    SS possibilities going forward

Hamilton was not been seen as a legitimate SS option by anyone until there was literally no one else (which sort of begs the question why not Rafaella). He doesn’t have the arm strength or defensive instincts to compensate for the speed the MLB game. He’s miscast at a premium defensive position...

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

That depends - the fact that he also has a guaranteed contract means the Sox can subsidize it; although that means they’d have to spend at least it’s permissible in a way you can’t n a 1 year arb deal. If he doesn’t hit (and I’m fairly skeptical) then it definitely gets harder to move him.

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

… this deal also provides cost certainty, say for a small market team, if they wind up trading him to make room for Anthony/ Bleis or someone else in a few years.

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

The answer to all these questions is "money." It won't work for every player, but there are quite a few who will take the risk (and bet on themselves) for a better pay day. You know, if the team actually offers it to them.

Nick Pivetta to the 15-Day IL retroactive to April 6, with a right elbow flexor strain. (Bernardino called up)

I'll give the criticism of ownership's unreasonable spending limits a rest when the plan as presented shows itself to have worked out, or when you stop popping off on anyone who happens to hold an opinion contrary to ownership's desire to increase their profit line at the expense of the team's...

… whereas I’m looking at the Sox payroll and the idiocy of the offseason and am stuck on rage.

    SS possibilities going forward

I’d rather move Rafaella to SS, where he played the majority of his pro games as a + defensive SS, and switch O’Neil or Duran, who have played credible (if not fantastic ) CF in the past. It also gets Abreu more playing time, which I’d think the “you have to play the young guys to see what we’ve...

Everybody hurts sometimes: The latest injuries

Saying it wasn’t a priority makes it sound like something they were going to do, they just ran out of time while they were taking care of everything else. They had time to sort out a RHH back up to 1B/3B, and it looks like they just went with the cheapest option in keeping Dalbec. Except that...

    Who Should The Sox Extend?

The point of the PPI ROY picks is to encourage teams not to waste player potential with service time shenanigans. I guess If a player has signed an extension before playing in the majors, the team no longer has any reason to mess with their service clock as the player is being paid either way.

    Who Should The Sox Extend?

I would also explore an extension for Pivetta. They’ll need innings next year, too.

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

This article doesn’t mention the Sox at all, so how is it relevant? In fact it notes that the Yankees never made an official offer as the sides couldn’t come together on a framework. As @HfxBob notes, the the Yankees were looking at avoid the CBT/ Cohen tax, so it is interesting how that’s...

    2024 Greenville Drive (High-A)

Thanks, that’s disappointing- I was hoping to catch them in Brooklyn, and they were here last year.

    2024 Greenville Drive (High-A)

Annoyingly, it looks like a he Drive won’t play the Cyclones this year? Is there some sort of division split in the SAL?

    Jordan Montgomery signs with Arizona

No, if his medicals look really bad it would explain why his contract looks so limited and requires him to throw 2 months of starts to even get the extra year pillow option, and why this looks to be about as good as he could do. It’s a hypothesis. JWH and the Sox could afford this contract, or...
