Great, great win but it must be said; tuned in just in time to see the Bs were up by one, Acciari held in O-Zone, no call, no biggie, whoops, Williams equalizer 15 seconds later. Checks phone: 5 PPs for Car, 1 for Bos. Plus ca change...

A couple too many men calls make that look a little gaudier than it was, but the point stands.

“Went to hospital for arm injury but looks encouraging” is kinda perplexing. Wonder if he just got a bad stinger and they were extra careful given his concussion history. Those can seem super serious but actually aren’t

That was a fun game to watch. The Canes are legit. First time I can say that in 10 years. Exciting times. Congrats to the Bruins for some awesome fore checking to setup that winning goal. The B's did that really well last night and it was clear the Hurricanes were not ready for it.

This has to be evidence of Butch's rewards system, right? Wagner scored, Coyle doing everything right, Moore coming on after a few scratches...
Not necessarily. Wagner and Coyle grew up playing together, and I would assume that chemistry factors into his decision to pair them 3 on 3. As for Moore, he’s got a few GW OT goals 3 on 3 and is generally regarded as a good 3 on 3 player.

Butch plays the 3 on 3 OTs differently this year. I find when he’s playing two defenseman and a forward it often coincides with opposing the other team’s best 3 on 3 group.

Amazing, tremendous play by Jake.
He looked like Marcus Smart destroying Faulk's will.

He'd also been doing it with D-zone faceoffs, but I'm not sure he did it last night.
The Canes approach in OT seemed odd to me. Like a strict man-to-man. At first, it kept the Bruins hemmed in a bit, as the 1st guy with the puck didn't seem sure he could beat his man. But it worked out when DeBrusk wrecked Faulk.

He shortens the bench in OT, but it is just odd to me that at home he starts his 3rd line center, 4th line wing, and 6th defenseman. Coyle and Wagner have 3 minutes total ice time together. Moore is option #4 at best on defense in OT. It feels like Bruce tries to survive a shift and then get the big boys out against either tired legs or lesser competition. My problem with that is that it is really hard to change possession in OT, so there is no guarantee you make it to that second shift.

It isn’t a huge deal, they are 8-6 in OT and obviously the 3-on-3 goes away in April. I just think it is headscratching at times.

It is an odd little quirk of his, especially so last night since Coyle isn't exactly good on face offs and as you mentioned possession is so damn important in OT.

Someone somewhere must have the numbers that say something like, we are more likely to stop them and get the puck back than to give up a goal on the 1st shift. They have won their last 4 OT games (and didn't lose in OT in 3 others) in the last month, so maybe they've discovered something about themselves.

I was baffled, too. Then Coyle-Wagner-Moore spent almost all of their shift cycling in their own end — pure defensive play. The next shift was Bergeron-Marchand against the Aho group, so I guess Cassidy’s tactic was hold his top trio until the ‘Canes sent out Aho.
