That he’s talking about last year is the problem.Jaylen: Couldn't get a stop, couldn't make open shots... Gotta have a short term memory.

Jaylen Brown on Game 6 comparison to last year: "Last year is over with...We have to muster up whatever we have left to better for Game 6."
He was asked about this in comparison to last year, he didn’t bring it up himselfThat he’s talking about last year is the problem.
Jaylen, you didn’t win last year. You’re not defending champs. Losing should have been a burning fire of motivation for you all season. But it wasn’t.
Depends on if he misses his next three shots!guys Durant is 1-6 to start the game is it over for him?
He was literally asked about last year. I mean, he could have Belichick'ed better, but come on.That he’s talking about last year is the problem.
Jaylen, you didn’t win last year. You’re not defending champs. Losing should have been a burning fire of motivation for you all season. But it wasn’t.
What would Larry have said in his second year in the league? Because that's how old Tatum is.What would Larry Bird have said after a game like this? Tatum isn't Larry, doesn't have his cache, but Larry would rip his own team after a game like this, and be hardest on himself. No one can play that role on this team.
Dude, this is tatums 6th season. What would Larry have said in his second year in the league? Because that's how old Tatum is.
Got it.He was asked about this in comparison to last year, he didn’t bring it up himself
2/9. He’s off the hookDepends on if he misses his next three shots!
….you’re completely right. And goddamn is that sadIt's either a pathetic quote, or a perfectly accurate one in terms of the fragile bunch of frontrunners he's coaching.
Or both.
Larry won a title in his second year in the league, right? What would Larry have said in his second year in the league? Because that's how old Tatum is.
Accusing me of misquoting you, while you simultaneously misquote me.And what exactly am I confessing? That I thought the Sixers wouldn’t try hard? Oh man…you got me!
Yeah.. and he's 24 years old. I know he's been around a long time, but we haven't even seen him in anywhere close to his prime yet... and people want him to be late 20s early 30s Bird.Dude, this is tatums 6th season.
The problem is, the only one who likely tries to play that role is Smart. But it's a hard role to play effectively unless you're also the best player on the team. What would Larry Bird have said after a game like this? Tatum isn't Larry, doesn't have his cache, but Larry would rip his own team after a game like this, and be hardest on himself. No one can play that role on this team.
I’d love him to be 24 year old Bird. He’d have a ring.Yeah.. and he's 24 years old. I know he's been around a long time, but we haven't even seen him in anywhere close to his prime yet... and people want him to be late 20s early 30s Bird.
Right. He'll be more mature in 3 years. He's a great playerYeah.. and he's 24 years old. I know he's been around a long time, but we haven't even seen him in anywhere close to his prime yet... and people want him to be late 20s early 30s Bird.
Agreed. The problem is, the only one who likely tries to play that role is Smart. But it's a hard role to play effectively unless you're also the best player on the team.
Tatum has played over 80 playoff games. What would Larry have said in his second year in the league? Because that's how old Tatum is.
Hes 25. I think Bird was slightly younger when he won than Tatum will be when he is Finals MVP this year. Then the fake fans will have believed in him all along. We are lucky enough to draft one of the best guys in the game and people refuse to enjoy watching him play.Yeah.. and he's 24 years old. I know he's been around a long time, but we haven't even seen him in anywhere close to his prime yet... and people want him to be late 20s early 30s Bird.
25 (and 1/6th) but overall point still standsYeah.. and he's 24 years old. I know he's been around a long time, but we haven't even seen him in anywhere close to his prime yet... and people want him to be late 20s early 30s Bird.
He's experienced, but maybe not matureTatum has played over 80 playoff games.
Yea, in my mind if they win Thursday it says more about Philly than it does the Celtics.Forsberg, who is as level headed as it gets, says the team was shellshocked in the locker room after the game and sound like a team trying to convince themselves they can still win.
This is probably true. He's experienced, but maybe not mature
I have very few thoughts I really want to share about this one. It was awful from start to finish.View: https://twitter.com/KevinOConnorNBA/status/1656119229756612608
James Harden and Tyrese Maxey ran a combined 53 pick-and-rolls and scored an incredible 1.15 points per play tonight in Game 5, per @SecondSpectrum.
Sounds like SOSH.Forsberg, who is as level headed as it gets, says the team was shellshocked in the locker room after the game and sound like a team trying to convince themselves they can still win.
I’ve got to push back on this.Hes 25. I think Bird was slightly younger when he won than Tatum will be when he is Finals MVP this year. Then the fake fans will have believed in him all along. We are lucky enough to draft one of the best guys in the game and people refuse to enjoy watching him play.
Sounds a lot like the fans here.Forsberg, who is as level headed as it gets, says the team was shellshocked in the locker room after the game and sound like a team trying to convince themselves they can still win.
Doesn't change the fact that he's still super young.Tatum has played over 80 playoff games.
Very true..but all it takes is one win to spark belief again….and then it’s back thins for Game 7. To quote Kevin Millar “don’t let us win one…”Yea, in my mind if they win Thursday it says more about Philly than it does the Celtics.
It me.Forsberg, who is as level headed as it gets, says the team was shellshocked in the locker room after the game and sound like a team trying to convince themselves they can still win.
was wondering this myself a little while ago. Maybe they're afraid of him shouldering too much 2-way load. Doubt they trust him getting over picks vs Maxey/Harden w/ the same speed as Brown or Brogdon.I have very few thoughts I really want to share about this one. It was awful from start to finish.
But I do want to ask this, why is Jayson Tatum, arguably one of the best wing defenders in the league spending almost every possession stuck covering the completely fucking useless PJ Tucker in the corner, while we watch Brogdon/Horford/TL, etc. get their asses handed to them on PnR's over and over and over again?
