He's such a coward. He's totally dodging the Pats, and I'd be hard pressed to have anyone try to convince me otherwise. If he wanted to start, he'd absolutely be starting.

But maybe I'm just pissed because I just moved about a mile from the stadium here in Denver and was excited to see my first live Brady vs. Manning game.

I think you're just pissed.

It's possible that if Manning pitched a fit they would let him start. I mean it's theoretically possible.

But I think the far more likely answer is the Kubiak is going with the QB who gives him a better chance to win, and that Manning is anything but OK with it or admits that he should not start until he is healthier.

Kubiak's comments after the game yesterday about Osweiler were consistent with wanting to give his back-up another look. He did not commit but after hearing the tone of his voice and some of the things he said about how Brock performed, and given how pathetic Manning was against the Chiefs and in most games other than the win over the Packers, I would have been very surprised if Manning could have forced himself back into the line-up next week short of using a firearm. And I don't mean his throwing arm.

"Someone close to Manning" put word out during Sunday Night Football via Florio that Manning will play in 2016 whether it's with Denver or somebody else.
As major question remain regarding whetherPeyton Manning will play again in 2015, a separate question has emerged regarding whether he will play in 2016.

As reported on Sunday night’s edition of NBC’sFootball Night in America, Peyton currently intends to play next season, even if he’s not playing for the Broncos. And as a separate source told PFT on Monday, Manning has told teammates that he wants to play next year.

Apparently he's in NC today getting a second opinion on the plantar fasciitis from a specialist.

That opinion will likely be what they use to decide if he stays on the roster with an eye toward a 2015 return or goes on the IR.

Seriously. Wasn't j-Man predicting 9-7 like 48 hours ago? Usual caveats, any given Sunday, etc, but I highly doubt the AFC West is shook seeing Brock hang 17 on the fucking Bears for fucks sake.
i was assing manning wouild force his way to start and i was assuing a bear win as well

Houston makes a lot of sense. Southern team, gets two shots a year at the Colts. They don't really have a decent starter at QB. The defense isn't great, but it's at least middle of the pack and the running game with Foster could be good, but I think Peyton's ego wouldn't want it to be that good anyway.
not if O'Brien is still the coach Manning wouild look worse in a O'Brien off and O'brien wants to contal every play call

I wholeheartedly endorse the Willie Mays as a Met/Joe Namath as a Ram portion of Manning's career. Here's to hoping he plays 8 home games in East Rutherford next year.

It makes you wonder if he would have played last week if he'd already broken the record.

Yeah, I could see that being an issue, but it's not like O'Brien is turning out to be a coaching savior or anything. He's easily disposable if Manning wants it.

archie does not want peyton in the nfc archie does not want a manning bowl but once every 4 years or super bowl
Let's say this is true and has any influence on Peyton's decision - the Rams don't play the Giants in the 2016 regular season unless they both finish at the same position in their divisions this year, which probably means the Giants need to finish third. Not sure I see this happening with the way the other NFC East teams are playing.

Archie isn't deciding what is the best fit for Peyton at this point. It is going to come down to who wants to take his carcass. Peyton or Archie aren't dictating anything.

Careful what you wish for. Mays put up a 145 OPS+ in his 1st year with the Mets. He only played about half a season though, so maybe the comp isn't too bad after all.

Let's try a Manning checklist, from Peyton's perspective, in order of priority:

1. Opportunity to start
2. Offensive scheme - lots of spread, at least half of snaps from the shotgun
3. Offensive personnel - solid offensive line, receivers who can win physical matchups to catch his ducks
4. Cap room to pay Manning the money he wants. I think he has a Kobe Bryant like need to be paid more than QB's he views as inferior talents.
5. Coach that will allow him scheme input and cover for him in the press
6. Warm weather
7. AFC preferable
8. Good shot at winning

Places that give him priority 1:

- Houston
- Rams
- Jets

Places where he makes sense as a highly paid back up to a young QB:

- Oakland (I would like myself on fire if this happened, but the scheme, coaching staff, $ and location match up nicely)
- Miami
- Tennessee

The top two teams have Chip Kelley disciple O Coordinators, the bottom two would allow Manning to influence the coaching search

Wild Card
- Saints if they move on from Payton and Brees and draft a young QB. Manning would be the perfect transition agent to start for a year in his hometown while they are trying to break in Paxton Lynch or Jared Goff. I might have dismissed it earlier in this thread, but if New Orleans wants to go total rebuild, a Manning for Brees trade kind of makes sense. On a trade, Brees will have a $19M cap number next year and would look great in Kubiak's system. The Saints would save $20M against the cap (with $10M in dead $), so they could pay Manning $10M or so and still come out way ahead. He would sell tickets in NOLA and be a perfect mentor to a young, high draft pick QB.

I'm not sure Peyton is interested in being anybody's mentor. It certainly doesn't seem that way with Osweiler right now. My guess is still that he retires after this season. But if he comes back, the Texans or Rams make the most sense to me given the other criteria you listed.

Broncos announced QB Peyton Manning expected to miss at least the next two weeks.
They say he now needs to be in a walking boot for a week. But they didn't know this a week ago? I'd be interested to hear DRS's take on that.

I think his foot is genuinely hurt but it's the type of thing some guys play through and is being used as an excuse to manage the situation from a PR perspective - they want to bench him and take an extended look at Osweiler but nobody wants to admit it.

The cast is actually not wrapped around his foot. It's wrapped around his ego.

Watching you turn on Denver quarterbacks when you're tired of them is fascinating.

(note: I just made a Tebow joke in V&N, so it's on my mind)

I'm not really all that anti-Manning, but I do like a good joke.

That said, I want wins. Manning was making that harder and harder to accomplish.

The best may be yet to come. If Brock plays well enough, you may have seen the end of Peyton. Then you'll have the Ron Borges like "traitor" song sheet. Heads will explode at the four-letter.

Vegas is trying to get more money bet on Denver after heavy action favored NE early, most likely.
Showing my ignorance here, but wouldn't that be the other way around? If a whole bunch of people are betting on the Pats to win by 5, wouldn't a whole bunch more bet on them to win by 3?

EDIT: unless you are responding to DrewDawg's report of the movement from -3 to -5.

My initial post had it backwards--it moved from Pats -5 to Pats -3 since yesterday. That means either something happened such as an injury, which I didn't see (in fact, from yesterday to today, it seems the injury news got slightly better for NE), or a bunch of money came in on Denver. Now, is that early public money or was it the sharps?
