Yea something is weird when
1. You have to get to portland at 4am
2. You nearly miss your flight out of portland

For those who havent experienced it ......Logan its not.

I have had 730 flights that I have shown up at 6:50 and been sitting waiting for 15 mins.

I had the opposite reaction. I can understand how someone misses a 4 am flight - particularly after playing a game the night before, but - unless he fell asleep in a lounge or something like that - missing the connecting flight does take some, well, effort.

Not to overanalyze, but what if he didn't have that long to catch the connecting flight? Especially if he's never been to the airport and had no idea where to go.

I actually almost missed a flight out of Portland because the lines for security get crazy for the early morning flights. You can ask my wife what she thought about us showing up 1.5 hours prior to boarding and barely making the flight.

Really??
Ok I stand corrected. Its not like I fly alot ( couple times a year) but Never have seen portland even remotely what I would consider busy. But I usually go petty early (which is the case in your and RDubs flight) or quite late.

Several posts about someone who did not miss either of two flights is by definition overanalysis.

While the chase down block reigns supreme imho, the "block a floater from 8 feet away" block is pretty solid:

How would G-League teams fare playing against Sweet 16-level college teams? Would it be more like College World Series teams playing a AA or AAA baseball team (utterly demolished), or more like playing A-ball (not favored but competitive)?

They would get demolished. A G league team would be like combining the talent of a few sweet 16 teams together while getting rid of a lot of the crap.

I'm not sure if I agree with this. The best player on the floor, possibly two best players, could very well be on that Sweet-16 team. The G-League would have much greater depth and maturity however I feel it really depends on how much high end talent that college team has to offset what they lose in spots 3-8.

We are talking about a minor league team with many of the next tier NBA players not even with them (choosing to play over$eas instead) and not say the Phoenix Suns who would destroy an average Sweet-16 team. Duke, for example, would crush a G-League team as it would have far and away the 3 best players on the floor. Other teams I feel would mostly be competitive.

Right, the mitigating factor is that most Sweet 16 teams have future NBA talent, some of them lottery talent, on the roster - but it's more raw and undeveloped. And almost by definition, G-League teams don't, unless they're carrying someone doing a rehab stint. But there's a men-versus-boys argument to it too. We can all project an Ayton or Bagley reaching the height of their powers, but before they do, wouldn't experienced pros (even at a lower tier) with 10 years of weight training and practice, have a huge edge? Aren't FT%s alone strong evidence of the impact this has? I'm really not sure.

This is really what it boils down to when talking about a collegiate vs NBA team or those silly arguments Alabama fans were making about beating the Browns a couple years ago. If that game took place the Browns would have won by 4-5 TD's but in the voice of Allen Iverson...…..we're talking about G-League here. They will certainly have depth advantage at the 3-8 but many of those 3-5 guys on a sweet sixteen team are G-League caliber players with only a couple years physical maturity advantage which is in part lessened by the G-League players really not being very good. It would really be team and matchup dependent but interesting nonetheless.

Here are last year's Sweet 16. How many of these teams could beat the Maine team that the Cs ran out there last night?

Wisconsin, Florida, Baylor, South Carolina

Kansas, Purdue, Oregon, Michigan

North Carolina, Butler, UCLA, Kentucky

Gonzaga, West Virginia, Xavier, Arizona

Probably won't be too long before a few of the top recruits skip college all together and go the G league route. Or just skip college and sit out a year a la Bazley.

Wish they could give him more run on the Celtics. His energy is awesome and they could use some of his intensity right now.
He just isn't reliable right now. The game last week in Denver he played 2 minutes and picked up 3 fouls. While it doesn't sound like much you are either giving the opponent 6 FT's or putting them in the bonus to where they will get their FT later in the quarter. Patience.

I wouldn’t bet on them, but Arizona and Kentucky would have the talent to give them a run on any given night. Ayton, Gilgeous-Alexander and Knox would easily be among the best players on the court, and guys like Trier, Diallo, Alkins, Vanderbilt, Washington and Ristic could all hold their own.

Arizona would have by far the two best players on the floor in Ayton and Trier. Kentucky would have by far the two best players on the floor in Knox and Gilgeous-Alexander. Kansas started 3 NBA players and 2 G-League level players. I don't know what the number is but I'm certain it is greater than zero. You are likely no worse than 2-1 with these three right here with Arizona and Kansas being favorites imo.

not that it matters to the overall point, but this is the 2017 Sweet 16, not the 2018 team.

For all the talk about Arizona below, with Ayton and Trier - they lost in the first round of the tournament to Buffalo. Kentucky, for all their talent, lost in the Sweet 16 to a very unremarkable Kansas St. team.

FWIW, I think a pro team of older guys would regularly beat the Arizona and Kentucky's of college basketball.

In fairness, he was sent in to "Hack-a", and he did. Although on the last one, he thought he was being told to fuld from the bench, but he wasn't. Doesn't change your point.

If he ends up with a legit NBA career, that is going to be one of the all-time nicknames.
I literally find myself hoping he gets into games so that I can say "Time Lord" in my head. It really fits, for a reason that's hard to put my finger on. I think it's the photos of him doing impossible things vertically: it feels like he bends time and space.

Someone mentioned “The Big Sleep” in the game thread last night. A noir reference feels better to me but if he has a good enough career I’m confident that, like Shaq, he can handle multiple nicknames.

It wasn't just the blocks or the 'oop dunks, though those were fun. It was how many shots he affected. After the first couple of plays, Davis was shooting with noticeably more hesitation away from the basket, and several other players passed up shots they probably could have taken. He really impacted the midrange game out there tonight, not just in the paint.

This is actually an interesting topic. Let’s say you have the ability to land a 2019 draft pick for Time Lord. How high does it need to be before you consider giving him up? Top 20? Top 15? Top 10? Top 5?

Obviously, we don’t need more 2019 picks but curious as to where people value him. May need to answer this after 4 hours.

He was an obvious top-10 pick prior to his "issues." The issues seem to no longer exist. Probably top-5.

Yes. The jump shot that AD took right after the first block was short because AD put more arc on his shot.

It's hard to believe the league allowed DA to draft the Big Sleep. He is going to prolong the window for a couple of years.

Can't wait until he blocks KD's shot . . . .

Here
Get this kid some run, let him show off his Kevin Garnett defense, then package him with a rejuvenated Jaylen and some picks for Brow. I will miss him, but ultimately get over it. I will wish him copious amounts of luck.

That trade won't happen until next summer at the earliest. Instead, your binky has rightfully earned himself more run after tonight. He was impressive, period.
