I would give Edelman jack shit unless he actually decides to hold out. Cap money is cap money, man. He’s also missed a year and been suspended for PEDs, so he’s made some money off the field, as well.

Yeah they can't do anything for Edelman right now, but after free agency and the draft picks sign I would expect to see something - unless they give him a NLTBE incentive that wouldn't impact the 2019 cap.
Gronk is a really good blue print. He missed 5 games the year before the last one and so they set his bonus incentives right at the number just above his prior year, and they can do pretty much the same with Edelman because he missed the 4 games. I would try to do it in conjunction with a one-year extension and see if the incentives will take the place of some guaranteed money that would put money on the 2019 cap. I'd love to get him locked up for next year around $7-$8 million plus some NLTBE incentives for this year. I'd even think a two-year extension could work. He's going to have suitors next year. Especially if the cap goes up another $10 million or whatever and there's funny money to be spent.

I'm completely in agreement

I don't get the "has a right to gripe". I mean, it's a free country so sure I guess. But you sign a contract. You KNOW that as soon as you sign it (even if you sign it for the top money at your position), the next year yours will be "obsolete" and as a couple of years go by, there will be worse players making more than you. Well, when YOU signed YOUR contract, YOU went past people who are better than you who are now making less. That's just how it goes. He signed a fair contract. Sure he can ask for more, but a "gripe"? Come on.

This isn't a shill for the owners. It's just that you sign your contract knowing that this is how it will go.

You're right, but I think the issue isn't that they're just getting passed per se, it's that the entire economic system takes a huge leap. So yeah, while it also did for them, it just looks *that much worse* now because of how crazy the numbers get so quickly.

I get that it looks worse, but again, they signed a contract knowing that others would pass them. They didn't have a problem passing people when they signed their contracts. I'm all for looking to renegotiate. I was just reacting to the term "gripe". That term, along with "complain" implies unfairness, and I just don't see it that way at all.

Via @JosinaAnderson on NFL LIVE: there is an AFC North team that as recently as today continues to inquire on Odell Beckham, Jr.'s availability and discussions have remained ongoing.

It HAS to be Cleveland.
Pittsburgh could be a dark horse in this, trying to rally public sentiment after the AB fiasco and load up for a final run with Ben. They have $16M in Top 51 cap space and can easily clear more by cutting or extending Bud Dupree, who seems pretty unlikely to play under his current $9.2M cap figure.

No thanks. He makes Brown look like a saint in comparison.

There goes the only one of our free agent receivers I'd have any interest in bringing back.
6'2, 220, runs like a gazelle, OK hands, strong enough to survive playing RB, with enough shiftiness to play WR. Hard to find guys with that combo of skills who're willing and able to do whatever you ask. We'll miss you, Corduroy.

(But 2/$10m feels a smidge high...)

But he seems to not be able to run a route to save his life. Even with Brady throwing him the football and a lack of WR on their roster, his numbers were pedestrian. A whopping 21 catches. For his $10m, he should send BB Christmas cards for the rest of his life.

He tried to kill me with a couple of drops during that OT drive.

I’ll stipulate one throw was behind him a bit and another was in tight coverage but still.

He was fun and useful for a year though.

Don't think Patterson is anything special as a receiver, but he's athletic, a good kick returner, and can be dangerous as a gadget guy. Dorsett and Hogan to me are average at very best receivers who can't do anything else, so I have zero interest.

He’s not a receiver in any meaningful sense.

They’ll miss him as a gadget player/returner, but he was never gonna get significant targets in this offense.

Their defense was trash with Houston and Ford. What’s their plan for stopping teams from scoring 40 each game now?
Their defense was more or less complete shit, but at least they had some guys who could make impact plays.

Ford was admittedly a risky investment because he didn’t emerge until his contract year, and Athey couldn’t pay Houston almost 20m. Both decisions are sensible independent of each other and their roster, but they need to get some good defenders not named Chris Jones, and fast.

The Chiefs and Niners have agreed to parameters on a deal that would send OLB Dee Ford to San Francisco for a 2020 second-round pick, per source.

Ford's camp will need to work out a contract with the Niners to complete it.

I’ve got some info on Humphries. Pats have stayed in contact with him today and are doing all they can to get him to change his mind. Pats are back in play and he’s making his decision tonight.

Niners are a disaster. Ford coming off a career year at 27 on a one year franchise deal and you give up a high 2nd?

Wow -- that would be interesting. Any idea if the rumored numbers (4/36) is what it is going to take to get it done?
