That's the only reason I hedged, you only get the benefit if you've given up a TD and 100% have to score, so I don't know how those numbers would shake out.
Understood. But it's hard to imagine these rules wouldn't favor the team receiving. If you stop the team on the drive, you only need a FG to win. If you give up a FG, you have four downs to either get a tying FG or a winning TD. Thus, if you're not in FG range, you go for it on 4th down everytime. And, obviously, if you give up a TD, you have 4 downs on every series to get the first down or touchdown. That's a massive advantage.

I wonder how the stats work out in college, regarding who wins when they go first or second in OT.

Complaining about the Hogan catch is rich. As SAS said, I believe the rule changed (in part because the Pats benefited from it last year against Pitt). The NFL changes all these rules because it helps the Pats, and then they end up benefiting from it in the future. I love it.

Yes but let's not forget they got hosed in last year's Super Bowl when Philly benefitted from the rule change on a play that got ruled a TD, even though the rule hadn't yet been changed.

What are the other options at this point? A rebuttal drive no matter what? That seems like a fair way to do it—back and forth until one team can’t keep up?
At least for the playoffs, I like a system where you just add another "quarter" to the game. If it's tied at the end of regulation, the game just adds another 15 minute quarter and you pick up as if it was a quarter change. Each team gets an extra timeout. And it keeps adding quarters (maybe they become 10 minute periods?) until one ends with a team ahead.

That's not feasible during the regular season where games shouldn't go too long, but it'd be a good solution for playoff games.

Kellerman says the Dee Ford penalty was a "very, very, very, very, very, very, very late call". Watch the replay:

The line judge at the top of the screen throws the flag immediately after the snap. I know he just a professional troll, but lord, the narrative after these wins is so idiotic.

There's nothing "lucky" or "unlucky" about a neutral zone infraction. It's clear as day.

You know what is "lucky"? Not having a penalty called on a pick play for a massive gain.

Kellerman can eat shit.

You're right. In fact, before the snap, you can actually see him getting ready to throw the flag. He sees it the whole time. Is probably thinking, "You dumbass, get onside." As soon as the ball is snapped, he throws the flag. Not even a split second delay. This is about as quickly as human reaction time can throw a penalty flag.

Or, you know, the team that loses the toss can play defense. Slightly less than 1 in 4 drives end in a TD, while nearly 40% end in punts.

I said this in the game thread, but why would a ref ever not call that neutral zone penalty? It would be like not calling an illegal formation on the offense. It’s an automatic call and the ref had no clue the play would result in an INT when he threw it.

Yes, this. Stop monkeying around with half-measures and play more of the same game, like they do in the NBA/MLB.

Kellerman is doing exactly what a good talking head should do which is saying something controversial but that appeals to a certain audience. The reality is that Brady, for better or worse, is a polarizing figure. Whether he deserves it is besides the point. The system-QB, lucky narrative plays to an audience and Kellerman et al are in the business of garnering eyeballs/ears for their advertisers.

As for the Brady-haters, you will never convince them otherwise because their views have nothing to do with objectivity. We should treat those people and the Kellermans of the world like we do trolls here. Don't engage, generally ignore and laugh at their "takes".

In the end, the war was won a long time ago. Brady is going to his ninth Superbowl and he has won five already, largely by carrying the team on his back to get there. Everything else is just noise.

But he's going to have the worst record of any quarterback to start nine Super Bowls ... EVER

I have a question. When do Seth Wickersham, and all of the other "journalists" who spent months telling us that Brady and Belichick and Kraft's relationships were on the rocks, publish their mea culpas? Why is nobody talking about how Alex Guerrero was there yesterday, and nobody had an issue with it? Why isn't anybody discussing how Tom Brady ran Jimmy G. out of town, because Kraft had to tell Belichick that Tom Brady still had enough in the tank (personally, my favorite bullshit story of all of them)?

Months, for months last offseason, we heard this crap. And here we are, a year later, going to another Super Bowl, knocking off the #1 seed in their own house, and well, not a peep.

Exactly. The Atlanta SB ended it for good. There were still remnants after Seattle because of “should have given it to Lynch”. Last year he had 505 yards passing and nobody really remembers it because his team lost.

The narratives are never changing. I just hope he gets one more F U SB win.

