Unless, of course, Romy doesn't hit any better in the majors than DalbecAs someone who always rooted for Bobby D, this is the absolute right move and Romy is a much better fit for this roster right now.
Unless Dalbec can play a respectable shortstop, it doesn't much matter what Romy can hit in the short term.Unless, of course, Romy doesn't hit any better in the majors than Dalbec
Romy's played 36 innings of SS at the MLB level, so I guess we'll have to see if he can play there on a regular/semi-regular basisUnless Dalbec can play a respectable shortstop, it doesn't much matter what Romy can hit in the short term.
Yup expected it. Disappointed. Hopefully just now and not for good.I think Bobby's done for now, maybe for good. Which is something of a shame. If he was still hitting LHP like he did in '20 and '21, he'd have a ML job.
Wellness check on @Ale Xander ?
I wish Dalbek well on a small market NL team, too. Edit: Either Dalbec or DalbeK ...D'ohAs someone who always rooted for Bobby D, this is the absolute right move and Romy is a much better fit for this roster right now. I really hope that he can go to a small market team and get a chance. A change of scenery is well overdue and it was getting tough to watch.
I think we might see Dalbec go down as soon as they're back in Boston, and we end up with both Hamilton and Romy for the homestand.
Do they not check players eyesight and find the absolutely best possible solution? It seems crazy that that would be an issue they couldn't correct.Dalbec is still a better defensive 3B than Reyes, and a better 1B than all 3. But yes, Romy is a better SS. So now it seems Story's injury hurt Bobby so that's rough, given the respective salaries. Do wish I could have seen him at Fenway. I do kind of think it's the glasses/eye sight. He could rake in 20-21.
He raked in 20, though that could have been small sample size luck with his .394 babip in only 92 PAs, or pitchers not knowing how to attack him. He really didn't rake in 21 except against lefties, overall he was a slightly above average hitter, which isn't nearly good enough for his putrid defense that year as anything but a lefty specialist.Dalbec is still a better defensive 3B than Reyes, and a better 1B than all 3. Thanks for the LOL. I like Bobby, but all 9 of his at-bats made me sad. May my last memory of him include an actual batted ball. He’ll always have that weak fly ball to RF yesterday. At least it didn’t end on a K.
"They" can check all they want, but the player has to go along with it. There's a history of players choosing not to wear corrective lenses for whatever reason. IIRC, Jim Rice needed glasses toward the end of his career but was loathe to wear them on the field. Pretty sure there's a thread or two in the archives here bemoaning Will Middlebrooks being resistant to wearing glasses or contacts. We don't know if Dalbec's issue is his eyesight (he seems to hit okay in AAA and spring training where the lighting is often worse). But if it is, it may not necessarily be a matter of it not being diagnosed.Do they not check players eyesight and find the absolutely best possible solution? I’m not disbelieving you, but it seems crazy that a hitter of all things -- a declining hitter -- would be reluctant to fix their eyesight. It’s like legal steroids, with no side effects and benefits for life that extend beyond baseball."They" can check all they want, but the player has to go along with it. Damnit. I was once on the Dalbec bandwagon but am so far off now.... this can only mean Devers is likely heading to the DL
Or Romy.Damnit. I was once on the Dalbec bandwagon but am so far off now.... this can only mean Devers is likely heading to the DL

Hopefully either or and not both. If Dalbec is played with any sort of regularity and continues to shit himself it might be time to cut bait. I understand that he's basically still around because he has options, but the man himself is increasingly becoming less of an option.Or Romy.
Cut him and make him a bench coach..700 with him (all on road, all losses by 1 run)
.000 without him (all at home)
Let’s get back to winning!

Unfortunately Casas hadn't yet broken out by the time Dalbec was at his best.I feel for the guy as well, but this is another example of what happens when you hold on to prospects too long. After his first season, he should’ve been traded for the best package Bloom could have gotten for him.
He was blocked by both Devers and Casas, so he’s always been surplus.
It wasn’t that hard to see a DH and backup 1B/3B Rh Powerbat after his ‘21 fall campaign hitting low BA 30 HR season though and I don’t fault anyone for holding on to him.Unfortunately Casas hadn't yet broken out by the time Dalbec was at his best.
Agreed. Casas was doing well in the minors and it should have been assumed that he was the real prospect. You trade Dalbec and sign either Brandon Belt or Dan Vogelbach to a one-year deal to keep the position warm for him. If things go well, you have one of those guys split the position with Casas from July on.Unfortunately Casas hadn't yet broken out by the time Dalbec was at his best.
haven’t we beat this horse dead yet? Yeah, a lot of us are rooting for him, and yeah he is in a terrible spot offensively and probably needs a change of scenery. But Devers had been banged up and there were 2 LHP in this lest series and he didn’t suck at 3B. Maybe it’s time to stop harping on the obvious when it comes to his bat.Drew a walk today. Might be breaking out.
I’ll stop beating the horse when he stops playing. I know he’s only here until Devers feels better and Refsnyder is done with his rehab. But when they sent him down last time it was presumed to be permanent and within a week he was back and he’s played in the last 3 games. Shit happens. I don’t want to see him back in June. I agree with this entire post, but sarcastic one-liners on the main board made by anyone are going to understandably and properly get pushback. I get the frustration and share it, but those kind of posts tend to breed more of the same, which is not a recipe for good discourse.I’ll stop beating the horse when he stops playing. Add everything that you put in this response except the first sentence to your original post and nobody blinks.

I'm blind as a bat, but can wear contacts that let me see slightly better than 20-20.
What they can't do is give you the super human eyesight that lets you see the spin on a major league pitch in flight.
