If 21/12/4 and 36% from deep is the real Vucevic moving forward it's hard to complain even though Vucevic isn't necessarily the most exciting player. As some have pointed out you have to be weary that's a contract year mirage. I think I'm on the Russell train though. Would rather reset with three really young but really talented guys as the core.Terry/Vuc feels like a depressing early 00s Celtics move.
This is where I am. Vucevic is a nice player. If Kyrie had stayed and we didn’t get AD and Horford still left, Vucevic would be a great addition. But things have changed and now we’re likely building around much younger guys. I’d much rather tie up the cap space on Russell. I have zero interest in bringing Rozier back.If 21/12/4 and 36% from deep is the real Vucevic moving forward it's hard to complain even though Vucevic isn't necessarily the most exciting player. I'm not here for another season of Terry coming off the bench.Smart/Russell/Hayward/Tatum/TL with Brown, Williams, Rozier, Semi off the bench?
or
Smart/Brown/Hayward/Tatum/Vucevic with TL/Rozier/Semi/Williams?
I think the latter makes more sense. Not that they're the only options.
And I’d imagine Terry wouldn’t be excited by it, either.I'm not here for another season of Terry coming off the bench.
Smart can’t guard quicker guys very well or bring the ball up when pressured the way you need your main guard to do.I really don't understand the Rozier stuff, unless bigger moves are planned. Maybe they don't think Smart can handle PG? Or want him to get significant minutes on the wing? Otherwise they drafted Langford into a logjam of wings (Smart, Brown, Tatum, Hayward).
I don't think there's a max guy next year as interesting as either Vuc or Russell this year.Signing Vucevic potentially hamstrings the Celtics from signing a max guy next year (unless Hayward opts out). Vooch isn't going to get the max, he'll sign for between $20-27mm.
I believe they only added one future pick, the Milwaukee one, via Phoenix. So when all is said and done...
- Kyrie gone
- Horford gone
- Baynes gone
- $25.8 million in cap space available
- likely to re-sign Rozier
- possibly going after Vucevic (whose numbers are way better than I thought: 20.8 pts, 12.0 reb, 51.8% fg, 36.4% from three, 3.8 assists)
- added two future picks from Phoenix and Milwaukee
- drafted Langford, Williams, Edwards, and Waters
His teammates call him "Dizazz".We got Max Strus, all is good.

Gonna be an old man when Langford hits his peak.I'm okish with Vooch as a player, just don't like his timeline.
The issue is more that when you get to the end of that contract, he's not really an asset, and you don't really want to re-up him to a new one given the age.I will say this about the timeline stuff. Vuc would be a 4 year deal, so you're talking about his age 29-32 seasons, now a younger guy maybe you use Bird Rights to re-sign, but otherwise, the age isn't a big deal. You can only really build in 4 year timelines with free agents, and if Tatum and Brown are more than 3 years away from whatever you think they'll be you're screwed either way because it means you have basically nothing of value.
He's 28, not 38. You'd be paying for his age 29-32 seasons. If you like the player you shouldn't really be worried about any age-related decline in those years. Most here wanted to bring back Horford and he's five years older.I'm okish with Vooch as a player, just don't like his timeline.
As far as other guys becoming available--it always happens. The only thing we know is that it will be someone we don't expect, and that it will come out of nowhere. And now the Lakers have taken themselves out of the running for whomever that guy is, for awhile.