As you know, those mea culpas will never happen.

At this point, we need to just enjoy the ride and consume content that isn't trying to cater to the large audience that is sick of the Patriots, hates them or is convinced that there is a vast league-wide conspiracy to favor them via slanted officiating as well as the NFL looking the other way on their cheating. The "journalists" who promote these narratives are simply catering to this audience and whatever motivates them. I avoid these pieces and those people because life is better that way. To paraphrase Marlo Stanfield, they "want it to be one way but its the other way".

The cradle of the game.
I thought Kellerman would have limped off with his tail between his legs by now. Instead, he’s still making a career on the Brady isn’t that good stuff? Pathetic.
Despite overwhelming evidence that favors an opposing point of view, it has become exceedingly rare for people openly admit their mistake. Sports, politics, you name it: people dig in and simply refuse to acknowledge even the slighted degree of error. Kellerman might be putting in an act, but I bet he’s ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED TB12 is just not that good.

He really has turned into a vile human being. But I guess there is a lot of popularity in hate. I used to really like Kellerman on the radio 10-12 years ago. But he's a joke now.

Polarization gets clicks and ratings. It's an unfortunate development in our society in general but it is what it is. It's gonna make him money to keep doing it. It doesn't matter how wrong he is.

I just heard a stat on ESPN that I have to share:

Tom Brady completed 3 third and 10's on the final drive in OT yesterday.

This season, do you guys know how many 3rd and 10's Ryan Tannehill completed? 3.

And I heard that the 13 third down conversions yesterday were the most in 30 or 40 years. That's insane.

Wait for him to turn it around and say he was only doing it to motivate Brady and the Pats. Fucking troll

Kellerman was the worst thing that happened to boxing since Mancini killed that dude.

He has a job because his parents bought it for him.

He also admitted to slapping around his girlfriend/now wife.

He’s a piece of shit.

Kellerman is a troll. He's really not worth any of this. He also doesn't seem to actually hate Brady, either, if you listen to the whole clip instead of reading headlines. But that's not the point. The point is, he's a nobody-nothing that's not worth talking about. His schtick works because people are eating it up. I wouldn't even know Kellerman is still alive if it wasn't for people picking up his stuff and spreading it all over the place.

None of them are going to admit being wrong, either. Never gonna happen. I'm not sure it's be all that satisfying if they did. Their words are meaningless now, they'll be meaningless tomorrow.

Speaking of trolls. I'm happy we will now never hear another story about how Tom Brady skipped OTA's, and it's caused him to not be on the same page with his receivers, and Bill was pissed at him about it.

In fact, when they win the Super Bowl, I hope Bill just fucking cancels OTA's altogether just to troll everyone else.

Is it possible the Kellerman has a sympathetic TBI from covering boxing? I mean the guy is a zero when it comes to football.

Anyone who bought any of that Guerrero stuff or Bob Kraft bigfooting the Jimmy G deal, OTA nonsense--any of it--I wish that they're cowering in shame somewhere right now. But they're not.

Anyone who continues to doubt BFB and his explanation for Butler not playing is equally misguided as well. Hell, Butler was a late add to the Seahawks game because Arrington (who played all season) was ass for a day. And did anyone notice Jones and Crossen getting snaps last night? WtF is up with that? Answer--Because Bill. That's what the fuck.

Stop reading Wickersham et al. Stop listening to Kellerman. And for the love of God, avoid 93.7 and especially 98.5.

Bill Fucking Belichick is smarter than all of us. He knows what he is doing.

In the simulacrum
With respect to Kellerman, I don't watch any of this stuff anymore, and I rarely ever did in the past. But glancing in at that clip it seems obvious that Kellerman is just doing performance art. If I were charged with taking this outlandish, idiotic position I would be proud to ham it up like he is.

Pretty funny, pretty stupid.

I’m amusing myself picturing the culprit— pissed off from the nut punch loss and tired from a long, sad, trip home—reaching into his pocket as he’s taking his clothes off to climb into bed, and feeling the laser pointer and thinking “what’s this,” and pulling it out and flinging it across the floor upon seeing it.

The following is a JOKE. 100%.

Imagine if this was in NE. "Tom did you know about the laser pointers???"
