The problem for a lot of these GMs is their job is on the line so winning the back page probably buys them a bit of wiggle room even if it hurts them long term.
Obv. that isn't a problem in NE so they can play the long game better than anyone else.

Exactly. This is directly related to "why are the Patriot so good".

And even though I hate to say this, Felger is at least partially right - a piece of why the Patriots are so good is that pretty much every other franchise sucks.

Gang green is incredible right now. Almost 95% posts in the "best FA offseason for any team ever?" category... including this gem:

"If Belicheat was waffling about whether to stay on once Brady retires, we may have made his decision for him with our offseason! LOL"

Mosley's a good player but there's a reason ILB's don't get paid like other front 7 positions, and his deal just annihilated that market. Barr is a good (inconsistent?) player who will be moving to a new position. Maybe he lights it up, maybe he doesn't. That the thing with so many of these Day 1/Day 2 deals, they might work out great but a lot of teams pay a fat premium to find out.

It's gonna be real tough for a lot of these players to provide excess value- not necessarily a bad thing. As long as you're getting value from other spots on your roster (great draft classes in years 2/3, rookie deal QBs, etc.) you can pick and choose your spots to splurge. Sometimes it works out (Gilmore), sometimes it doesn't (Adalius Thomas). It's just not a way to plug all the holes on your roster.

Meaning, "yes he'd love to stay and continue beating the Jets"

Dare I say that this reminds of that glorious Off-season Super Bowl winning team of 2010 led by Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, and LaDainian Tomllinson?

How much did Alvin Kamara’s value just go up with no more Ingram?

4 year deal for a 29 year-old RB? Saints trying to spread out the cap hit or something?
This is how the Saints roll. It's funny because they're such a well-run organization in a lot of ways, but they are the opposite of the Patriots in terms of will to delay gratification. It's all shiny objects in FA, trade-ups in the draft, and pushing out cap hits to the future.

I don't understand why one insane contract has to "set the market". Why can't other teams just go, "holy smokes the Jets are freaking NUTS for spending that kind of money on an ILB...good luck to them but NFW are we doing that." I guess I just wonder why one team's temporary insanity should set the market for all the other teams.

Total of $14.4M over those 4 years. Anything over the vet minimum for him is a complete waste. I'm sure DotB is alternately vomiting and laughing hysterically over this one.
Yeah, I just don't get it. He is a JAG. Never was that good and RBs fall off a cliff at his age.

Plot twist! LB Anthony Barr has decided to agree to terms to remain with the #Vikings, sources say. He will not be a member of the #Jets after all.

Jets fans (among others) will be crying to have the comp pick system fixed in February 2020.

$14.4 million guaranteed for Beesley, though it looks like effectively $17 million guaranteed unless he only plays one year.

One thing I love about NFL free agency is just teams shuffling around their average players and then fanbases declaring that they've "filled a hole" on their roster.

The fact that we haven't heard anything about Gostkowski may be a signal that he's at least willing to bring back a deal to the Patriots or that they are in talks. There are teams with money that need kickers and the market is kind of thin with the tag of Gould and the RFA of Butker. I know it's not every team's top priority but if he's not signed within the next 24 to 48 hours, I think the chance he'll be back gets significant.

If they have some cap space come the summer, I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like they did for Gronk last year, topping up his deal a bit, maybe through incentives.
I'm guessing this is exactly what they'll do. It will be especially easy to do this year since he missed 4 games last year so you could make the bonuses NLTBE and postpone the cap hit until next year. A bonus for 75 catches or 851 yards, for example, would both be NLTBE, and both should be attainable if he plays all year.

Yeah they can't do anything for Edelman right now, but after free agency and the draft picks sign I would expect to see something - unless they give him a NLTBE incentive that wouldn't impact the 2019 cap.
