If we could go back, would we rather keep the LAL pick last year (#10 Mikal Bridges, or anyone taken after him I suppose) or the present rolling-the-dice with Sacramento? I imagine it was Danny who insisted on the recycling into the SAC pick, but looking at the trajectory of that roster, I'm not sure we're better off for it.
I can’t imagine yet another player on this team that would require minutes. I’d take the option on the Kings pick, plus the better trade value it likely has this summer.

So Tankathon has the Celtics at 10, 13, 22, and 23. Lots of trade fodder there for a rebuilding team.

Some notables since 2010

At 10 Paul George, CJ McCollum, Thon Maker, Payton, Winslow, Zack Collins, Austin Rivers
At 13 Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker, Zach LaVine. Kelly Olynyk, Markieff Morris.

At 22 None
At 23 Anunoby, Rodney Hood, Mirotic.

It could be, but I find it doubtful that they are Warriors level 3 point shooters. Sure, Hield and Bjelica are good, but I am doubtful that they are both 44% three point shooters over the whole season (one of them sure, but that would be historic for I can't find a pair of teammates both shooting that good with > 3 attempts per game). Fox is likely not a 38% shooter, nor is Shumpert.
Do historicals really apply when it comes to NBA 3-point shooting? The game has changed so much in the past year or two alone and completely different from even 5-6 year ago.

Grizz cut ties with Parsons and will eat money. I guess the trade value of expiring contracts just isn't what it used to be.

Adrian Wojnarowski‏Verified account @wojespn 39m39 minutes ago
Sources with @ESPN_McMahon: Chandler Parsons will leave the Grizzles indefinitely as management and his agent James Dunleavy work to structure a resolution on Parsons’ future with franchise. Sides agreed on separation Sunday. Parsons has been medically cleared since Dec. 21.

Memphis is still on the hook for $38M owed ($12.8M this year and $25.1M in 19-20) from the $94M contract signed in 2016.

Nets are ahead of both Memphis and Sacramento right now. I know their finish doesn’t matter in particular this year, but it would be an even sweeter cherry on top to have them best those two after also overperforming a bit last season after we made the Kyrie trade.

The Nets are on fire (for their talent level), are 20-21 having won 12 of their last 15 and this is with a ton of self-induced heartbreakers earlier in the year losing 7 games in OT or by 3 points or fewer. Their only losses during this recent stretch was home vs Indiana in their 3rd game in 4 nights, and both ends of a road B2B in Milwaukee and Charlotte...….and somehow they are getting 10 points tonight at the Gahden.

Atkinson is getting his name involved in the COY Award along with Nurse, Doc, Budenholzer, and Malone.

I'm an Atkinson fan, but it always feels icky when "guy who gets overachievers to 43 wins" gets COY. I'm way more impressed by the Kerrs and D'Antonis who can take a really good team to contender level. Nurse, Budenholzer and Malone all stand out in that regard this year.

It's always been my contention that NBA coaches are capable of getting subpar teams to overachieve to that .500 mark as you pointed out while those others named are more a product of their star players. That isn't to take away from the "star management" aspect of NBA coaching which is imo the most important aspect of that championship coach.

Doc's COY win is probably THE classic example, pulling this roster to 41-41 and not even making the playoffs.
Hubie Brown also won a COY with a ,500 team in Atlanta in the 70's with a bunch of misfits too but not nearly to the degree of Doc's Magic team who some had considered a threat to break the Sixers 73-loss record in a season. That truly was the best coaching job I've ever seen in my life at the NBA level. They had something like 5 Undrafted FA in their rotation all getting their first taste of significant NBA roles. It was crazy.

Grizz are in free fall mode. Smoked in the second half against a Pelicans team that has been mostly reeling.

I mean, Jah Okafor was a +12 in 23 minutes for NO.

Pels are beating up the Grizzlies, who are in total freefall. The depth of the west is really catching up to them, and they were overly dependent on a (probably) unsustainable turnover rate. If the Wolves respond well to not-Thibodeau, they're going to have a tough time finishing ahead of anyone but the Suns.

3-13 in last month. Very real chance this pick doesn’t convey this year, which would be better for AD purposes due to the timing of everything.

I'm the guy who watched the Suns 115 - 111 victory at home over the Kings.
Big win for the Suns who were down 72 - 53 at the half. Kings won last night over the Magic but go back to their losing ways.

I watched too. Who knew the Wizards would help the C's out by sending the Suns a guy like Kelly Oubre who willed Phoenix to victory.

Much respect to both of you being willing to watch that game.

