Sutton and Rex both have Jets connections (Sutton DC, Sexy HC). NFL is incestuous.
There are only 32 teams. There's bound to be some overlap.

The problem isn't really the six degrees of Vince Lombardi, so much as the fact that so many of these retreads continue to get jobs even long after it's obvious they're just not good at what they do.

I understand. But Sutton and B Schotty both suck and sucked. I could have told you this over 10 years ago. They were both helping to cost their team games this year in the playoffs.

A lot of mean spirited jokes to be made about Andy and Rex teaming up but I'm trying to be a better man in 2019.

I believe we agree on this more than you maybe think we do?

Harbaugh extended 4 years in Baltimore. Weddle saying he probably wants to continue playing even if Ravens don’t bring him back.

He still had a good season though-85.2% on FGs, right in line with his career numbers.
Given that league average was 84.7% (and the Colts FG % ranked 15th in the league), and he kicks in a dome, plus a game in Houston and Jacksonville, I would argue that he did not have a good season.

Edit: and much like with passing in the NFL, career numbers for AV are meaningless. Kicking is much better now than it was in 2000.

Not the right thread I know but do we know what happened between AV and BB? Obviously it’s worked out just find with Ghost and perhaps in just feeling a little sentimental as we prepare for another SB against the Rams. But was there something else we weren’t aware of beyond his contract? I can’t imagine he’s made that much more than Ghost these last dozen years.

They could easily draft/sign a guy to compete with AV in camp. And it’s not like cap space is a problem for them (they have like 100m), so allotting 3-4m in cap to hold onto AV is fine.

Besides age / contract, kickoffs are a big edge for Gostkowski. He's one of the better kickoff guys in the league; meanwhile the Colts have had their punter handle kickoffs for years.

Right. What do you think about that, by the way? FGs and XPs are among the most important plays in football, so having a kicking specialist just for those seems fine, but it’s got to be a little tough to need a punter who can do kickoffs, right?

Surprised the Colts wouldn’t throw money at Gost since he’s a FA and start the cycle all over again

My money is on Ghost being franchised again. It can happen twice to one player, correct?
Yes. You just pay more.

Little known, I believe you can be franchised 3 times — but the last time has to be at the QB tender price. which of course is out of the question. I believe I learned that as part of the LeVeon Bell saga.

I don't remember the specifics, but wasn't the holder at least partially at fault for one if not both of the kicks Vinatieri missed against the Chiefs? I wonder if that was an issue for some of his other missed kicks during the year...maybe the Colts think Vinatieri had a better year than his accuracy figures suggest.

Uh, do you have a link for the 3rd year thing? I’m not seeing that anywhere I can find.

https://www.thefootballeducator.com/nfl-cba-article-10-franchise-transition-players/

(b) Any Club that designates a player as a Franchise Player for the third time shall, on the date the third such designation is made, be deemed to have tendered the player a one-year NFL Player Contract for the greater of: (A) the average of the five largest Prior Year Salaries for players at the position (within the categories set forth in Section 7(a) below) with the highest such average; (B) 120% of the average of the five largest Prior Year Salaries for players at the position (within the categories set forth in Section 7(a) below) at which the player participated in the most plays during the prior League Year; or (C) 144% of his Prior Year Salary.

There's debate about that because while they tagged him the second time he didn't play under it and get paid under it, though it appears to be almost a loophole because the verbiage talks of designating not paying. Most of what I've read in Steeler press/sites indicates it's not really worth the acrimony to go down that road to litigate it. There is apparently some potential for them to use a transition tag on him.

I have no idea what to predict with Foles. Is he a starter somewhere next year?

Broncos might want a QB competition, Washington would make a lot of sense with Alex Smith’s future in doubt, and I imagine Brian Flores is open to replacing Tannehill in Miami, right?

According to sources, it sounds like #Eagles will let Nick Foles walk free and clear. Not enough space for tag and trade scenario. Will get 3rd compensatory for him. @1043TheFan - might influence #Broncos interest IMO
Needs to be pinned. Same deal as Kirk Cousins last year. Tag at your peril because the player just might force the team to eat the tender. The player has no interest in facilitating the proverbial “haul” for his old team at the expense of his new one. And would be buyers just lurk, knowing that the tagging team had little if any leverage.

Wow - proven QB starter free agent in a QB-driven league where there aren't enough QBs. Foles is going to get paid

I thought that initially, but where? If you look around the league, almost every team has long-term stability at the position or a prized rookie they’re grooming.

Again, Denver is in the QB market, with Washington, Miami, and Jacksonville probably also interested. But other than that?

Sounds like the Giants are sticking with Eli, bizarrely, and the usual suspects (Browns, Bills, Jets, Cardinals) all have young highly drafted rookies in training.

The Eli thing is bizarre, but I'm rooting for him - I really, really want to see his career record dip below .500.

Denver, Miami, Washington and Jacksonville make a market, right? Any of those teams could squint and see themselves in the playoffs, at least as a wild card, with better QB play...

Den, Mia and Jax are some pretty good options, esp the last.

I don't think WA is in this for a couple of reasons.

WOuldn't WAS be in it out of rivalry? (I know it's not the best reason, but we are talking Daniel Snyder)

What about Oakland? Sign Foles and then use their 3 first round picks to fill numerous holes.
I don’t think WA can afford Foles. The guarantees in Alex Smith’s contract put them under severe financial constraints. $20 MM cap hit for a guy who will not be playing in 2019.

That would be funny on Eli.

As for the rest, maybe that’s a market, but maybe not. What if one of them trades up for Kyler Murray, or has their sights set on one of the other QBs? When there’s only a handful of teams interested I think the market is a little softer than you might expect.

Here
Why on Earth would you publicly announce you’ll take a 3rd for a potential franchise QB? And if you really think his value is a 3rd, why hold up 15% of your cap for a risk reward of a 3rd versus a 3rd round comp?
