Ha, he considers this a rebuttal?
Interesting, I have been Hulk-style always angry at hockey since then.Haven't been this mad at hockey since SCF G5, which is saying a lot.
And unlike Hulk none of us have Scarlett Johansson to stroke our arms.Interesting, I have been Hulk-style always angry at hockey since then.
No, it’s not a great way to live.
honestly we're locked in for next year's tickets because they just just kept the $ and applied it a year later (which you well know) but I might be done after that. I'm not sure I can keep throwing money at this league if this is going to be what it is and I see no reason to suspect anything will change.Haven't been this mad at hockey since SCF G5, which is saying a lot.
I was just thinking that if I have the chance to take my son to game 7, I’m not sure I could do it. A loss could scar him for life.I'm pretty confident about game 6. I'm worried about game 7.
I was at ALCS Game 7 in ‘03 as a 15 YO. I wouldn’t say it scarred me....but only because they obviously handed the Yankees their worst and most embarrassing defeat on the way to winning the World Series the next year.I was just thinking that if I have the chance to take my son to game 7, I’m not sure I could do it. A loss could scar him for life.
I didn't see this clip, but during the 2nd intermission Sharp specifically said 2 of the 3 penalties shouldn't have been calledI think there are broader issues than reffing and penalties have been an issue all year but NBCSN just ran Cassidy’s presser then followed up with all the Bruins penalties and Sharp (swoon) and Carter saying, “Yep they were penalties”. The entire point of his rant was the calls they aren’t being called on the Isles but are on the Bruins.
he got a phone callI didn't see this clip, but during the 2nd intermission Sharp specifically said 2 of the 3 penalties shouldn't have been called
What’s strange though is that the Bruins are a farrrrr bigger TV draw than the Islanders. I know, “New York bias” and all that, but if the league was actively trying to fix things, they’d favor the Bs. I think it’s just that NHL officiating is incompetent. The league is fucking crooked. Yes I'm jaded but the screw jobs are just too frequent and and too consistent to come to any other conclusion. I'm rip shit for Bergeron who should have had more hardware and will be screwed because he wore the black and gold.
There is always someone who will give us the "but guys they should have played better and made the refs irrelevant" you can set your watch to it. The Islanders are are a good team. You can't give playoff caliber teams that big of an advantage and expect teams to play through it.Folks are upset that there were some non-calls that should have gone against the Islanders…44 -19 wasn’t enough of a shots advantage? 5 goals on 19 shots - win probability = 0
I was admittedly more focused on the idea of them contrasting Bruce’s thoughts with Bruins penalties so may have missed a couple specifics. Just an odd thing to produce.I didn't see this clip, but during the 2nd intermission Sharp specifically said 2 of the 3 penalties shouldn't have been called
Did you actually watch the game?Folks are upset that there were some non-calls that should have gone against the Islanders…44 -19 wasn’t enough of a shots advantage? 5 goals on 19 shots - win probability = 0
Hanlon’s Razor. Don’t attribute malice to that which can be explained by incompetence. Cost the Pats a third rounder. What’s strange though is that the Bruins are a farrrrr bigger TV draw than the Islanders. Yeah. I live in NY and had to think long and hard about any Islanders fans I know so we could trash talk. The only one I could come up with was a friend’s spouse. I had a half dozen classmates from LI and they are all some combo of Habs and Rangers fans. What’s strange though is that the Bruins are a farrrrr bigger TV draw than the Islanders. Wonder what the odds are of the Bs penalty ratio year after year in comparison to their possession time if you'd expect the incompetence to even out over timeWhat’s strange though is that the Bruins are a farrrrr bigger TV draw than the Islanders. It’s easier to get high threat shots when you get gifted power plays while getting dominated 5 on 5, and events can have multiple contributing causes.Folks are upset that there were some non-calls that should have gone against the Islanders…44 -19 wasn’t enough of a shots advantage? 5 goals on 19 shots - win probability = 0
Love that team but Luongo shit himself in that series; not in game 7 but it shouldn't have gotten that farIt’s remarkable the Bruins won that Game 7 in Vancouver with zero officiating bullshit.
They don’t. We looked at it a few years ago I think, and it was ridiculous. Like, “These guys are either criminals, fucked someone’s mom, or they’re getting screwed,” ridiculous. I can’t imagine that it’s gotten any better.Wonder what the odds are of the Bs penalty ratio year after year in comparison to their possession time if you'd expect the incompetence to even out over time
Nah, America loves Leo KomarovWhat’s strange though is that the Bruins are a farrrrr bigger TV draw than the Islanders. I know, “New York bias” and all that, but if the league was actively trying to fix things, they’d favor the Bs. I think it’s just that NHL officiating is incompetent.
