ESPN Is Pathetic

Shocker, Young said that Brady was MVP on WEEI yesterday. Good to see he's a model of integrity and consistency.
To be fair, Steve was pretty noncommittal on who his actual pick was on-air (edit: on ESPN that is). He said that he could see both sides and why there was a debate, and kept avoiding taking a stand even when Levy prodded him, even though he did spend more time talking about Newton. It seemed like he knew Dilfer and Lewis were about to take polar opposite sides and didn't want to be lumped in with their collective lunacy. He also rolled his eyes at Lewis in the pregame when he said he'd take Rex Ryan over Belichick.

Also, when Lewis took the Bills for the game, I took Dilfer's "How are you 3-7?" as him saying, "No wonder you're 3-7, dipshit" He picks with his heart instead of his mind. It's a good thing for him that he was a helluva a football player. Because he's a terrible analyst and motivational speaker.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had not caught the pre-game show and was going on the description provided above regarding Young's MVP pick.

That said, I do think it's interesting that he was so definitive on the topic with WEEI and then so reticent on the national broadcast. Not the first time a TV or radio personality played his cards in accordance with the audience, I know....

That’s why ESPN has had an ombudsman -- now titled public editor -- since 2005.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but hadn't they been sans ombudsman for well over a year until hiring mr jets fan?

Edit: looks like it was almost exactly a year and not well over. Point stands.

ESPN cracks me up. Contrast these two headlines:

D-backs should get good value from Greinke

Red Sox sign David Price, but overpay to get their ace

Both were on espn.com's main page.

Compare:

Greinke, 32, 6 years, $34+ million a year, career era of 3.35, career k/9 of 8.1

Price, 30, 7 years, $31 million a year, career era of 3.09, career k/9 of 8.6

But Greinke's deal represents "good value" while Price's deal represents an "overpay", according to espn. Okayyyyyyyy....

Yeah, it's two different authors brainiac. They're allowed to have different opinions. In fact, some people might actually see the value of reading opposing opinions on topics.

The first is Keith Law, whose headline for his Price write up was "Red Sox get a true ace by paying for David Price"

The second is Dave Schoenfield, whose headline for his Greinke write up is "Zack Greinke lands with - surprise! - the Diamondbacks"

I won't bother getting to far into what the articles actually said, since you only seem to care how the headline was crafted by the site editor, but neither compares the two to each other. Suffice it to say, Schoenfield isn't exactly known for his hard hitting analysis, so I wouldn't get too worked up over this.

"We're getting out of the pop culture business," the senior ESPN source said.

Six weeks later...

Why would that have been posted here?

And on no number of thoughts is it worth posting once, let alone twice.

You just never though someone would dig up that picture of you and turn it into a meme.

I know the feeling. There's 1 picture of my brother and I from high school, rocking an inner tube back and forth in the pool making waves. Looks like we are violently fellating each other.

Well that's your opinion. I've seen many, MANY clever things posted here over the few years I've been lurking and given the title of this thread, thought it fit. Not only does it ring true, but IMO it's funny. I may be a rival fan but I appreciate a damn good baseball forum because I'm a baseball fan first and happen to appreciate a good source of baseball discussion. (The Bruins' HF Boards is another respected source due to the discussion & insights but I'm not a member there and will probably just be a lurker forever.) Sorry if I don't harbor the hostilities rival fans are "supposed to".

And to stay on thread topic, yeah, ESPN apparently continues to be pathetic ( as it was the last time I tuned in years ago) so that's why I assumed, and posted it.

What the fuck are you talking about? Your fandom has nothing to do with this. You posted a shitty unfunny picture that had nothing to do with ESPN being pathetic, and you were called on it. It was not informative, not clever, not funny, and didn't apply to the thread. Basically a complete whiff.

And to the bolded, that about destroys any shred of credibility you might have had.

I'd ask why that merits the responses he got, but I see that would be a waste of time ...

No I know. Half of the responses are making fun of his deflategate tweet (and his horrible taste in pizza) But a lot of them are calling him out on his paid tweet

And it's sports fans, they take things too seriously. Mort fucked up with his deflategate tweet but he doesn't deserve to still be chastised about it constantly. (Which is what I assume you mean by "responses he got)

He does until he takes ownership of it. (YMMV).

At least I know (hope?) Keith Law would tell dominos/ESPN to get lost if they wanted him to tweet something like this, given his food tweets

Wouldn't shock me at all if these guys aren't the ones tweeting these ads, that it is an intern or a bot in Bristol that is doing it for them.

If you look 95% of Schefters tweets are posted via Facebook. The dominos tweet was posted via iPhone client. I imagine a similar situation for mort.

Not going to link it but they have a story today about LeBron's concerns for Johnny Football.

Edit: ah didn't realize he was a client of LeBron's. Makes sense. I should RTFA all the way next time.
