Brees was bad again tonight. He has been bad for three weeks and he has the luxury of an elite running game.
All QBs (even the best) have rough stretches.

6 consecutive losses after starting the season 6-2. I didn't even know that was possible without any major injuries to your most important players.

Brees QB rating the last 3 weeks, 71.6, 90.9 and 69.1 (which is probably in the 40's if the two point conversion was counted as an interception)

Brady the last 3 weeks: 102.5, 112.4 and 89.9

Which guy is the one falling off the cliff? Which guy has Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas and which guy has an aging Gronk and a ball dropping Julian Edelman?

Not exactly the same, but Pete The Poodle lost 6 out of 7 after starting 6-2 in 1999.
See, now that's one that I did "block out." I was at every single Pats home game that year too (I attended every home game except one from 1998-2013). The Andy Katzenmoyer timeframe....I had just graduated college. I hated Pete Carroll with the fire of a thousand suns. Haven't hated him much since the Pats/Seahawks Super Bowl. Funny how that happens.

I think he might have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome...
This wins the internet tonight.

Meanwhile, Drew Brees had yet another bad game and yet everyone is riding hard for the guy. QB is the single toughest position in professional sports (even with the rule changes) and the guys like Brees, Rivers, Roethlisberger and a few others who have been consistently good to great at for years shouldn't be penalized for playing poorly for a game or two.

If Brees played for say, the Patriots, I wonder if he would be getting a lot of heat for his performances of late.

Andy Katzemmoyer. Now there’s a classic name from the past. He was an absolute beast at OSU, but not in the NFL. I was very disappointed as a Pats fan.
My brother got a Bruschi jersey for Christmas that year and exchanged it for Katzenmoyer because he thought he would have the longer and better career. Whoops.

Biggest play of the game for the Saints in the game and they have one of the best, and most difficult to tackle, running backs in football and they pitch it to TommyLee Jones Lewis, who fumbles out of the end zone. It was Lewis' first carry of the year.

Sometimes coaches are just too frickin' clever and it blows up in their face. Give the ball to the guy who is extremely difficult to tackle and who is actually a running back, what do you say Champ?

Saints were lucky to win there and they won because Cam Newton has a broken arm.

Much like the game earlier in the week, and I can't recall which one, maybe on Saturday, but the team had a big 3rd and 1 and lined up in the wildcat and had a running back run the pullback option play where you stick the ball in the other guy's gut and pull it out at the last minute. Of course it led to a fumble.

I am pretty much convinced that every OC is either going to be "too clever" from time-to-time or "too conservative." You press the right buttons at the right time - like McDaniels in the 2014 divisional game vs the Ravens - you look like genius. You try it and it doesn't work out, you look like a moron. But I'd rather that at the end of the day, I think, than a guy who doesn't take enough chances.

Pretty sure it was the Bears with Cohen and Howard.

Saints have been doing stupid shit all season and get away with it because they have all world skill position players who cover up for the coaching blunders.
NE Game threads would be 2x as long if Belichick used Taysom Hill like Payton does. Hill is a poor man's Tim Tebow yet gets critical touches every game.

I agree that you want an offense who mixes it up. But in the biggest play of the game, they ran a gadget sweep with a guy who literally hasn't had a carry yet this season. While not giving the ball to one of the best RBs in the game, a guy who earlier in the game ran for huge first downs, despite not having too many holes.

You've got Alvin Kamara. You don't give the ball to a guy who hasn't had a running play all year. Ever.

And in one of the biggest plays of the Super Bowl last year, the Eagles had their second-string TE throw a pass to the quarterback, even though the Pats had barely mustered any defense all game. You live with the good and the bad on these kind of plays.

Or perhaps when a team has second down a yard or so from the end zone with one of the most dominating running backs in the game available, 25 seconds and one time out remaining, and decides to throw a quick slant instead? For the Super Bowl?

At least that wasn't Russell Wilson's first pass of the season.

The fact that every team seems beatable gives me hope for the playoffs. More hope than watching the Pats play.
I can't recall the last year I'd prob put even odds on NE advancing to the SB and being eliminated in first round. So much variance both from NE and the NFL this year.

This is fair. The winner of the Super Bowl this year will get hot at the right time, and get some breaks at the right time. Heck, the Eagles should have lost to Atlanta last year, if Atlanta could design even a moderately decent red zone play. But Atlanta couldn't

All of a sudden, they are sacking Brady and causing him to fumble a month later, to hoist the trophy. The line is very, very thin. This isn't the NBA. Almost every team that makes the playoffs has a chance.
