If Kingsbury comes in, is there the personnel available to run his offense? Brady isn't exactly Patrick Mahomes or Baker Mayfield with his legs. He was in here as a QB in 03 so I'm sure he'd tailor the offense to what Brady has been doing.
Running isn't particularly important for the QB in Kingsbury's offense. last 2 years his starting QBs had negative rushing yards, and Webb at QB before Mahomes wasn't a runner.

Unless Chad O'Shea is heading out the door with McDaniels it makes no sense to bring in Kingsbury at all.

They need offensive coaches. McDaniels is the QB coach as well as OC and he was rumored to be bringing along Jerry Schuplinski, the assistant QB coach, when he was taking the Colts job. Scarnecchia (70) and Fears (64) are old and could retire at any time. That leaves just O'Shea and Nick Caley. If they could get Kingsbury to take the QB coach position, that would make sense. That's arguably a step down from college OC, but if he wants to get into the NFL, it would be a nice launching pad. But it's hard to imagine him staying in that role long.

They may also see O'Shea as more of a position coach and less of an OC, though there's a good chance they lose him if they pass him over again.

Do people remember the "Greg Schiano defensive coordinator" rumors from last year? I'm not sure if those actually had any merit or not. We shouldn't discount the possibility that Belichick is just meeting with people he thinks have interesting perspective, the media gets wind of the meeting and draws connections that may or may not be there. We know Belichick meets with college coaches and we know he doesn't say much to the media directly. Who knows what he's thinking?

(apropos of nothing, just realized O'Shea was a teammate of Troy Brown's at Marshall for a couple years)

Breer was on the radio last week talking about O'Shea. He said that, last year, when McDaniels was rumored to leave / actually agreed with Indy, the prevailing belief externally was that O'Shea would step in. According to Breer, that sentiment is not necessarily shared by the organization, for whatever reason.

Kingsbury is getting NFL HC interview requests, and will likely have multiple NFL OC interview requests as well. He's not taking a QB coach job behind a much less highly regarded OC candidate who has far less experience as a team wide coach.

If Kingsbury comes to NE it is as OC and O'Shea will either be gone or have something type of position/assistant job.

It's hardly scientific, but every year NFL players vote on the top players in the league (top 100), and Rodgers has been in the top 5 just once in the past 6 years (and smart money says he'll finish outside the top 5 again after this year). Granted he finished #1 7 years ago and was #6 3 times since, but he's rarely been considered by his peers the #1 or #2 QB in the league for awhile now.

Compare that to Brady, who has been #1 the last 2 years and hasn't finished lower than #4 in the 8 years since they started voting. Rodgers as the best QB in the league has been a bit of a media creation for some time now.
I’ve always thought the argument for Rodgers was simply physical ability, not, I dunno how to phrase it but being ‘the best’. And he probably is in that regard. The GB front office has never given him a RB and his receivers havent done anything of note once they leave. They have O line problems that last years.

But as far as physical ability, he obviously can move, he’s got arm strength thru Tuesday, outside a couple of his first couple seasons as a starter he’s never hit double digit in picks and has a good completion percentage. Yes he’s gotten added hype over a few Hail Marys, but whine Brady and maybe Brees I’m not sure who one would take and even as sentimental as I get about TB, I’d probably do a straight up.

He’s had a shit head coach, who for some reason he basically kept employed; if JmD ends up there and they do a bit better on personnel he’d me a monster. He’s just not a young chicken himself anymore.

Matt LaFleur is going to be the Packers head coach per Schefter. Where will McD land?
Matt very highly regarded during his stint in Washington.

Josh interviewed for the Packers job, and I’m inclined to believe he is staying put. The stink stinks worse given what Reich has done in Indy. If I were Cleveland, I would not let him anywhere near an early turnaround situation that looks promising but remains delicate.

Yeah I believe he has burned the head coaching bridge for an offseason or two.

He turned down an interview with Cincinnati. It probably hurts him a little, but he's also picking his spots. There are eight openings and six of them are with loser organizations. He can't go back to Denver, he interviewed with Green Bay and didn't get it. We'll see what 2020 brings.

Per sources, Kliff Kingsbury is finalizing a deal to become the Head Coach of the Arizona Cardinals. @nflnetwork @gmfb @NFLonFOX
Still trying to figure out how a guy that just got fired from a mid-tier college program became one of the hottest NFL coaching candidates. I mean I've heard the reasons, but it still seems insane to me. Reminds of Lane Kiffin getting continuously promoted to better jobs despite showing no real talent.

Easy...they’re hoping he can do with Josh Rosen whatever he did with Patrick Mahomes.

He's produced amazing offenses and put 4 QBs not particularly highly thought of coming out of high school in the NFL, 3 as starters and 2 of those would be at the top of just about everyone's young QB list.
College success is far more about recruiting than coaching.

Tannehill graduated before Kingsbury arrived, right? Mahomes and Keenum are really the only two starting QBs he's produced. Mayfield played under him for a year, but he lost the job to Davis Webb and transferred to Oklahoma. Hard to credit much of his development to Kingsbury.

I still say he gets fired in three years or less.

The Kingsbury hire fascinates me. For one, he was hired a month ago as the offensive coordinator of a glamorous but lately very mediocre college team, and now he's an NFL head coach - did he and his agent wildly misread his market, or was he always thinking two moves ahead like this? For two, a lot of smart people have been advocating that NFL teams with bright young QBs should hire a bright young offensive mind as a head coach - not as a coordinator who might shortly run off to coach another team, but as a McVay-like head coach who will call the plays and fully own and wield his system. Kingsbury seems to fit that bill perfectly; he might flame out, but I think he's going to make the Cardinals (and Rosen in particular) a lot more watchable next year. (And for three, he's named "Kliff".)

You know what hire doesn't fascinate me? Dirk Koetter to the Falcons.

So with all of the HC vacancies this year Josh only got asked to interview for two of them (Bengals and Packers), and he turned one of them down, do I have that right? And he lost out on the Packers opportunity to the guy who was the OC of the completely mediocre Titans. Does that mean his window is closed based on what happened in Indy last year, the 49ers before that? I know if I were an owner/GM of another franchise I'd have a hard time offering him a job, he sure looks like a guy who is afraid to commit for whatever reason.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he's staying at least for another year, I just don't quite get what his goal is. If he's received some assurance from the Krafts that he's in line to be BB's successor, then why do any interviews? It is a strange situation.

He's failed once as a head coach, so he probably only gets one more shot. Green Bay is a good organization. His antics last year probably turned off some teams, but not all, since he got interviews this year. So I think it's a combination of:
1) some teams will ding him for reneging on the Colts
2) McDaniels has no interest in taking a head coaching job that's going to be a tirefire. He does want to a head coach, but only in a good situation
3) He has a good gig as OC of the Patriots and he's well-positioned to take over as head coach if Belichick retires, which would be an ideal scenario. He probably hasn't been promised anything, but Belichick, Kraft, Brady, and Caserio obviously all think a lot of him, so he'd be the easy favorite

Probably not, he's allegedly been picky about his interest, and most teams have a discussion with the agent before offering an interview, so he may well have limited his potential to a few teams.

Isn't it as simple as he'd like a good QB (either a HoF QB or one he can develop) and an organization heading in the right direction?
