Habs recall Dustin Tokkarski - lower body injury for Price. Will be interesting to see how they deal if he's out for awhile.

Another nasty play by Byfuglien. Of course Gallagher was already getting whistled before Byfuglien got him.

Looks like it is a broken collarbone. Same thing Kane had at the end of the last season, he was back in 7 weeks.

7 years, $4.25m confirmed.

That's a big commitment for a middle-6 forward. Luckily for them it's for less AAV than the Clowe deal but I have a hard time imagining someone would have matched that on the open market.

I already thought it was the case, but that kind of spells the end of Loui in Boston, doesn't it? He's only about 18 months older than Abdelkader and a far more effective player. I can see him getting a pretty large number in FA if that is the market.

Yeah, he was slim to return next year when the trade was made. He's likely getting $5M+ AAV in free agency this summer.

It's even better when you realize he has a full NTC until 2020, and a partial NTC thereafter.

I talked to a family friend of his, he said the Red Wings really wanted to get this one done. He's a homegrown kid (grew up in Muskegon, went to college at Michigan State, has never played organized hockey outside of Michigan), brings sandpaper to a lineup that hasn't had a lot of it since the Grind Line broke down, and they wanted to keep him out of Toronto (Babcock factor) and Philadelphia (asked for clarification there, never got it). Keep in mind, my guy's not part of the inner circle, so there could be a little bit of the telephone game being played, but that's what he told me.

Friedman says the Isles are trying to trade Travis Hamonic for some dumb reason.

Hmm. Hamonic is a 25 year old established top 4, right shot defenseman on a really good deal. Who needs one of those? Anyone? Donny? Bueller?

And on a team friendly contract for four more years. I doubt the Islanders want to trade him, sounds more like Hamonic wants out. Here is the link to the Elliotte Friedman article that started this...

The NHL has announced a "Bye Week" next season: link

The league and the NHLPA have committed to building a "five-day bye week" for each team into the schedule next season. The league will schedule one for each club between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28 next season. Players won’t have to report for practice until after 4 p.m. on the fifth day if they have a game on the sixth day, a source said. If the players don't have a game on the sixth day, they would have the entire fifth day off.

Since someone is going to ask: the Bruins already do have a 6 day break from Jan 27-Feb 2 this season, but they can still be required to practice/do team functions. The "bye week" would be a full no-hockey break

I take it this won't stretch the season out any longer then?
On the chatter I've seen on Twitter and the articles, it won't. It's just giving every team at least 4 1/2 total days completely off at some point during Jan/Feb

The war of words continues.

http://nesn.com/2015/11/alain-vigneault-fires-back-at-claude-julien-hes-needs-to-check-his-eyesight/

“The way Hank conducts himself on the ice, away from the rink, off the ice, the example that he sets … Who would you rather have as a son: Henrik or Brad Marchand?” Vigneault said Saturday, per CBSSports.com. “I mean, for him to say things like that about Hank, it’s totally wrong, and probably Claude is getting a little older and needs to check his eyesight.”

From what I've seen, they're semi-friends, and they're in on the over-the-top rhetoric.

Either that or AV has less fortitude than my 15 year old sister in law.

My guess is that they're actually good friends and this is all one big tongue in cheek joke having fun.

Or not. Who knows. It's hilarious and entertaining though.

Vigneault and Julien both played together on the Salt Lake Golden Eagles back in the early 80's. They supposedly are friends.

I think the "Claude's getting old' is tongue in cheek. Lundqvist isn't the first goalie that Claude has called out too, so I don't think AV is really that worked up over it.The Marchand stuff is totally 2011 sour grapes though. Vigneault's still not over it.

2 Things:
Interesting piece on Holliston, MA native, and Habs Backup Mike Condon by Fluto here
Interesting second fact from the article: Every NHL player's contract includes a clause that their parents get flown to their first game/get tickets.
