RedSox04

Diehard Red Sox fan since 1980 who was "tainted" by the 1986 World Series and spent my college and immediate post-college years feeling the Sox would never win the World Series, while wishing the Sox would have a front office that actually used sabermetrics and scouting to build a team that could humiliate and beat the hated Yankees. When Theo Epstein got involved, I finally had real hope, but I still felt in the end, no matter what, the Yankees would always beat the Sox when it mattered, and in 2003, I still felt that strongly, and unfortunately I was right again. In 2004, it was more of the same even though I could rationalize that if the Sox kept facing the Yankees, sooner or later, like the old Brooklyn Dodgers, the Sox would finally beat the Yankees or have their own 1955. I just didn't think that 2004 would be that year, but it was. I just had to say good-bye to that team even if I couldn't stomach the sight of the Yankees celebrating at Fenway after Game 4, but then Millar/Roberts/Mueller happened, and history changed forever!!

Even with my fantasy-come-to-life season of 2004, I still felt that was a wonderful one-time only/fluke dream, and in 2007, I was convinced we were seeing 1978 come true to life. Instead of Bucky Dent, we got a 2nd convincing World Championship. Now, my Sox belief systems have been shaken to the core. I understand, because we are blessed to have a well-run franchise (Thanks John Henry, Theo, and Tito), the Sox can win during any given year, if we have the breaks. I now believe we'll see more Championships over the next decade - at least I think that CAN happen. That's a huge departure from my 30 years of experience and I love it! Go Sox!!
