Sure but the third was also a coin flip. Especially if Colby’s takedown wasn’t a takedown. I think it was and the round was still close.
Yes, I think the right guy got the decision, no doubt. I’m just a little disappointed. Didn’t think Colby was going to have to almost get finished to start fighting well.Sure but the third was also a coin flip. Especially if Colby’s takedown wasn’t a takedown. I gave Usman 5, but could have seen this as well.I had 47-47. Usman won 1 & got a 10-8 in 2, Colby won 3-4-5.
Ar least Frankie kept all his teeth.Wow, front kick KO is uncomon. Perfect placement.

He does a weird head roll downward after taking punches that makes them look worse than they are. Took me a couple rounds to track that.
Last thing I want to say about this card. Man, Usman is an impressive son of a bitch. His whole modus operandi used to be to try to lay down on top of guys and he has become a ferocious striker. It shows maximum dedication.
Steve Segal special.Wow, front kick KO is uncomon. Perfect placement.
What do you guys think of the ruleset? Does it level the playing field between boxers and mma fighters enough to make those fights competitive and (presumably) more interesting?Fighters will compete in a triangular ring and under two-minute rounds. The idea is to set professional boxers against professional MMA fighters in an environment that’s “leveling the playing field.”
Like in boxing, only punches will be allowed. No kicks or elbows are permitted in Triad Combat. What does differs from boxing, is that this new fighting style will allow clinching and striking from the clinch.
San Shou already was a thing. Cung Le was good at it. It was kickboxing plus takedowns but very limited time on the ground I think.Triangle ring? That's super gimmicky. I suppose it will make it easier to get trapped in a corner. Less space to move around in too.
I have to say, it seems difficult to come up with rules that both level the playing field and don't make just like a different form of boxing. I suppose that makes sense since MMA has so many more modes of attack and it's unreasonable to expect boxers to effectively learn other disciplines in a short amount of time. What pure boxer would ever agree to allow kicking or wrestling?
This makes sense. This sounds like punch only Thai Boxing in a triangle ring. They should at least allow elbows. I’m assuming they are using boxing gloves. I’ll watch any kind of of combat sport but I can’t say I’m excited about this.
Truly useful clinch striking is a bit of a niche ability in MMA. And even then, it’s mostly the province of Muay Thai practitioners who can elbow and knee (think Silva kneeing Franklin). It doesn’t move the needle here very much, IMHO.I'll post it here in the MMA thread but it could just as easily go in the boxing thread:

The first lineup looks interesting. I won't buy it, but I'm curious how it turns out.
Couture is one of the few non-Thai stylists that had masterful clinch striking because of his high-level background in greco with solid boxing training.Truly useful clinch striking is a bit of a niche ability in MMA. Ridiculous old man strength in his hands, too. Couture is one of those guys who was 40 in his 20s.Couture is one of the few non-Thai stylists that had masterful clinch striking because of his high-level background in greco with solid boxing training.
That is the fight that should happen. Winner can get Usman.Rumors of Khamzat wanting the fight. If he goes and and beats Leon, he may be next for Usman
shit man, I did not realize he was on the early prelims.I do so enjoy watching Ryan Hall fight.
Calm down, wasn’t even the most Hagler-Hearns MMA fight this year. Not that there’s been one. Ever. Profaner. Maybe that Dan Severin fight where he just face punches that giant dude for 2 straight minutes out the gate.MMA Hagler Hearns
I think you’re remembering Don Frye vs Takayama (who was a pro wrestler).Maybe that Dan Severin fight where he just face punches that giant dude for 2 straight minutes out the gate.
My post was after round one thinking we were going to get more of that. Chandler Gaethje recently was good but need champions for it to be Hagler HearnsCalm down, wasn’t even the most Hagler-Hearns MMA fight this year. Not that there’s been one. Ever. Profaner. Yeah Chandler Gaethje was what I had in mind, but you’re right about champions - well, all-timers. And yes @Vinho Tinto that’s the fight I meant. My post was after round one thinking we were going to get more of that. Chandler Gaethje recently was good but need champions for it to be Hagler Hearns
I can't think of a Hagler Hearns, but the closest thing IMO is Stephen Bonner vs Forrest Griffin. I could be glorifying it in my head thoMy post was after round one thinking we were going to get more of that. Chandler Gaethje recently was good but need champions for it to be Hagler Hearns
That was just a brawl, imo. Those guys kind of suck in terms of elite skills. Tough guys and built the UFC with that fight in a big spot so all respect to them. I think of that as a less skilled Gatti/Ward. Hagler/Hearns is more like if Max fought Oliviera now but both of those guys are kind of the Hearns.I can't think of a Hagler Hearns, but the closest thing IMO is Stephen Bonner vs Forrest Griffin. Hagler is arguably the best 160 everI didn't know Hagler and Hearns were all timers. Agreed Bonnar and Griffin are... decent fighters, not championship caliber. What about Rory vs Lawler?
Yeah, this conversation is absurd. In order for a fight to be Hagler/Hurns, it better be the best UFC fight you've ever seen, and most likely the best you'll ever see.I have a double bias here, but Hagler and Hearns were both top 5 all time guys in their natural divisions in a 150-year old sport. I can’t think of anything that would be a parallel in UFC yet. Maybe if Khabib and GSP had an all-time classic at welterweight I could squint and see it.
Funny stuff:In addition to being very public with his love of BJJ, we now know that Bourdain was also engaging in the sport’s culture in a more understated manner. Rolling Stone has confirmed that Bourdain frequented the reddit community r/bjj under the name NooYawkCity.
My favourite comment is what he wrote in response to a video of actor/martial artists Steven Seagal.
“Seagal is a ‘deadly mofo’ if you get between him and the all you can eat pasta bar,” wrote Bourdain. “The hair is definitely deadly though. A wad of that Dynell weave comes undone during a fight with Lightning Chunks of Death and you could choke.
Jake Paul just murdered Woodley.
