    FWIW, Cotillo had like half a dozen quotes from (probably) agents this off-season that said the Sox were acting like a small market team. He didn't have a single quote from anyone saying the Sox were making good offers but the players just weren't interested in playing in Boston.

    This deal is an absolute joke and should have been beaten by the Sox. I haven't watched an inning of spring training so far and I honestly have no desire to now. The Sox decided the team wasn't worth investing in, so I suppose I will too.

    I mean, it's the first step of what we want. But the Sox began extension talks with Lester and Bogaerts at one point (that we later learned were seriously lowball offers). So I won't be giving the Sox credit for starting talks, yet.

    Becket had 10/5 rights at the time of the Punto trade, so it's not impossible, but you're right that the more of them are involved the more difficult it becomes.

    But if getting a better hitter was a stated goal, then why should they not be held to that goal? It's not someone else set a goal for them that was too lofty to reach - they put it on themselves, and it looks like they will not meet it. IMO, they should 100% be held to their own words and stated...