I'm not sure I'd be able to resist rooting for Sacramento's patently-obvious superiority in roster talent, ball movement, and overall fun. I'd crack under pressure. You two must have a haterade IV drip.

edit: "What can I say about the Phoenix roster that hasn't already been said about Afghanistan? All bombed-out and depleted..."

Actually, Phoenix is not a boring team. If Oubre is making a leap of sorts, he can help them get towards respectability. And they have Ayton and Warren as well as Melton. Josh Jackson actually was decent tonight too. I mean, they won't have more than 20-something wins, however Koskov appears to be a decent coach and they have some intriguing young parts.

On the other hand, aside from tonight, Sacramento is a scary team. I think they can beat just about anyone in the NBA and not just at home.

This was my game also. The Suns are such a different team with Warren in the lineup plus Oubre playing the Booker role as their wing scorer. Ayton with another solid game too as the Suns bounced back from an embarrassing 2nd quarter when they were out scored by 24. Their second unit is still G-League material.

Didn’t see the game, but looks from the box score that De’Anthony Melton had a nice game after getting the start- 10/4/8 with four steals. I still don’t really understand how he lasted as long as he did in the draft. Obviously he didn’t really get a chance to show to much at USC, but there was no question he’d be a really good defender. If his jumper is there, he’ll be a great fit with Booker. I thought he’d be mid first, not mid second. I was pretty psyched when both him and Time Lord were sitting there when the Cs were on the clock.

Oubre had that huge putback that won the game for them. He’s shooting 37% from three this year which is well above his career average. If he can maintain that, the Suns fleeced Washington.
Dunno about the fleecing. I mean the Suns absolutely came out better in the deal but from the 'Zards perspective, I suspect the only thing that matters to them is the approximately $1.5MM in luxury tax savings since they weren't resigning Oubre after this season anyways.

The 'Zards lost this trade many seasons ago when they decided that it's a good idea to have Wall, Beal, and Porter on max contracts. Or even more recently, if rumours are true that the Wiz turned down a Jimmy Butler (plus) for Porter / Oubre (plus) trade.

TL; DR: I feel bad for WAS fans.

Getting Kanter for a guy who was literally offering nothing can’t hurt.

I don't know, he strikes me as a tank commander type. You gain rebounding at the expense of defense (which they are already bad at), pace, and spacing. I don't think it does anything for them.

It gives them better depth. He has games where he makes an impact. Randolph wasn’t giving them anything, even with Bagley out.

Doubt it makes a material difference in the W/L though and certainly possible that his presence screws up the flow that they’ve got going on so far.

Giving up zero while gaining Kanter is an obvious win if this is all that is involved. He'd be a pretty decent upgrade on the second unit over a 20-year old Giles running around fouling and turning the ball over without providing Kanters offense and activity around the rim.

How many Cs do they intend to stockpile?
Getting an experienced BIG averaging 14.4 PPG and 11 RPG over 26.5 MPG for nothing to play back up Center is a no brainer.

Kanter also shoots FTs at 82% as opposed to WCS 52%. The collective groan from Sacramento's announcers was loud last night when WCS was fouled with the game on the line.

The Knicks, in full tank mode, are making the move to Kornet/Robinson at the 5. Kanter can be whiny and vocal, moving him for nothing makes sense.

Plus Kanter wont go to London with the Knicks next week because he fears Erdogan may send someone after him. Its a bit funny that Kanter may wind up with Turkoglu's old team, especially given the bad blood between the two.

The Kings are so dumb if they do this without getting a pretty good asset coming back with Kanter. Even making them take back McLemore doesn't work since the Knicks would have to waive someone.

They're the only team that currently has cap space. They need to be able to turn that into an asset, probably from a team looking to duck the luxury tax.

If they use it to pick up a guy built for the 1970s NBA they are morons.

I thought it was an even salary swap, I didn't even bother to check. I figured the Knicks didn't want to hear Kanter's griping about minutes/PT/starting while they worked Kornet/Robinson into his role.

Kings paying an extra $7M seems more Sacremento-like

Yeah I probably overreacted. Thanks for setting me straight. The Suns so infrequently do the right thing I think I got a little excited. I do like Oubre’s potential as a three and D guy.

As of this morning, MEM in the #8 draft slot, which would mean (if it holds to the end of the season) that they would keep their pick and it would roll over to 1-6 protection next year.

That would be nice. Things change fast in the world of Tankathon. Few weeks ago, all 4 picks looked likely. Now, quite possible only 2 convey.

I think it is doubtful that MEM pick conveys this year. It is more likely that MEM tanks the rest of the year to keep the pick.

I do, however, think that LAC will make a strong push to make the playoffs, if only to be a better attraction for free agents (read: Kawhi) in the offseason. I'd expect LAC to be active in the trade market over the next month.
