the team is 12-2 vs 13-1. He is so disappointed in the team for being only 12-2.

I listened to him a bit today, and while of course he was over the top the fact remakns if we beat one of the worst teams in the league, at home, we would be much better suited (resting Amendola, Gronk, Hightower etc) leading up to the playoffs.

He's a professional troll, but all Pats fans should be pissed at the Philly loss

Teams lose games they aren't supposed to every week in the NFL. The Patriots are generally above that, but when every single possible bounce goes against the team, it's tough to overcome. Shit happens, they're 12-2 and on the driver's seat for HFA, even with terrible injury luck. It's pointless to still be hung up on the Philly game.

I normally hate Adam Jones but he was doing a good job of attempting to keep Mazz in check, basically saying that it's too much to ask a team to go 15-1 which is what Mazz is asking.
Of course Mazz apparently believes that Philly returned the "mortar kick" for a TD as time expired because that's the only reason the Pats lost that game so

Deflategate aside, the show has been far more positive and unbiased this season with the Pats than they have been in previous years. They were very, very reasonable after the Denver game and frankly the team deserved the bashing after the Philly loss. Show has been a lot easier to listen to. This week shows Felger has a lot to do with that. As soon as he's away Mazz loses it, absolutely killing the team for daring to be 12-2, as if anything less than undefeated is unacceptable, which is how they typically treat the team.

Remember the good ol' days when they didn't do celebrity callers? When a Steve from Fall River would call (including under different names) and Felger would immediately hang up on him? Arguably the worst part of the show these days is them giving Carlton from Norwell free range to throw out unsubstantiated lies and other nonsense literally every. single. day.

I can't believe they give Carlton from Norwell any air time.

Although J Stew (I think it's him, it may be Murray) does a FANTASTIC impression where he makes Carlton sound very. very "feminine"

Wasn't on Felger and Mazz but Carlton from norwell called in to one of the shows today and he thinks Law will never get in because "pats are cheaters" mindset will be held against pats defensive players. One of the dumber hot takes I thinks he's ever had and that's saying something.

This week is going to be great, Felger talking about how now the Patriots have to play THE one team everyone should be afraid of in the Chiefs and how Denver as the #1 seed lucked out and gets a wounded Steelers team, even though he's been saying all along Pittsburg is THE one team everyone should be afraid of and in the background, Mazz will be beating the "You're absolutely right Mike, if they had beaten either the Eagles or the Dolphins like they should have, they wouldn't be in this position" drum.

YAWN; no thanks, I won't be tuning in.

Since I moved to the west coast in August, my consumption of the show is practically down to zero, but I did catch a tiny bit on Friday, just long enough to hear them question -- if not outright criticize -- Brad Stevens for missing Thursday's game to visit his former Butler player who had cancer. I know Felger sees conspiracies and ulterior motives in everything, but that one seemed a little much. I think sometimes these radio guys spend way too much time in their windowless, bunker-like studios and lose touch with the real world.

Anyway, the 25-year-old former player died today.

After being a religious listener since the station started, I think it's been about 2 plus months since I've listened to Felger and Mazz and about month since I stopped listening to Toucher and Rich and I can honestly say that I don't miss Sports Talk Radio. I'm much happier listening to Spotify then the same old contrived arguments or bits.

I haven't really listened to anything since August (just a few minutes here and there) and I actually enjoy sports way more. Do I really need to listen to Felger tell me that the Pats suck, even though they made it to the AFC Title Game again? Do I need Tony Mazz' opinion that signing David Price was a "huge mistake" and one that Boston will regret in five years? Nope and nope.

I haven't listened in a while, either. I'm out-of-market and typically download the podcast.

I will say, however, that selectively downloading some of their Radio Row interviews this week has been entertaining. Listening to them in 10-15 minute increments seems to cause less indigestion than a 4-hour marathon of Masserotti whining and Felger baiting.

I worked for CBS Sports like 20 years ago - first job out of college. In any case I have VERY few contacts left. But a friend in the industry told me that CBS NY Radio is thinking about Felger as a replacement for Francesa. I have no idea if there is any truth to it and I can't imagine he'd even take it unless they threw truckloads of cash at him. After all he's got a house in the suburbs, a summer home in Nantucket, a wife who works in the market and two kids in school. He seems pretty happy where he is right now. But after watching him sit down with David Portnoy on the Barstool bus, he did seem pretty envious of El Pres' wealth. Probably nothing, but thought it was interesting.

Easiest and most likely way to suddenly see Felger be extremely positive on the Pats, Belichick, Kraft, etc...? Put him in NY. Since that's the best way to troll the local fans. You'll see him as positive and drinking the kool aid on them as you've gotten from him since at least 2005.

In all seriousness, as annoying as he can be at times, I really hope this doesn't happen. Yes, he is a massive troll. But he is the most entertaining sports media personality in the market and it would be a big blow to see him go. Mazz in charge of that show? Ugh. Kill me.

I am so done with these pecker heads. I defended them for a long time. Not anymore. The Bruins are playing the Pens tonight, an important game, and they spend three hours and forty-five minutes talking about the Patriots and Red Sox. And they are doing there show from the Garden promo-ing the B's. Felgar made a point of chastising 'EEI for ignoring the Bruins. Yet, pays lip service to them. See ya fucking later. I won't go to WEEI, but I won't listen to these dinks anymore. Too bad.

Felger & Mazz keep pushing the upper limits of ratings supremacy year after year with their schtick. So many people by now have caught on to how they garner so much attention. It makes one wonder when the decline in ratings will begin. I remember someone on this same board mentioned that the biggest improvement to this show would be the elimination of Tony Massarotti. I'm patiently waiting for that day.

Love Tony being against the Brady signing with no details about what the contract really is. His answer, wait out his contract and start franchising him. What a dolt.
