I haven't posted in here in a while, but I ran my 2nd Half-Marathon on April 9, 2011, and was 7 minutes faster than my first half-marathon in 2007. I chalk this up to old man power. Of course, old man came in 377th place out of 512 finishers, but the good news is that the run did not kill me...

I used the gels when I started reaching some longer distances leading up to a half-marathon, based on the advice of someone in my office. I think they helped. I don't think you'll suddenly feel like SuperDude after eating them, but they helped me. I definitely used them on the 1/2 marathon...

Jesus, those are fast times. If you're running more than 5 miles or so at sub-9:00 Grampers here considers that pretty fast. Bleacher, I would describe a last mile (out of seven) of 5:38 as Godlike. I can't drive my car that fast.

I think Higden's marathon training guide is posted earlier in the thread, but it's worth looking at. It's also a mark of coolness if you refer to him as 'Higgy Babby'. Sounds to me like you're on the right track in terms of increasing your miles, but there's no need to overdo it. Sometimes...

I was running a lot last winter/early spring, and I was probably at my lightest weight in 10-15 years. Life has sped up a bit for me in the past six months, though, so I haven't been running at all for the past 4-5 months, and a good 20-25 pounds has come back on. The main reason is that I'm...

Happy birthday, chief. It takes guts to walk a long, long way away from a legal career just to meet single bears, but good for you.

Funny how little things are quite distracting on the course, which can be a good thing. Less time thinking about pain or how far you have to go.

I notice a couple of folks mention Higdon here - he was recommended to me by a another (real) runner here in the office, so I followed his half-marathon training schedule pretty closely. Great stuff to use if you're starting out. I find that if I plan my runs out every week, put them on my...

Are there any other tools into running here? I looked for a thread with this but couldn't find one (except for the 2007 Boston Marathon). I just started running a couple of years ago, and I really like it. I just ran as part of a relay team today in Burlington VT's Keybank Marathon. 6.5...
