SBJ's John Ourand came out with an article saying that multiple sources indicate that the season opening Thursday night game is indeed going to be Packers at Bears and not a game involving the Patriots.

Other key points:
--Patriots will open on Sunday Night Football at home. Ourand thinks the Patriots will open up against the NY Giants due to the network wanting to save the AFC games for later in the season. He says it is likely the league wants to save Chiefs-Patriots for later in the year.

--The NFC has many, many more high-profile games this year than the AFC due to the NFC East playing the NFC North and the fact that the majority of the high-profile interconference games put the NFC teams on the road so they will be on FOX.

--All of the TV executives pitched to Howard Katz of the NFL during Super Bowl week the games they want to feature on their networks. ESPN pushed for matchups that tie into the 100th anniversary for Monday Night.

--Expect to see at least 1 or 2 high profile NFC games cross-flexed to CBS such as Cowboys-Packers or Cowboys-Saints.

--In addition to ratings mainstays like the Cowboys, Patriots, Steelers, and Packers he said expect to see a lot of Bears, Rams, and Chiefs in primetime.

--Expect SNF and TNF to feature many more NFC than AFC games.

--NFL Network will exclusively air 2 of the 4 London games instead of 1. Fox and CBS will split the other 2.

--The Thanksgiving games during the day will likely be Bears-Lions and Dolphins-Cowboys. I'm not sure why Bears-Lions for a 2nd straight year, however.

Awesome. So instead of just enjoying the banner raising, we're going to get all sorts of highlights of the Tyree catch.

It is crazy to watch MNF from 1919 and see how much production values have changed ;)

This will, of course, be the 50th year of MNF.

SB champs don’t kick off the season? Sounds like disrespect to me! Might as well start up the “us against the world” narrative early this year!

Someone tell Ourand/NFL, that this is all levels of stupid. Sunday night September the 8th is a primetime Yankees Red Sox game at Fenway.

Does the season start on the 12th? In that case, I guess it makes sense. I'm assuming it starts on the 5th. According to wiki, it starts on the 5th.

Best part of opening on Thursday is they get extra couple days before 2nd game.

I'm guessing only the Fins, Bills and Jets games will be 1pm home games. Hope they spread them out a bit and not having Christmas and New Years weeks as the last two home games.

Yeah, I want the Pats to get the extra rest of playing on Thursday, and hopefully doing so will reduce the likelihood of getting a 'real' Thursday game where they have that criminally short rest.

I also hope they get some softballs in the first five.

You get the other Thursday game either way.

Ed: they got crushed by a couple of early softballs this year, but it all worked out ok.

Doubt anyone involved with this decision will pay 1 second of attention to the Sox hosting the Yankees on Sunday the 8th. I don't hate the GB/CHI matchup to open the season.

My worthless game assignement guesses:

-MNF: @ BAL
-SNF: vs. KC, @ PHI, @ CLE
-4:05/4:25 PM: vs. DAL, vs. NYG, vs. PIT
-TNF: @ MIA.
-1:00 PM: vs. NYJ, @NYJ, vs. BUF, @BUF, vs. MIA, @ CIN, @ HOU, @ WAS

Wouldn't be surprised if @ HOU ended up on MNF/TNF but there are so many marquee match ups this year that I doubt it makes SNF even though it's a matchup between returning playoff teams. HOU doesn't really have that draw and Watson doesn't have the same pull nationally IMO as a few of the other young QBs.

One thing that jumps out is that the Pats only travel out of the eastern time zone once - to Houston. That's nice.

Would they really play away games against 3 out of the 4 AFC north teams?

I don’t think Denver gets 1 SNF game let alone 2.
KC will get 3 SNF games and 2 @ home KC @ denver last season was a top 10 Game overall in 2018
Chi will be on SNF a lot and because denver new coach came from the bears some network will want that storyline plus the last 2 bear/broncos games came down to the last drive 11'15 and i put the bear game in a spot where denver is bad they can take it off

One week I can reasonably rule out for Pats at Eagles is Week 2. The Sox play at the Phillies on Sat/Sun 9/14 and 9/15. Since the 2 stadiums are so close together, I can't see the Eagles and Phillies playing home games at the same time.

So probably Pats @ Eagles, MNF, on Sept 16, then, huh?

This pattern has held up the last three seasons - no weekends with an eagles and phillies home game.

Carolina again???

They should get Miami or something to go with the former D coach theme.

Hello joint practices

I assume this is NOT in order, they always finish vs. the G-men?
This may have something to do with Giants-Jets. They usually play each other Week 3, but with them playing each other this year they don't want to do the "dress rehearsal" game. Giants-Jets will probably be Week 1 or 4.

I don't think Giants will be Week 3 either for the same reason.

Wait a sec. The Pats play the Giants this year too in the regular season. So moving them to week 3 instead of Giants-Jets doesn't make sense.

In 2015 Giants/Jets was week 3 and Giants/Pats was week 4 as usual. I assume they like to keep it that way to fill the stadium as much as possible.
