One of the less heralded heists pulled off by Harry Sinden was trading a soon to be 32 year old Ken Hodge to the NY Rangers after the 1975-76 season in exchange for a promising 22 year old winger named Rick Middleton. I don't know why the last place Rangers would make that trade - it's not like the Islanders fans had started their "1940" taunts then. Tonight and 402 goals for the Bruins later, Nifty gets his number 16 retired.

So let's start a new winning streak. Let's go!

Some pre-game notes and updates.

After Jaroslav Halak played on Monday night in Toronto, Tuukka Rask returns following a strong outing in Montreal with the start in net on Thursday night.

Brandon Carlo is inching closer to a return, which might happen on Saturday night against Detroit. The blueliner skated with the team and was a full participant in Thursday’s morning skate, and while he wasn’t ready to go for the contest against the Islanders, Cassidy was pleased with his progress.

Charlie McAvoy participated in practice as well on Thursday morning, but donned a red sweater and still isn’t taking contact.

JFK is a healthy scratch. Kuraly returns. Kampfer going in for Miller. Donato in too, Bjork was sent down.

Marchand - Cave - Pastrnak
Heinen - Krejci - DeBrusk
Donato - Nordstrom - Acciari
Wagner - Kuraly - Backes

Krug - Clifton
Moore - Kampfer
Lauzon - Grzelyck

Rask

I feel like Clifton is doing well because every time the question of "what is the smart play you'd expect a competent player to make right now" he answers correctly 99% of the time. He's taking no risks, making high-percentage passes, and is in position really well. "Earning minutes" is a really good qualifier to have as a rookie.

And I can see why they didn’t like Barzal at the draft. He’s literally all skate fast around the perimeter until something opens up and that usually doesn’t play at this level, so I really can’t blame them for passing on him, but man he would solve a lot of problems on this team right now.

At this point:
A) Someone made the wrong wish on a cursed monkey paw
B) The Universe hates the Bruins
C) This is the bad timeline.

D) they have an insane amount of organizational depth to be able to be competitive in all of these games with this many injuries.

I’d put Marchand and Pastrnak our together. Kind of insane that we are 1:30 into OT and Pasta hasn’t stepped on the ice.

The Bruins scored 22 points in their first five games this season, including being shut-out in the opener. In their next 20 games, they have scored 46 points.
