Yeah.. var isn’t as accurate as it needs to be to make that kind of decision (frame rate vs speed of play, etc).. the whole time they’re looking at his toe.. where was the ball? How can you see if it was still in contact with Laca? It’s a system that relies on everyone not looking at it too closely so that it can maintain its veneer of hyper accuracy.VAR denies Arsenal a goal by a toenail being offside. I'd like to see VAR adopt a margin of error, like the "Umpire's Call" decision in cricket video reviews: if the play is called onside on the field, you have to be at least a foot (or more) offside for a goal to be overruled.
Exactly. If you froze the feed one frame later (and there is no way to tell with certainty what frame the ball leaves Laca's head on the flick, then maybe this toenail is back on side. Saka was moving back away from the goal at this moment and the defender was shifting toward the goal.Yeah.. var isn’t as accurate as it needs to be to make that kind of decision (frame rate vs speed of play, etc).. the whole time they’re looking at his toe.. where was the ball? What makes it even more enjoyable is the complete hack of a color man agreeing with every refs decision like they’re crystal clear good calls. Arsenal are getting fucked over today. That penalty didn't seem any less offside than Saka, then it was a pretty obvious "hey the player's leg is out so I'm going to jump over it and I could easily stay on my feet because the contact was light as a feather but fuck it I'll just pretend like I've been shot instead and see what happens" type of situation.
Once again, if you took the still one frame differently then this may be offside. Stupid to pretend like VAR can distinguish the Saka situation from this situation.

Also.. those stills are ridiculously arbitrary. The VAR cameras need to have a much higher frame rate.. but even if they did how can you even tell the ball is off the foot or not? Both of these stills are frozen at some arbitrary moment to make an arbitrary decision. And these fucking announcers going on about how it was such a great Refs decision. Why ‘of course’? If you’re going to call Saka off you have to call that off. That should be onside, of course, but I don’t blame you guys for being annoyed by it. We really need to fatten that line to a good 12 inches and if there’s any overlap play on
For the record, the law is that the attacking player's hands and arms don't count for being offside, because you can't legally play the ball with them.HA HA Fulham guys hand is offside but apparently that's okay.
That’s interesting.. never thought of thatFor the record, the law is that the attacking player's hands and arms don't count for being offside, because you can't legally play the ball with them.
As CP said the rule is that the hands and arms don’t count except the shoulders. But it should be onside because we shouldn’t be actively ruling out goals for things like thisWhy ‘of course’? If you’re going to call Saka off you have to call that off.
Edit: which is what you may be saying... but there’s no way to say with certainty that either was off or on IMO given the games current rules.
Word.. sounds like we more or less agreeAs CP said the rule is that the hands and arms don’t count except the shoulders. But it should be onside because we shouldn’t be actively ruling out goals for things like this
Spurs and Arsenal would guarantee early exits. Maybe that is how Daniel Levy wants to stop Jose complaining about schedule congestionThis will probably warrant new thread soon, but NBC joins a few other places in amplifying a report by the Times of London that 5 EPL teams have signed on to a 16-team European Super League apparently bankrolled in part by DAZN (?).
Sounds weird because he’s a winger/striker but the worst part of his game is his finishing. He’s so electric with the ball though. And that cut back just now? Rashford playing with defenders in the most entertaining way.
Is VAR a joke or should Arteta be sacked, because it seemed like arsenal dominated the game and were very unlucky and/or screwed to not walk away with 3 points?Another awful performance from Arsenal. If Arteta doesn't win Europa, time for the pink slip.
2 things can be true.Is VAR a joke or should Arteta be sacked, because it seemed like arsenal dominated the game and were very unlucky and/or screwed to not walk away with 3 points?
if Arsenal held top of the table at any point of the season, Arteta could have gone the way of Mourinho and Lampard. Funny how Ole survived that.Is VAR a joke or should Arteta be sacked, because it seemed like arsenal dominated the game and were very unlucky and/or screwed to not walk away with 3 points?
I gotta think Hugo and Kane are borderline picking the team today? I haven't been this curious about team selection... maybe ever? I literally have no idea what Mason and friends will do.I don't think it would be possible for Spurs to get further embroiled in controversy, but the club always finds ways to amaze me.
Expecting to see Tanganga, Vini, Gedson, and Dane Scarlett starting today.
Why would they be picketing?I gotta think Hugo and Kane are borderline picking the team today? I haven't been this curious about team selection... maybe ever? I literally have no idea what Mason and friends will do.
They were terrible in the first half. But then absolutely dominated the second. two var decisions evened out and it was a deserved 3 points. Was getting my first COVID shot during the game. Everything is looking great! Spurs STEALING the points at the end? What a novel concept.
Does it? Seems most guys would still be playing at that age, unless for a horrific injury like Mason got.29 seems pretty old to be the youngest manager EVER in the PL?
