This is fantastic. Fulham are awarded a penalty. Kamara rips the ball out of Mitrovic’s hands, won’t let him take the penalty, insists on taking the penalty - and doesn’t score.

Ranieri, when asked afterward what went through his mind when Kamara missed:

“I want to kill him.”

Charlie Austin miscontrols what would have been a glimmering opportunity, and a minute later City lead 1-0

West Ham is 3rd over the last 6 and 6th over the last 14. Can gain sole possession of 7th with a win against a terrible Burnley side.....

So of course they shit the bed and go down 2 at the half

The “festive period” brutal. Yesterday and today there has been a lot of bad football. These guys are gassed.

I’m happy to see United playing so well. I’m sure I’ll hate it in a few weeks but pogba and rashford et al have ability to play beautiful football.

Race to top 4 is on

This Liverpool team reminds me of 2004. They fixed biggest problems in FA, had found cheap stars and developed some great young players. Great manager and management. They are great right now and with Gomez and Keita coming back....

I expect Jan 3 to be an epic battle. City goes all out. If they lose they put all their focus on champions league as they’d be behind by 10 to a team that has only yielded 6 points through 20 games.

By the way that Salah touch to Mane’ was so good.

Just catching up on the day and...my god, Pogba has clicked it on. It’s remarkable how he is involved in every part of the pitch and still manages to deliver the killshots. It’s a scary sight.

Not to quibble with your post, but it’s unfair to say he clicked it on; he’s now just being utilized properly. It’s no surprise that Paul Pogba is really, really good when he’s allowed to be Paul Pogba and not pigeon-holed into an outdated role.

As a Spurs fan I’ve liked seeing United scuffle through these last several seasons, but I do like to see really good soccer players play really well, and it’s fun to see these guys play with energy and passion once again.

Split the difference. Pogba definitely had some disinterested performances in November & December while being used in a mindnumbingly limited way.

We’ll be fascinating to see what United do this winter - if they thin the ranks at all and/or find defensive reinforcements. And how Solskjaer organizes the side as opponents begin to scout & adjust to the new set up. The talent if there to put up 45+ points during the second half of the season.

(#EVELEI) I know it’s only been 19 minutes, but this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen on a football pitch,” writes Rob Edwards. “I wouldn’t be surprised if both managers are fired before half time and have their coaching badges ripped up by Yorkshire terriers.”

It's 1pm over here, but this match is a bit of a snoozer at the moment. I'm wondering if the best 11 of these two teams is the 7th best team in the league. I'm wondering if i should wipe the salmon juice off my bag.

Jonjoe Kenny is the best player o the pitch for Everton. Tough for Seamus Coleman, who has been the heat and soul for many years but just is not the same since that horrific injury.

I almost missed the Vardy goal. I was nodding off, the fans didn’t react, and the commentary team didn’t really inject any excitement to flag my hungover brain to pay attention.

This is the equivalent of hate-watching a TV show you used to like. Late holiday season matches are dreadful.

Spurs responding well to the late collapse against Wolves--Kane and Eriksen with early goals, up 2-0 in 15th minute on Cardiff.

EDIT: And now Son scores, 3-0, 30th minute.

3-3 between Bournemouth and Watford at the half. Deeney scores twice early, and Bournemouth responds with three straight goals in 8 minutes, only for Watford to score once more to tie the game before the break.

Top 6 squads struggling to score---Chelsea/Southampton and ManU/Newcastle both 0-0 in second half.

30 minutes until kickoff, and Klopp has gone with a very "sturdy" midfield 3, his tried and true of Gini, Henderson, and Milner.

As a Liverpool supporter, I love seeing Eggplant back in the lineup. That assumes he does't pull a calf within the first twenty minutes.

I agree that this choice of midfield is very conservative, and i wonder how this will affect Liverpool in terms of a forward threat, cos it doesn't scream creativity. But, the good thing for Liverpool is that there are options on the bench. I can see Shaqiri making an appearance if Liverpool need a goal with 25 minutes to go. A draw is a huge result for Liverpool IMO.

Agreed. Way too much talk pre-game about expecting LFC to walk away with a win. A draw would be awesome.

Would be nice to possess the ball at least once in the attacking half.

If only the technology existed to make that call correctly.

Edit: Well, shit. I guess that's what I get for watching with the sound off at work.

Liverpool lucky not to have one of the less lenient refs tonight, Dean sends Lovren off for that likely

I'm not sure about all this playing the ball back to the keeper thing that Liverpool are doing. I'm sure it's all been thought out in advance and it does wind time off the clock, but, it often results in the keeper punting it up, Man CIty get the ball and continue to pressure Liverpool.
