YMMV. At least he wouldn’t be a redundant skill set. But we’re talking about bad or worse options here.Ratley was used almost exclusively as a deep threat up the right sideline and didn't contribute on special teams. Pass.
Definite PS guy if he gets through waivers.Caash Maluia has been cut. I think that’s the most surprising move to date.
Good ... I like Law Firm 2.0
A) they had zero money during free agency B) this is a roster manipulation moveI dont get how a team w 35 million in cap space doesnt have a kicker set at this point in the offseason.
A pretty damned smart one at that.A) they had zero money during free agency B) this is a roster manipulation move
They didn't draft Rodrigo Blankenship when they could've and like we hopedI dont get how a team w 35 million in cap space doesnt have a kicker set at this point in the offseason.
But preseason played a part of that. If guys like Ross or Taylor lit it up in a game you’d be more sad. You just haven’t seen them.I remember a few years ago when this team would cut 5-10 players you were sad to see go and other teams were chomping to pick up. Not sad to see any of these guys go. I guess this is the effect of years of subpar drafting.
I prob would have just spent the 3 million for one year of Gost and called it a day. Oh well. Hindsight goggles...They didn't draft Rodrigo Blankenship when they could've and like we hoped
How much did he sign for? Did we get a report?I prob would have just spent the 3 million for one year of Gost and called it a day. Oh well. Hindsight goggles...
1 year, about $3mHow much did he sign for? Did we get a report?
Well, except it was the foresight based on rankings. I've not tabulated the "conventional wisdom" vs. "reaches" list to compare how BB would have done if he had drafted chaulk. But like some notable other picks, like BB's second round jinx, this one is not hindsight.I prob would have just spent the 3 million for one year of Gost and called it a day. Oh well. What was their status when they released Gostkowski? Just curious on the timeline, as they had him on books for $4.8M for this year. I'm having trouble finding if they ended up eating any dead cap space for releasing him.A) they had zero money during free agency
Good lord if that's where we're at...dude didn't even make the roster here and has caught 10 balls since, over 3 years.Austin Carr cut by Saints. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him back in New England.
They only had $3-4M at the time. They released him March 23. I can’t seem to nail down the exact savings, but he is counting $1.4M in dead cap. He would have had a $3.5M base salary so they may have saved that much. What was their status when they released Gostkowski? Slight pushback...because of the opt outs, the talent pool is a bit thinner this year. It seems that the level of players being released this year is on the particularly thin side. I mean, Sanu still seems to be by far the best WR released today which speaks volumes. Some folks appear to be having the annual problem of grasping what today is: It's the day to get down to 53 players ... it's not the day to have your roster set for Opening Day

Usually there are 1 or 2 players out there that we all believe can represent a potential upgrade over someone on the roster (which they virtually never actually sign mind you)....I cant see anyone this year.
Your point still stands, but I expect the roster to be a lot closer to today's come opening kickoff than typical.
The cap space just appeared recently and that kicker is likely Folk. He just isn't on the roster right now because they are trying to get some folks to IR.I dont get how a team w 35 million in cap space doesnt have a kicker set at this point in the offseason.
It's not feel better or worse. I'm just saying I dont expect as many micro transactions as usual this year. There are fewer players of any value out there, and Bill hasnt played any preseason games against other teams, hasnt scrimmaged against anyone, and doesnt have any tape to see that he didnt see pre draft. Maybe Ill be wrong i dunnoIf that makes you feel better
I would say that with less talent available, it would be more difficult to decide the back end of the roster. Comparing what would typically the 65-75 dude on the roster is going to be more difficult. It's not feel better or worse. I'm just saying I dont expect as many micro transactions as usual this year. As has been stated previously, compounding the trickiness of end-of-roster activity is the lack of “tape” on any of these guys with no preseason games being played.I would say that with less talent available, it would be more difficult to decide the back end of the roster. It's funny, I think the opposite: without tape, it's difficult to tell what players the team liked two years ago look like now until you have them in for some practices. I think there will at least be a lot of practice squad churn. It would be mildly surprising to me if there was a lot of inter-team movement. Will be interesting to compare vs. previous years.
Churn within their own squad? I'm not positive how it works, but I believe if you sign from another teams practice squad you have to promote that player to the active roster. And if you churn within your own squad with players off the street, you risk losing the players you cut to other teams because I believe they can grab those guys you cut without promoting them to their active roster. I honestly have no idea which argument is going to hold true this season because both views have some merit. It's funny, I think the opposite: without tape, it's difficult to tell what players the team liked two years ago look like now until you have them in for some practices. Great to see Myles make it through (the others too, but I get a Butler vibe from Bryant...)No Patriots were claimed not did the Pats claim anyone.
So far, here is who they’ve signed to the practice squad.
Terez Hall, D’Angelo Ross, Caash Maluia, Bill Murray, Myles Bryant, Justin Rohrwasser.