What kind of bothers me about this quote is that they were getting fucking smoked all game. You would think that you could come to grips with that during the game and muster up some faith in the locker roomForsberg, who is as level headed as it gets, says the team was shellshocked in the locker room after the game and sound like a team trying to convince themselves they can still win.
There is so much bullshit to unpack in this post (although I hope your first sentence is all kinds of prescient).Hes 25. I think Bird was slightly younger when he won than Tatum will be when he is Finals MVP this year. Then the fake fans will have believed in him all along. We are lucky enough to draft one of the best guys in the game and people refuse to enjoy watching him play.
..and I'm shocked they only had 8 turnovers. Every one had to result in at least a pair down the other end.Yeah, I'm kind of surprised to see Embiid missed 13 shots. Seems like he hit dagger after dagger.
As you saw tonight they weren't even the deepest team on the floor. Brogdon is offensively legit but Grant has been useless for a long time and TL is still trying to find his footing. The coach has benched the rest of the team. They are 6 deep right now. They have the deepest team in the league.
Faith is all we got man…and to quote myself (despite both teams really wanting to win) I will be stunned if they lose Game 6.Took a shower and washed off that game.. Hope the Celts can pull a game out on Thursday.. really would like to see some changes in how and who they play.. or any kind of inspired thought process.
It's a make or miss league.. hopefully they make more on Thursday than they miss.
I seriously don't understand it. Tatum is almost always covering the guy in the corner, which is usually Tucker.was wondering this myself a little while ago. Maybe they're afraid of him shouldering too much 2-way load. Doubt they trust him getting over picks vs Maxey/Harden w/ the same speed as Brown or Brogdon.
I think they're a deep team that has a coach that thinks if he stays with the same six guys that something will change. Think that the starting five got entirely too much run tonite when it was obviously they didn't have it.As you saw tonight they weren't even the deepest team on the floor. Brogdon is offensively legit but Grant has been useless for a long time and TL is still trying to find his footing. The coach has benched the rest of the team. They are 6 deep right now.
Tucker shouldn't be allowed to play a ton of minutes.. he should be hunted on offense and doubled off of all day long until he shoots or is subbed off. Double Embiid or Harden every time he's on the floor.I seriously don't understand it. Tatum is almost always covering the guy in the corner, which is usually Tucker.
When he doesn't guard Tucker, they use Tucker at the top to set the screen, and get the guy covering Tucker (Brogdon, AL, etc.) in the action and in a mismatch. But here's the thing. if Tucker is setting the screen, it should be an automatic double team on the ball handler (usually Harden). Tucker is not a fucking guy who you worry about running the rim, he's not even a guy you worry about taking a 3 from the top of the arc.
Philly is playing 4 on 5 on offense, and we're wasting one of our best defenders on possession after possession. Put Al or TL on the corner if it's Tucker, and let Tatum or someone else be the guy in "drop/switch" coverage.
I saw it all night long, and that's all on Joe.
Completely agreed and that’s why I didn’t respond to his last post…dialed up the hit squad and called them off. There is so much bullshit to unpack in this post (although I hope your first sentence is all kinds of prescient).
I'm pretty sure "people would enjoy watching him play" if the team he is ostensibly the best player on didn't play like complete shit so often. For better or for worse, the "MVP candidate" face of the franchise gets blame for that. Why the fuck wouldn't he?
I know I'm a rare visitor to the Port Cellar, but the vitriol and haste to judge people's motivations blows me away, especially as regards bitching about the stars in game threads. It is very rare in the Bruins, Patriots, or Red Sox game threads for people to be such dicks to each other over complaining about things. They're game threads.
The back and forth between SoFl and tbb is a great example of two people who just wanna be pissed off taking it out on each other for no good reason. Nothing either one said was remotely objectionable in a game thread, and they're both phoning up hit squads on each other.
Jesus.
Literally the only thing that they should care about with Tucker on offense is the catch and shoot corner 3….and I’m not even sure they should care about that…Tucker shouldn't be allowed to play a ton of minutes.. he should be hunted on offense and doubled off of all day long until he shoots or is subbed off. Double Embiid or Harden every time he's on the floor.
They should make him shoot until he shows he can make a number of them regularly.Literally the only thing that they should care about with Tucker on offense is the catch and shoot corner 3….and I’m not even sure they should care about that…
This probably won’t happen because the Stevens coaching tree seems to think they’re above such things…but I would love it if CJM got in the refs ears about the way Tucker acts. This is someone barely playable who reacts and complains to refs as if he’s a superstar. He needs to get the Grant treatment and get a few techs
Do you think he gets a favorable whistle? I see him get rung up when he fouls.Literally the only thing that they should care about with Tucker on offense is the catch and shoot corner 3….and I’m not even sure they should care about that…

I haven’t noticed Maxey but the other 3 are truly on another level. Harden is probably the worst. If he gets touched on the offensive end, he throws a fit and doesn’t even attempt to run back. I am almost impressed by his audacityThey should make him shoot until he shows he can make a number of them regularly.
Watched the game without sound tonite.. the Sixers surrounded the refs after every foul call... Embiid, Harden, Tucker, Maxey all threw hissy fits that would get Tatum T'd up. But I agree.. Tucker is on another level given his amount of talent. He's allowed to hack all game long which is the only way he can guard anyone.
Joe should probably also mention that Embiid and Tucker haven't set a non-moving screen all series.
I don’t know if he gets a favorable whistle but the refs sure as shit give him a lot of leeway to whine and gesture about calls.Do you think he gets a favorable whistle? I see him get rung up when he fouls.