No, you’re right. The highlight reel was completely detached from the commentary, which was actually supportive of the missed / inconsistent calls. Fucking maddening.I was admittedly more focused on the idea of them contrasting Bruce’s thoughts with Bruins penalties so may have missed a couple specifics. Just an odd thing to produce.
Yeah, I vaguely remember someone running the numbers at one point in comparison to every other team in the league. Who knows what the exact reason is, but the Bs definitely aren't treated the same as every other team in the league. They don’t. We looked at it a few years ago I think, and it was ridiculous. Like, “These guys are either criminals, fucked someone’s mom, or they’re getting screwed,” ridiculous. I can’t imagine that it’s gotten any better.
It has nothing to do with market size, or the Bruins opponent. The guys that run the league are in that GTA bubble, and that’s all they hear on talk radio and around town up there is how dirty the Bruins are. Also, the Marchand licking incident was a massive story up there. They really need to find a way as an organization to get that rap off of them. What’s strange though is that the Bruins are a farrrrr bigger TV draw than the Islanders. I know, “New York bias” and all that, but if the league was actively trying to fix things, they’d favor the Bs. I think it’s just that NHL officiating is incompetent.
It may be incompetence, but it’s targeted.Hanlon’s Razor. Don’t attribute malice to that which can be explained by incompetence. Cost the Pats a third rounder.
Yes. I watched this game and a thousand other just like it. Somebody’s always on the wrong side of bad officiating in the NHL. It didn’t stand in the way of Bruins getting 44 shots in net and only giving up 19. Islanders got playoff caliber goaltending and the Bruins did not. That was the difference tonight, despite the miserable officiating.Did you actually watch the game?
Rask did not play great. Fine.
But the refs put their thumb on the scale at exactly the points the Islanders needed it, completely violating any sense of standards for how the game would be called. It was a fraud.
Were there two? I saw the one behind the net that went uncalled, when was the other one? After g5 2019, nothing fazes me anymore.
That being said, two delay of game penalties going fucking uncalled, the second a few minutes before Bergeron's, nearly put me over the edge tonight.
I’m in Fairfield County and I know one, admittedly crazy diehard, Islanders fan... and about 20 kajillion Rangers fans. The Islanders fan base is among the smallest in the league. A Lightning-Islanders semis would be ratings poison. And with a Canadian team guaranteed to be in the other semis, it’s going to be lean times for the league’s U.S. media partners, regardless.Yeah. 1. No one would confuse NHL leadership with titans of industry.I guess I always go to why then. What reason do they have to target an Original 6 franchise in a major American market?
Late second period, B's were chipping it in (Bergeron I believe), Pelech swatted it out of mid air from just inside his own blue line over the glass; faceoff was in the Isles' zone, no penalty called. My assumption is that they called a deflection but it looked like it went straight out and the B's were lobbying hard for it. As expected, NBC broadcast doesn't give it a second thought / replayWere there two? I saw the one behind the net that went uncalled, when was the other one?
Oh, thanks, I do remember that one now. It was over quickly, no replay, no commentary - didn’t fit the relentless Isles ballwashing theme...Late second period, B's were chipping it in (Bergeron I believe), Pelech swatted it out of mid air from just inside his own blue line over the glass; faceoff was in the Isles' zone, no penalty called. Maybe there’s some grand conspiracy against the Bs, who knows, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to be rearing its head in this series. Which is not to say the officiating is acceptable.

That’s no TV draw whatsoever, though. Like I can’t adequately express how irrelevant the Islanders are to TV ratings.Historic Nassau Coliseum, in its final season. The ghosts have awakened as the Islanders prepare for puck drop in the Stanley Cup Final - next on NBC.
Islanders literally had NO shots, no ToP, no O Zone time, nothing. Stick tap by Kuraly call completely interrupts the relentless cycling and chances at the other end. Isles trip Bruins with possession, attempt leg checks, mug Bergeron late and away from the play, chuck the puck over the glass - nothing rose to the level of a stick tap that didn’t hinder the shot in the slightest. Without three straight power plays against depleted D corps, Islanders shots would have been like 9. For the game. Two standards. Lather, rinse, repeat...Yes. It just sucks that the Bruins have to play literally a perfect playoff game to overcome the refs.I keep going back to how they started the game and how the game would’ve played out if Marchand buried that shot at the goal mouth to give them a 2-0 lead.
Or they could score a goal and extend their early lead for once.It just sucks that the Bruins have to play literally a perfect playoff game to overcome the refs.
