I don't know how good Peppers is. I would have taken him, but I'm sure Bill wasn't giving up two high draft picks this year.

I heard at least five specific teams that had some level of conversations with the Giants about Odell Beckham. One source on a team the Giants called said the Giants spoke to “everyone.” Seemed like they were assessing his market to find the best offer on the table.

So, the Browns get Beckham for the equivalent of 5/76 and they don't have to pay any up front money. That's a really good deal. Really good. But worth a first and a third and a good player? What is the market for a top receiver in the peak of his career right now? Let's say 5/100? Or even 5/120. Let's take 5/120 for arguments' sake -- $24 million/year.

Do you really give up those picks just to save 46 million over 5 years? That's really expensive.

Peppers is a poor man’s replacement for Landon Collins. He’s also from NJ, so I gather there is some appeal for him to “come home” even if the Jints stink. I always felt he was a little overrated at Michigan, and I think he’s a little small for today’s NFL box safeties, but he’s willing to stick his nose in there. Still... quite a haul for the NYG.

Fun trade all the way around. Good luck to Cleveland.

Dave Gettelman literally has no idea what he's doing. Signing OBJ to this big deal instead of trading him last offseason, drafting Barkley instead of a QB at #2 last year, signing Solder to a big-money deal, etc. They have no sense of who they are or what their long-term plan is. They were trying to win now combined with trying to rebuild and you can't do both if you don't have a big-time QB at the helm which is not what Eli is.

So, do they go full rebuild now and release Eli?

That package is OK at best. The Giants also have to carry $16 million in dead money because they traded him pre-June 1st.
Yeah, but again you have to view this in context. They are carrying $16 million only because they got one of the best players in the game last year at a cap hit of less than $6 million. Cap space carries over, so his effective cost last year was $22 million, and they can now spread that $16 million over two years I believe. There's a bit of a zero sum game here.

I mean it isn't an awful return if you "HAVE" to trade him, but dumping an elite player and taking a big cap hit for a 1st, 3rd, and an interesting young guy seems weird.

So why not trade him last offseason before signing him to a big deal if there's any issues? We know they talked to the Patriots last offseason.

If they start the rebuild, what will they have of Barkley’s prime on the other side? What is the shelf life on RBs getting 350 touches?

That was the problem all along in drafting him. A rebuilding team does not need a star RB at #3 in the draft. They will regret the day they passed on drafting a QB at 2. Now they will have to hope to tank for Tua or Trevor Lawrence.

It's a good question, but I wonder what the haul would have been last year. I don't have access to his contract prior to the big extension but I assume that he would have cost them something significant to trade last year. Put another way, I assume that the extension last year to bring his cap hit to $5.5 million was designed to save some cap space last year.

But, yeah, if they could have gotten a first and a third last year before signing him to the extension then this probably cost them something like $14 million in cap space. But, they bought one year of a good player for that. I mean, they didn't know for a fact they would suck.

Just got off the phone w/ OBJ. Odell Beckham told me after he & I discussed what I heard about #Browns trade talk that Jarvis Landry called him & said t/ GM & the HC want you bad. Next thing you know, OBJ said Dave Gettleman called him and said "I am trading you to the #Browns."

So a 4th quarter comeback to beat the Browns in the AFCCG it is then. Didn’t see that coming a year ago.

They’re going to be a good team and a difficult matchup this year. We’re left hoping that BM doesn’t progress and that their line can’t protect.

Why not just sign Golden Tate and keep #17 and Peppers?
Maybe I haven’t watched enough Tate, but wouldn’t Tate be a bit redundant with Landry?

Regardless, Interesting move by the Giants. The prospects of Barkley and OBJ paired with a young QB seemed pretty exciting.
They must have really thought Beckham’s presence would be detrimental to a young QB...or they have no idea what the hell they’re doing.
I think I’d be bummed if I was a Giants fan that they didn’t see that potential trio through.

Albeit the situations have major differences, but interesting comparing the returns for OBJ and AB, respectively.

I think it's an overpay but one I'm fine making if I'm the Browns.

They've gotta be the favorites to win the AFC North at this point. What's their over under, 10?

I was talking to my buddy who's from Cleveland this morning about the AFC North. I think Baltimore is at 5 wins, Pittsburgh at 8 and 10 is in sight for the Browns. This was all before the OBJ trade, but I think I'd still set the O/U at 10 with a Sophomore QB.

Rapaport says OBJ wants money added to his deal ala Antonio Brown.
Of course he does.

The minute AB got resolved the question was posed whether OBJ would try to shake the Giants down. A not unreasonable question.

Maybe this was a factor in the Giants move, maybe it wasn’t, but I wanted no part of this stuff in Fox, even the threat of it. I don’t know who will be catching passes, but somehow we will muddle through.

As he should be. Cleveland still has a ton of money and OBJ can just sit out and make it a nightmare trade for them. Demand an extra 50 million, Mr. Big Vest.

Eventually the music stops. LeVeon Bell passed on franchise tender of 14.5. Word now is that the offers are coming in at 11 and 12.

But fine. Wreck Cleveland’s life, not New England’s. I don’t think he had a no-trade to justify this.
