The Oilers will announce Ken Holland as their new GM today. Pretty uninspiring hire if you ask me.

Take a look at the Detroit Cap Friendly page and see what he is leaving behind.

They learned absolutely nothing from the Peter Chiarelli disaster apparently

I know McDavid signed the contract, and so I shouldn't feel bad for him, yada yada yada.... but how much does it suck for hockey fans to have to watch him waste away for that organization.

Not NHL, but the Manchester Monarchs (ECHL) have ceased operations.

I hadn’t been to a game in a long time, but I’ve read that the fan experience was bad, starting with the new ownership saying there’d be no difference between the AHL and the Coast, then raising ticket prices for their first Coast season. Attendance was so bad that they hosted a playoff game at a local rink in Exeter. They might be able to come back in a couple years, but the thinking is they’d need to be a Bruins affiliate with all-new branding.

There’s also a discussion to be had about the city building a 10,000 seat arena. The hockey team is gone, the acoustics drive away a lot of top-end entertainers (or at least it did, I’m willing to be corrected), and it looks like there hasn’t been any investment in the arena since it opened.

Esa Lindell signs an insane 6 year, $5.8m AAV extension. Not good for anyone hoping to extend Carlo on a reasonable deal. But great news for Brandon Carlo and his agent

Isles extended Nelson, 6 year $6 million AAV.

The Athletic reporting that the Wild are in deep on a Kessel trade. Could be Kessel and Jack Johnson for Jason Zucker and Victor Rask.

How the hell does that deal make any sense for Minnesota? They already have two hometown boy contracts that are murdering them, why would they want two more?

I don’t see Kessel as a bad contract. With the Leafs still retaining, the cap hit is $6.8 AAV for 3 years, actual cash dollars is $19 million. He’s 31 and still had 82 points in 82 games this year, so he’s still quite productive. It’s reasonable to project his counting numbers to decline once he leaves Geno and Sid, but all in all I think 3/$6.8 AAV for him isn’t bad.

I think Kessel is better than Zucker who they seem to be having buyers remorse on, he was nearly shipped to Calgary at the deadline. Rask for Johnson is basically mistake for mistake. From that angle it doesn’t look as bad for Minny.

All that said, the Thrill appears to not want to go back to Minny.

Capfriendly tweeted out the people with expiring draft rights as of 2017. Cedric Pare (2017 6th) and Daniel Bukac(2017 7th) are the current B's picks with expiring rights.

So Charlotte knocked out Toronto in the AHL eastern finals in 2OT tonight. The goal came after the refs missed a puck hitting the netting.
Checkers shot deflected and hit the net. Marlies got possession and had a rush then the Checkers scored on their next rush. So at least it wasn't as bad as the Bruins-Jackets. But still. Cluster fuck.
