When we wrote up Playmaker Score, Tyquan Thornton had an estimated draft position of "UDFA."

In @BobMcGinn's draft scout series, this is what a scout said about Tyquan Thornton: “He’s a big-play threat waiting to happen. He’s a better version of Darius Slayton or Will Fuller. What (Henry) Ruggs was. He’s got that caliber impact. But this guy can actually run routes.”
Yeah. No idea about his skill set but you can’t teach speed. Wonder if he can return kicks. We all said they more speed on the field. This picks helps address that. I like the potential.
Probably Moss and Stallworth (no direct comparison intended, of course). He could be fun with Nelson - when was the last time we had two speedsters?
I agree. They need a dynamic playmaker on offense who can beat man coverage and poses problems for defenses. No idea of this guy pans out but at least they’re taking a swing. We all said they more speed on the field. This picks helps address that. I like the potential.
I know there have been a number of analyses of this, but if memory serves one of the reasons the Steelers are known as great WR drafters is because they draft a lot of them. I also think a coach/GM with the wisdom to draft Givens and Edelman in the 7th round has to be at least somewhat competent.WR in the second round scares me since it's probably the one position I don't really trust BB on.
All the tweets seem solid, so why was he mocked later in the draft? What is be bad at, is he just thin?
He mostly just doesn't draft them. Last 2nd rounder they drafted was 2013, Dobson, who was the 6th WR taken, he was depending how you grade it better as a rookie than either 3 or 4 of the 5 guys ahead of him...... then his leg fell off.WR in the second round scares me since it's probably the one position I don't really trust BB on.

My very limited understanding is that there are questions on his route trees, minimal experience with good QB play, and very small hands. I dunno, I’m excited. Can’t teach speed and we saw what that can do to a team.I'm asking here, not criticizing. Everything I am seeing is good stuff. Burner, take the top off the defense. Good ball tracking, good at catching the ball in traffic. Good blocking. What am I missing that this guy wasn't on peoples boards? Is he only capable of going straight? Can he not run anything other than a go route? Is he too light for his frame? There has to be something that suppressed his value given his combine speed. Was he hanging out with Tyreek Hill on the wrong night or something?
Help me out here folks...

Im just speculating but the combination of being hurt almost all 2020 and then being on a kind of crappy passing offense in 2021 might have caused him to fly under the radar a bit among draftniks.I'm asking here, not criticizing. Can it carry more weight? Will Fuller is probably his best comp. The list of WRs over 6'0 and under 190 lbs is incredibly small. I think I'd like the pick better if he was 5'10". That lean a frame seems like a recipe for injury prone career.
(In my Jerry Seinfeld voice) If WR's at the combine are trying to get their fastest times and use the 4 point start position, why don't they use it in games? And why do airplanes serve peanuts - are we elephants? The low angle is sick.

This is like how in the grocery store there’s usually a faster line than yours. Sure, there will be comparisons, but no matter which of those four the Pats picked, the odds are he wouldn’t end up the best. Anyway I’m just happy they picked a guy who made me remember Tiquan Underwood. This is the stuff of nightmares for the entire NE fan base:

So the Patriots set off a run of WRs.
50th overall: Tyquan Thornton (Patriots)
52: George Pickens (Steelers)
53: Alex Pierce (Colts)
54: Skyy Moore (Chiefs)
You can bet that will make for regular comparisons for years to come."
He may ultimately be right but this is some lazy ass tweeting bullshit on Rich’s part. You could literally put those names in any order and say the same thing. This is the stuff of nightmares for the entire NE fan base:

His whole feed is full of straight garbage, just "I'm mad Bill didn't take my binkie" tweets left and right. He may ultimately be right but this is some lazy ass tweeting bullshit on Rich’s part. You could literally put those names in any order and say the same thing.
To be fair, the Pats' wide receiver track record is pretty damn shitty. But yes, none of us know anything. On that I agree. If the pick had been Skyy Moore or Pickens, people would be thrilled and praising the Pats. I feel like it's pretty useless to complain - they could have had one of them and valued Thornton the most. The track record isn't spotless, but it's not horrible either and it feels foolish to me to think they don't know what they're doing.
Isn't the goal to find the best guy, though? This is like how in the grocery store there’s usually a faster line than yours.
