Pulled a LeBron? Did LeBron win 6 times before going to Miami?
Tom Brady didn’t want to spend his last few years on a team with no weapons after staying loyal to the Pats his whole career - unlike Favre or Peyton or Montana. Brady left money on the table almost every year so we can win. He can do whatever the fuck he wants and I’ll root for him. 20 years guys. 6 SBs and 20 years. We’d sucked before him. Never won. Once. Now we’re the winningest franchise ever. All in our lifetimes.
As I said I hold no ill will towards Brady leaving, but I won't be rooting for him because he left.
And a LeBron in the sense that he is moving to find the best opportunity to win which in the NBA includes bringing his friends with him. LeBron has ushered in the era of players building super teams on their own (see Brooklyn Nets).
In the NFL it is obviously different due to 22 vs 5 starters but we are already seeing Rodgers trying to move on from GB to a team of his choosing. Will top QB's now bolt to better rosters when they have the chance instead of trying to build something where they were drafted?
From a labor standpoint, this is all great to have the power move from the teams/owners to the players, but from an old-fashioned team-building standpoint it is disappointing and turns the top QB's into "kingmakers" which I don't love.
While typing this out I am wondering why I care and I think it feels to me that winning a championship with a mercenary QB takes something away from the team and the town.
